Use Case:
High performance team.
I need to develop an existing “team” into a high-
    performance team
Due to increased complexity, individuals nominally described as part of a team are seeking to
collaborate more on decisions - moving from a group of capable individuals, to a decision-
making team that’s more than the sum of the parts.

    • How should we tackle different types of decisions?
    • Who should (and should not) be included in the decision-making process?
    • How do we develop our culture to ensure we benefit from different perspectives?

“I was really pleased at how the [DOT Scorecard®] session went. During the planning
meeting on the following day, it was obvious to me that the group interacted in a
    'freer' manner"

"After your comments about the best way to utilize the diverse board we have, it
allowed a wider range of input.
                                                                                               “
Christine Lake, Chair (Retired), Royal NZ Plunket Trust

Use Case:
Setting up a team for success.
I have a newly established team that I need to
bring together in the right way to support their
success
The formation of a new team brings both risks and opportunities. Success is supported
by building a mutual understanding of the different contribution each team member
brings. Additionally, you need to consider not just what is being worked on but how the
team will work together.

• Consider dimensions of difference that add value and go beyond professional
         background
• Develop the right team culture to benefit from different perspectives

“
The DOT Scorecard is a valuable opportunity for Executive team development,
increasing awareness of the value of diversity of thought and not just physical
appearance and how we can use diversity to enhance our problem solving for complex
problems.”

                                                                                       “
“Most importantly though, we got to check in on how we realise our diversity, as this is
where the true value of diversity lies.

Use Case:
Valuing difference.
I am seeking to embed valuing diversity into my
company culture
Diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives are typically focused on correcting imbalances
related to the more visible dimensions of diversity. Many individuals are jaded by these, or
even actively resistant to them.

• Valuing difference is at the core of the DOT Scorecard® system, therefore
         underpinning existing diversity initiatives
• A diversity of thought approach is readily accepted as it doesn’t pigeon-hole anyone
         based on skin-deep characteristics
• DOT Scorecard® can be used before, during or after traditional diversity initiatives.

“
Participating in the DOT Scorecard® provided us with the opportunity to open our
minds to the different attributes of each team member and what they can bring to
the team."

"It gave us an appreciation of how diversity of thinking maybe more important to
well-functioning teams and quality of decision making, than diversity in the “
traditional sense.

Use Case:
Recruitment.
I need to recruit new members for a team capable
of addressing complexity
Skills, knowledge and work experience are essential recruitment criteria. However, its easy to
inadvertently select those who have similar underlying thinking to the existing team and
therefore do not expand the team's ability to tackle complexity.

• Avoid setting your team up for “groupthink”
• Include a further quantitative, data-driven component into your recruitment process

The DOT Scorecard® has become a standard part of the recruitment process for teams and
boards in private, government, and corporate organisations. Prospective candidates are
evaluated at the shortlisting stage.

Users report:

“
DOT Scorecard® gave us confidence that we were appointing someone who doesn’t
just look different but thinks differently too

“Really useful to have independent data showing that we were too like-minded and
needed to broaden our perspectives. The quality of discussion after recruiting new “
members has definitely been elevated

                        “
I experienced the value of diversity of thought first-hand when serving on a
governance board faced with an opportunity to embark on a major project... \
The experience forever changed my appreciation of the value of diverse
viewpoints. It ignited my interest in quantifying diversity of thought and in
understanding practices that allow decision-making groups to benefit from
                        diverse thinking.

When facing complexity, we can harness the power of people who think
differently to improve both the process and the final decision.
                                                                                                 “
