2019 WINTER/SPRING PROGRAMS
Dear Clarence Residents:
We are proud to present you with our annual Youth Bureau and
Recreation Department Brochure. There are a variety of
activities, programs and events you won’t want to miss! The
brochure is organized by month, January-May. Each entry
includes dates, times, location, cost, description and registration
deadline. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to
call us at 407-2162.

                     General Information

             NEW: ONLINE REGISTRATION
       Registering and paying for Youth Bureau and Recreation
       Department programs is now easy, convenient and time-
       saving! Credit card or bank account payments are
       accepted.
       Go to: https://parksrec.egov.basgov.com/clarence

      Registrations should all be done on-line. If you need assistance
       with the process, you can call or visit the Youth Bureau and we
       will assist you.

      Class sizes are limited. There will be a waiting list generated
       automatically and you will be notified via email from the
       system.

      For safety reasons, personnel from the Town of Clarence are
       not responsible for children dropped off early, picked up late
       or unattended when their classes are not in session.

      You must provide your own transportation unless otherwise
       noted.

JANUARY

WINTERFEST 2019
The annual Town of Clarence Winterfest is a day of outdoor
and indoor winter fun! This year’s theme is Buffalo Sports
Teams! Outdoor activities include sledding, ice skating
(bring your own sled and skates), tractor-drawn hayrides,
bonfire, sled-dog demonstrations, E.C. Library Bookmobile,
and pony rides! Indoor activities include displays by
Clarence service clubs, crafts, make your own slime,
entertainment, facepainting, food and much more!
(Outdoor activities are weather dependent). Entertainment
will include Charlie and Checkers’ new interactive show,
Caricatures by Murray Mann, Clarence H.S. Guitar Club, “It’s
Magic of Course”, and Mr. No the Balloon Guy. Food
including hot dogs, tacos in a bag, coffee, tea, donuts,
beverages, popcorn and hot chocolate will be available for a
small cost. See Entertainment Schedule below.

FEBRUARY

BABYSITTER TRAINING COURSE
Taking care of young children is an important responsibility! This
course can help you learn what you need to know to be the best
and most responsible babysitter you can be. Participants will learn
about the business of babysitting, how to care for infants and
toddlers and several first aid skills. Each student receives a
babysitter manual to take home. A certificate of completion from
the Red Cross will be provided after conclusion of the class. Please
bring a lunch and drink.

SAFETY FIRST FOR CHILDREN – HOME ALONE SAFETY
COURSE
This course is designed for children ages 6-14. The course will
cover home alone principles and safety precautions such as:
answering the door and phone safely, 911 calls, house safety, fire
safety, internet safety, and much more! Students will be fully
engaged during the class through role playing and safety first
jeopardy. Students will receive a certificate of completion and a
bag of safety resources. If taken with Basic First Aid, a discounted
rate is given.

FEBRUARY
BASIC FIRST AID FOR CHILDREN
This course is designed for children ages 6-14. The course will
cover basic first aid skills including: scene safety, use of personal
protective equipment, treatment of burns, cuts, sprains,
breathing emergencies, treatment of bee stings and insect bites
and more! Students will receive a certificate of completion and a
compact first aid kit. If taken with Home Alone Safety Course, a
discounted rate is given.

FAST N’ FURIOUS: LEGO GRAND PRIX
Have a need for speed or destruction? We will be using Legos to
build a car onto a radio controlled base. We will be racing them
on a course in the Clarence Library. We will also have our own
version of battle bots with the cars after the races. Who will be
the last one driving? Partnership with the Clarence Public
Library.

FEBRUARY

SPECTACULAR SCIENCE
Do you like to figure out how things work? Channel your inner
scientist with this fun-filled event. You will learn about states of
matter by experimenting with making clouds, bath bombs,
elephant toothpaste and more! We will also be experimenting
with dry ice!

SKY ZONE
Escape the cabin fever and join us for a high flying outing at Sky
Zone! Jumpers get full access to all Sky Zone activities, including
the Main Court , the Warrior Course, Free Climb Wall, Sky Joust,
the Foam Zone (freestyle jumping into foam), Ultimate Dodgeball,
SkySlam, and more! Transportation will be provided from the
Clarence Youth Bureau.
Sky Zone liability waiver and forms are required for each
jumper (see online registration website for waivers).

MARCH

PAINT LIKE PICASSO
We will be channeling your child’s inner artist during this class. Some
of Pablo’s masterpieces included portraits and cubism. With some of
his inspirational pieces on display, children will be painting a self-
portrait using cubism.

