Created by at Hills of Africa Travel 13Ishasha Wilderness Camp is situated within the Southern Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park on the Ntungwe river, an idyllic retreat for people who truly enjoy the wilderness. This exclusive camp offers superb quality accommodation and services in this unspoiled remote area. The area is famous for its tree climbing lions, which can sometimes be spotted resting in the branches of the large fig trees nearby. Being within the park the wildlife is free to also pass through the camp and elephants can be seen bathing in the river, buffalo enjoy grazing and resident troops of Black-and-White Colobus and vervet monkeys are frequently viewed. Set next to the Ntungwe River, each of the camp’s ten spacious canvas tented rooms has a private verandah overlooking the river. Comfortably furnished with large mosquito-netted beds, all rooms are en suite with hot ‘bush’ showers, running water for hand-basins and a flushing ‘eco-friendly’ toilet. The thatched central lounge and dining area provide a comfortable setting for meals and relaxation, although we often serve meals ‘al fresco’ next to the river. In the evening, the outdoor fireplace is the perfect place for guests to relax with sundowners and share their day’s experiences. Meals are freshly prepared with many local ingredients, offering a balance of international and locally flavored cuisine. Game Drive - Queen Elizabeth National Park PM Afternoon game drive. The ‘super stars’ of the area are the tree climbing lions that can regularly be seen snoozing on a limb on one of the fig trees. Tree-climbing lions are rare there are actually only two populations in the world one is found here in Ishasha, the other in Lake Manyara, Tanzania. It is believed that these lions climb trees as a way to protect themselves from the biting tsetse flies; others believe the lions climb the tree to escape the stifling heat on the ground and catch a cool breeze. Also unique to Ishahas’s lions their manes are black. You will return to the lodge for dinner. Day 12 Uganda - Game Drive with Transfer To Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Buhoma Lodge This morning at 7:00am, you will enjoy a morning game drive and start for Bwindi, arriving midmorning. If time permits along the way, you may inspect Bwindi Lodge. Then proceed to Buhoma lodge arriving in time for lunch. Created by at Hills of Africa Travel 15Helpful Tip: In order to get the closest and best gorilla family, please be on time for pickup in the morning at 7:00am. The early bird gets the worm - we want you to see the gorillas, but also we want the experience to be amazing. Today is a trip of a lifetime - Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Finding the gorillas can take up to 6 hours of trekking, and you have one hour with the gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park lies in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the Rift Valley. Its mist-covered hillsides are blanketed by one of Uganda's oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously, this "impenetrable forest" also protects an estimated 320 mountain gorillas - roughly half of the world's population, including several habituated groups, which can be tracked. Bwindi National park has 9 habituated gorilla families that are tracked by tourists. Seven of them are the Buhoma Vicinity while two are in the southern part of Bwindi known as Mkuringo and Nshongi families of Bwindi Gorillas. Bwindi Gorilla National park not only supports gorillas but also a tremendous biodiversity of flora and fauna. It is a prime destination for bird lovers. When most of Africa's rain forests disappeared during the arid conditions of the ice age, Bwindi is one of the few refugia that survived. The flora and fauna in this tropical rain forest include; 310 speccies of butterflies, 51 reptiles, 200 trees, 88 moths, and unique 120 types of mammals that also include 10 primates species. The Uganda primates species in this park include: Chimpanzees, L'Hoest Monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, retailed and blue monkeys, baboons and the legendary endangered mountain gorillas. Uganda - Bwindi - Ride 4 A Woman Time permitting, you will visit a women's project (Ride 4 A Woman). It’s a charitable organization set up to support women who are victims of poverty, HIV epidemic and domestic violence. Your visit indirectly supports the project work and while here, you may participate in basketry, weaving, making local dishes and have the best opportunity for craft shopping. Day 14 Gorilla Trekking - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest - Day Two We have booked you TWO days of gorilla tracking. Your guide will meet you in the morning, we are excited for you to spend more time with these gentle giants. I can honestly say, this experience is life-changing. Usually, the Males are two times the size of the females, they may grow to 6 ft tall and even weigh 350 - 500 pounds. These are strong, with long arms and muscular. The males are referred to as the Silverback because as they mature the hair on their back turns somewhat silver, hence the name Silverbacks. The strength of the males is ten times stronger compared to the strongest boxer, even taking steroids. The arms of Silverbacks can stretch to 7 feet.
