Organizer: German-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the German Embassy
in Oslo
German and Norwegian energy markets are closely inter-linked, and the effort to create a European
internal energy market will contribute to a further deepening of this relationship. How can Norway
and Germany benefit from a deepening of ties in the energy sector? And which technologies will
prosper in an energy market in continuous transformation? The German-Norwegian Energy Dialogue
is an arena for dialogue on the most important developments within the German-Norwegian energy
cooperation. In cooperation with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Oslo, we invite
industry, politicians and organizations from both countries to discuss the potential for intensified
bilateral energy cooperation, as well as to share ideas and knowledge on market and technology
developments.
This year’s energy dialogue discusses how Norway and Germany can meet their climate commitments
by improving bilateral energy cooperation in politics, business and research. Which framework
conditions, initiatives and technologies will be needed to reach the EU’s target of net-zero emissions
by 2050? And where do we need to be in 2030 in order to get there? Energy experts from both
countries will present opinions and visions for structural change in the European energy sector in
general and in the electricity market, specifically. If Europe is serious about its net-zero pledge, greater
efforts are needed to decarbonize energy intensive industries. Which role could and should both green
and blue hydrogen play in these efforts?
Offshore wind stakeholders are invited to discuss how Norway and Germany can cooperate on
technology development and innovation, with an aim to target areas of mutual interest and to
establish bilateral partnerships on innovation projects.

12.30 German-Norwegian Energy Cooperation: Where are we and where should we go?
A milestone has been reached when the NordLink subsea cable comes into operation in
December 2020, as the German and Norwegian electricity markets will be connected for the
first time. Meanwhile, Germany’s coal phase-out and structural transformation brings about
new challenges that can only be solved with continued and deepened European cooperation.
Which visions should we have for further bilateral energy cooperation in the coming
decennium?

In order to reach the EU’s climate targets for 2030, energy systems must go through a profound
transformation. How do we solve the challenges related to building up renewables capacity in
both countries and shutting down coal facilities in Germany? How do we avoid adverse effects
for the end-consumer?

European infrastructure for the transport, usage and storage of hydrogen and CO2?
