Andrei is a well-known artist photographer who lives alone
with his Labrador dog, Charley, in his own house with a swim-

national exhibition, he meets a charming young woman Marina
who turns out to be deaf-and-dumb. Andrei brings Marina to
his place, takes her photos and keeps her at his place for the
night. The same repeats on the second day. Neither does he let
her go away on the third day. Finally, the girl understands that
she is a prisoner and tries to escape.
The story that started as a prelude to a peculiar life story
gradually turns into a crazy nightmare.
Marina becomes incredibly inventive, making ever new at-

tags her. The intricate psychological duel of these two uncommon

synopsis
From Cannes and Telluride nominee Ewa Banaszkiewicz and Mateusz
Dymek comes a fiction film that takes the form of a first-time filmmaker’s
documentary.
My Friend The Polish Girl borrows from cinema verite and video blog-
gers to create a rare naturalism in style and performance. The fiction film
watches as an experimental documentary told through the eyes (and lens)
of amateur filmmaker Katie: an American rich kidfollowing Alicja, an er-
ratic unemployed Polish actress. Set in a post-Brexit-vote London, Katie’s
colonising, disruptive presence in Alicja’s life mirrors the treatment of mi-
grants in the UK: Welcomed, used, then discarded. A raw, sexual, and visu-
ally brash film exploring the abusive power and control over someone’s
intimacy.

synopsis
The Man Slayer employs a theme known in Scandinavian and Estonian
folklore. The time frame of the story is from the early morning of a wed-
ding day until the early morning of the following day. The leading character
Maara is a young bride who is about to start her life in her new family.
The Virgin, set in the spring of 1949, tells the story of a young woman
called Elina, who has been deported from Ingria into Estonia. In fear of
being deported to Siberia, she enters into a fictitious marriage with an Es-
tonian man named Heino. Someone informs the “the organs” (NKVD, the
Soviet law enforcement agency) of the fictitious marriage and the couple
are called in for interrogation.
The Shadow moves in the present, on the border areas between reality
and fantasy. The main character, Luna Lee, has decided to flee from home.
Is there something else besides emptiness somewhere? Pastor Theophilus
of St. Peter’s congregation offers Luna Lee a contract with God...
The common link between the three short stories is the leading charac-
ter: Maara, Elina and Luna Lee are all played by the same actress.

synopsis
Radu, 45, rich and single, manages his business with a strong, unwaver-
ing hand and no scruples. His competition is now leading a charge against
him on the stock market, which prompts Radu to remember a childhood
game of beer bottle caps, a game that required risk-taking, effort and skill.
A heart attack and the news that he might need a heart transplant deter-
mines him to head to a remote place, where the Danube river meets the sea,
a place of simple people and age-old customs.

DIRECTOR’S COMMENTS 16 years ago I reached Sfantu Gheorghe, a magical place,
where the Danube River meets the Black Sea.
There I understood that my adult life was a comprised of a series of games, that I was fighting to
win every day.
I remembered those games of my childhood, when I was happy.
A short while after my visit in Sfantu Gheorghe, I retired from business and began writing the
screenplay and, in 2015, after many searches and hesitations, we started filming.

synopsis
Music and silence. Creativity and impotence. Contemplation and buffoon-
ery.He considers himself a genius but the publishers refuse to print his
works.
He loves women but they don’t always understand him. Constantly with-
out money and out of touch with reality. The elegant fop Daniil Yuvachov
names himself Kharms- a name just as effective as his appearance. An ha-
bitué of unending literary get-togethers and a lover of scandal. Living in
society he is completely separate from it. Kharms throws down a gauntlet to
his time, audaciously hurling himself into the vortex of reality, just as vague
and arbitrary, with the same contradictions, as represented by his spirit.
In the atmosphere of his ramshackle flat and in the editorial office of
the children’s magazines «Chizh» & «Yozh», the streets of Leningrad, the
embankments and rooftops, there unfolds an amazing battle between the
man and himself, with his defects, his passions and with the whole world in
which he lives as though he were locked in a cage. Will he manage to cope
with societal pressure, love’s mismatches, the impossibility of creation?
