EMERGENCY NUMBERSDear Students and Parents, Since 1987, the Naperville Police Department has harnessed the creativity of Naperville’s youngest citizens to produce the Naperville Crime Prevention Calendar. Our area elementary school students submit posters highlighting crime prevention issues and members of the Naperville Police Department review the submissions, selecting winners to be included in the calendar each year. As both a proud tradition and a treasured piece that has adorned the walls of Naperville homes for more than three decades, the Naperville Crime Prevention Calendar is a labor of love and a very special piece of work. This year, the global pandemic of COVID-19 brought changes to Naperville. First, this past March, our schools were closed to in-person learning. This meant that schools were not able to submit their students’ artwork for the annual competition. Second, the crisis placed an even greater focus on the value and service of Naperville’s first responders and community helpers. What did not change, however, was our commitment to collaboration for the safety of our community. In fact, the COVID-19 crisis only strengthened our resolve to keep Naperville safe, connected and stronger together. This year’s calendar is a “Best of the Best,” featuring posters from 2015-2019. These posters stand the test of time and have messages that resonate from our young creative minds up through every generation. In addition, these posters were chosen because their focus is on community helpers and support for each other. These are values that are central to Naperville and mean more to us now than ever before. I can think of no better testament to the unique and challenging year we have shared than this retrospective calendar and its focus on those who offer hands, hearts and unity towards helping our Naperville community. Please hang this calendar in a prominent place in your home and use it to guide your family’s discussions on how you can actively participate in public safety every day. Sincerely, Mayor Steve Chirico City of Naperville
