The Committee has supported the publishing of a book that showcases
the 6 decades of TSOA. The aim is the book be completed and launched
at the 60th Anniversary function being held at Ballarat in April 2020.

that may be significant. This is a milestone event for TSOA and it would
be a shame to not document it.

Calling all TR7/8 DHC Owners
There is a chance (again) that TSOA could
be involved in the Australian Grand Prix in
Melbourne next March by providing cars
for the Drivers’ Parade. In order to satisfy the
conditions we need to establish that we can
provide a sufficient number of cars, in this
case TR7/8 convertibles. A Register of cars
was set up some years ago for this purpose so
now we need to update the list. If you have
such a Triumph and would be prepared to
participate, would you please contact us with
your details as soon as possible.

opening doors & bonnet. Detail of
the interior & engine bay is very
good. The only draw-back is they
do take up room, and the price is
quite high at over $250. The 1:43
scale Vanguards offer good value
for money starting from around $50
on Ebay & hobby stores.
Dinky models are available from
around $50, in white, green and
red. Above: The James Bond
‘Diamonds Are Forever’ yellow
Stag. Melbourne’s best model car
shop is, ‘Model Cars of the World’ in
Burwood. Others include ‘Hearn’s
Hobbies’ in Flinders Street, ’Metro
Hobbies’ in Box Hill, ‘Modelmania’
in the CBD & obviously EBay
worldwide.
Vanguards make an excellent
Stag in a variety of colours – Java
Green, Russet Brown, Damson Red,
Mimosa Yellow, Tahiti Blue, Magenta
& several with the hardtop fitted.
Oxford also produce a tiny Stag
model at 1:76, which is OO gauge
for model railways - available in
several colours for around $15 each.
Always remember to keep the
original box packaging as it adds
value at resale. There also a number
of 1:43 die-cast metal kits for sale,
if you have patience & modelling
skills – the advantage being you
choose the colour.

Annual Ballarat Springfest Run
TSOA members gathered at Ballan,
75 kms. out of Melbourne, on a
fine Sunday morning for a day’s
outing and what was the third year
in a row attending the Ballarat
Springfest event.

Quite a few tucked into a hearty
breakfast – several of our more
senior members were game enough
to tackle the big breakfast with
some gusto – while others made
do with just a coffee hit. At 10am
we set off for a short, leisurely drive
through the townships of Gordon,
Wallace and Bungaree, then
along the full length of Ballarat’s
iconic Sturt Street to arrive at Lake
Wendouree where we were joined
by several other club members
which brought the number up
to 13 cars and 23 participants, an
excellent turnout. A shady spot to
park was found under some Cyprus
trees and a couple of club banners,
that Keith had brought along,
were put up. So, TSOA was well
represented and quite a few people
stopped by throughout the day to But, there was also plenty to see oddities that were participating in

Jack Atkinsons Flash racing car restored & for sale $29,999

This MK1 Triumph Spitfire has a story and history. THE RESTORATION CAN BE VIEWED ON INSTAGRAM
#spitfirerebirth This Spitfire was sold new in Australia in 1963. To the best of my knowledge It has had only 4 owners in it's
life, definitely only 3 since 1968. I bought it in 1968 & in 1970 took it off the road as a race car. I sold the race car in 1973 to a
mate who raced it until he sold it in 1979 to a fellow Triumph Club member in Melbourne who continued with the car as a
club/race car. The car was retired around 1986 to begin a major rebuild however he died in 2003 before completing it and it was
re-purchased by my mate(3rd owner) and shipped back to Sydney for me to carry out a full body off, nut & bolt restoration at
my workshop in Silverwater. In 2012 my mate decided he could no longer fund the restoration and had to sell the car so I
purchased it and carried on with the restoration. As shown in the photos the body was removed & the chassis Soda Blasted,
spray painted with POR 15. The body was stripped & resprayed with 2pack enamel. Due to the cars lifestyle it was rarely
exposed to bad weather so rust was not an issue as with other Triumphs. The engine is a MK3 1300cc to as raced specifications
which include Mahle GT6 pistons, lightened, balanced, Factory competition ground camshaft, stage 3 cylinder head with double
valve springs, extractors, 40mm DCOE weber carburetors electric fuel pump & oil cooler. The gearbox is a Factory SAH close
ratio & H D clutch. The front suspension has Eibach lowered & stiffened coil springs over Spax externally adjustable shock
absorbers, adjustable top wishbones, large diameter roll bar, larger GT6 drilled discs & GT6 callipers. Rear has race modified
transverse leaf spring & factory style camber compensator bar, Spax externally adjustable shock absorbers & larger GT6 drum
brakes. 6inch wide steel wheels with Nankang AR-1 semi-slick tyres. The interior has GT6 dash with extra instrumentation,
black GT6 seats, 13inch moto-litre steering wheel, 4 point race harness, full width roll bar & black carpet. It has a full width
perspex aero screen however the original windscreen & glass is supplied as well as soft top in good condition. I have restored
this car with a club/race car in mind but it is very drivable on the road. In the 1970s it competed in the NSW Hillclimb
Championship & raced at Warwick Farm, Amaroo, Oran Park & in Victoria Philip Island, Calder, Winton & Lakeland as well
as numerous hillclimbs and sprints in NSW, Victoria, SA, WA & Qld. Included are many spares including a complete GT6
gearbox, overdrive unit, period photos & original CAMS Log Books and workshop manual. The Historic Registration is NOT
transferable but happy to assist in re-registration. Speedo reading is 96867 miles

                                                      TR4 A
I owned a TR4 in the 70s. While cleaning out the garage I came across some
of the body badges. A TR4 bonnet shield, boot lid TR4 & the letters TIUMPH +
another P & I. (The R is missing, I think that is why I took the rest off a long time
ago. Would any member of the association be interested in acquiring them?
I think I also have a crankshaft bolt with the crankhandle attachment on it
(though this could have been from a Fergie tractor I bought subsequently)
Also curious to know if my old TR is still around. Rego number when sold was
                                                      KXZ 334.
Loved the car except for it’s handling of bumps mid corner.