EPIC BIRTHDAY PARTY
Let’s celebrate everyone’s birthday with a party! We will have use of
EPIC Center for 2 hours of fun. Are you ready and raring to zip past the
checkered flag? You’re in luck! Each child will get to take laps in a go-
kart around the newly designed oval track. We will spend time playing
games like soccer, kickball, and dodge ball. Volleyball, Corn Hole, Kan-
Jam, Ping-Pong, and Foosball are also available. There is an arcade for
an additional cost.

MARCH
KIDDING AROUND YOGA – GIRL SCOUTS WEEK CLASS
Come celebrate Girl Scout week…Kidding Around Yoga style! Have fun
while learning important life skills that promote well-being. This class
will include yoga poses, playful breathing exercises, storytelling,
partner poses, music and a craft too! We will end the class with a guided
relaxation activity. A KAY fun patch is included. Parents are welcome
to stay or drop off and pick up. Bring a yoga mat if you have one. Some
extra mats will be available.
This class is for Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY HANGOUT
Come learn about and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us! We’ll be
learning the history behind the holiday, making lucky green pancakes
and putting together some festive crafts. Shamrock shakes will be
served. Who knows – you might just find your own pot of gold!

BEACH BLAST
Tired of the cold and snow? Dreaming about the dog days of summer?
Join us for a day in paradise! We will be singing and dancing to some
favorite beach tunes! Other activities will consist of crafts and fun team
building games. So come help melt the snow away and enter a tropical
beach! Don’t dress too warmly -- there’s a heat wave heading this way!

APRIL
LEGO CHALLENGE
Compete against others in a Lego-building challenge. Children will be
given a simple set of guidelines. Imagination and creative thinking will
be critical in this battle to end up with the tallest, widest, and strongest
creation. Partnership with the Clarence Public Library.

GLITTER GALORE
Everyone can use a little sparkle in their day! Join us at the Youth
Bureau and create some glitzy, glamorous crafts! We will be making
glitter slime, glitter light switch plates, glitter magnets and other fun
sparkly creations!

BONKERS FOR BOWLING
The Youth Bureau is going bowling! Meet us at Clarence Bowling
Academy for an afternoon of strikes and spares! Price includes bowling,
shoes, pizza, and drinks.

STEM SERIES: SELF-PROPELLED AUTOMOBILES
Keep your child’s mind sharp over the spring break by learning and
having fun! We will be using science, technology, engineering and math
(STEM) to build some amazing self-propelled automobiles! The
experience will conclude with a competition to declare which model
works the best.

SPRING CRAFT TIME
They say that April showers bring May flowers -- join us at the Youth
Bureau to find out if that’s true! We will learn a reverse rain dance, and
make some spring-themed crafts! What a perfect way to welcome the
warmer weather. It’s sure to be lots of fun!

WOOD SHOP
Kick off spring recess by building a beautiful bird house that is sure to
bring some wild life into the back yard. The Clarence Senior Staff wood
shop is helping us in preparing the supplies to be assembled right at the
Clarence Youth Bureau. Children will be assembling bird houses with
basic hand tools. They will also be painting springtime wood decorations
to take home!

MAY

CINCO DE MAYO HANGOUT
Come learn about and celebrate Cinco de Mayo with us! We’ll be learning
the history behind the day, making homemade maracas, learning some
Spanish, and cracking open a piñata to end the day! Cinco De Mayo
themed snacks and drinks will be served.
Date: Friday, May 3rd (Half Day K-5)
Time: 1:30 PM-3:00 PM

ROCK CLIMBING
Have you ever wanted to try rock climbing? The Niagara Climbing
Center is a fun indoor climbing center that has over 30 walls to meet the
level of any age or experience level. Participants will go through a safety
lesson and will learn how the equipment works. Sneakers must be worn.
Transportation will be provided from the Clarence Youth Bureau.
Must complete release forms (see online registration website for
forms). Bring a snack and a drink (water is recommended).

RECREATION DEPARTMENT PROGRAMS

ADULT CO-ED VOLLEYBALL
This program provides an opportunity for adults to play co-ed
volleyball throughout the year. Stop in and play anytime. If
Clarence schools are closed due to inclement weather or any other
reason, volleyball is cancelled for that night. Sneakers must be
worn. Please call Chip Trapper, Director at 407-2162, ext. 2 or
