Welcome Back!
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!
We are happy to welcome back all of our Bulldogs and are
looking forward to a happy and productive school year.
Communication is essential for any relationship, including the relationship between our
schools, families, and our community. Green High School has been working to find the
most appropriate means of communication with our families. Here are just some of the
ways, we work to communicate important with our GHS Families:
1. The Bulldog Bite: This wonderful newsletter is published quarterly by our PTSA.
This year, we are going to an entirely digital format. Our publication will be emailed
home to families, and is also posted on our GHS Website.
2. The GHS Website: We work very hard to keep our website up to date and filled
with important information, sometimes almost too much! Take a moment and
explore our website. On the left side of the page, you will find orange tabs which
continue some of our most sought after info, including: our GHS Student Services
tab and our Daily Announcements tab. GHS Website
3. Facebook: We have 2 Facebook pages that we post to weekly. Our Green High School Facebook page and our
Green High School Student Services page. “Like” both our pages for easy updates.
4. Instant Connect Messaging: Our Instant Connect messaging system gives us the opportunity to connect quickly
with all our families. We send our messages about upcoming events, reminders, and important school
information. Short messages can also be sent in text messages. Please make sure we have your email address
that you access most often.
5. Google Classroom: Each grade level has their own Google Classroom. Announcements are posted daily within
these classrooms. Parents can sign up for “guardian notifications” for the Class Classrooms as well as their
individual teacher classrooms.
6. Large Group Information Sessions: We like to hold information sessions in conjunction with our Parent/Teacher
Conference nights. During these evenings, you can conference with your student’s teachers and attend an info
session. These may include: College Credit Plus, Scheduling Info Sessions, and coming soon… a Parent Class on
Google and Google Classroom. Our conferences this year are on September 27, November 8, and February 21.
7. Daily Student Announcements: There are three ways our students can access our daily student announcements:
a. Scrolling Big Screen TVs: There are four large screens TVs in our school on which announcements scroll
continuously. These TVs are in high traffic areas including, the Main Office, Commons, the Student
Services office, and the GHS Media Center.
b. Google Classroom: In each of the four Google Class Classrooms (Class of 2022, Class of 2021, Class of
2020, and Class of 2019), daily announcements are posted each day. Students also receive email
notifications within their school emails of announcements.
c. GHS Website: On the left side of our website, there are grey information tabs, under the scrolling events.
The last tab down is the “Daily Announcements”. Students and families can access our announcements
here and there is always an archive of previous announcements.

Academic Intervention – Helping Students Stay on Track
Bill Bridenthal and Evan Elliott, Assistant Principals
It’s difficult to overstate the importance of keeping current with your school work as a student. With the many activities and distractions available to
students today, it’s easy to veer off course and lose focus. In addition, sometimes students just need that extra little bit of time to help master a
concept or idea. And what if you miss school due to an unforeseen situation? Getting caught up or making up assignments, quizzes, or tests often adds
extra pressure and stress that work against students.
Academic Intervention, or AI for short, is an after-school program we offer here at GHS in order to help students keep active and up-to-date with their
academics. AI is offered three times a week (on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons) from 2:30-4:00 in the school library, and is staffed by
teachers as well as tutors provided by the National Honor Society. The purpose of AI is to provide an atmosphere where students can:
Work individually or in a group on projects and homework
Participate in extra tutoring and assistance with difficult subjects
Complete makeup tests, quizzes, or other assignments from an extended illness
Make up any work that is missing for any reason, with the teacher’s approval
How does AI work? It’s really very simple. Teachers monitor their students’ progress to keep track of anything that is missing. If a student reaches a
point where the teacher feels too much work is missing or adequate progress is not being made, that teacher will refer the student for AI, and his or her
assistant principal will assign dates for them to attend. If the student attends and completes their work, the student is no longer required to attend. If
more time is needed, more AI will be assigned. Teachers may also make an informal suggestion to a student to attend in order to be tutored if they feel
they are not progressing at an acceptable pace.
Students and families do not have to wait to be assigned to AI. Students are permitted to walk-in to AI on their own, and parents are now able to
request AI through the online form on the GHS website. Simply log-on to the GHS website and click on the “AI Request Form” link on the right-hand side
of the page, and an administrator will assign your student to Academic Intervention.
Our focus at Green High School is to help each student be as successful as possible, and AI is an opportunity that can assist out students to do just that.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Bill Bridenthal (bridenthalbill@greenlocalschools.org – Grades 11 & 12) or Evan Elliott
(elliottevan@greenlocalschools.org – Grades 9 & 10).

Heroes Around Me - PTA Reflections Cultural Arts Program
Reflections is the Green Council of PTAs’ annual cultural arts program. Students in
preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit original works of art
around the year’s theme, Heroes Around Me. Heroes Around Me is the 50th anniversary
of the Reflections program.
Entries include a broad scope of interests and include six “artistic” areas: literature, visual arts, photography, dance
choreography, film production, and music composition. Non-typical students can participate in the Special Artist category.
Local winners are chosen and forwarded on to compete at the State and National PTA levels. Many classroom teachers
participate in Reflections by incorporating the program into their curriculum, however the vast majority of entries are from
students who work on a project at home on their own. We have had students from our district win at the State and National
level in the past including four state winners last year.
If your child would like to participate, the time is now start a project. There will be two project turn in nights this year; 4 pm –
6m on and 5 pm – 7 pm on Thursday, November 29th both at the GMS Library Media center.
Student entry forms and guidelines will be posted on the Green Local Schools webpage by the end of September. Students
should complete the student entry form that corresponds to the PTA unit serving the child’s school. More detailed rules by
category can be found on the Ohio PTA website under the Programs tab, the Reflections tab, and then in the Reflections
Handbook.

athletes come to your door to offer you the opportunity to purchase this discount card. You can also purchase these
discount cards during home sporting events at the concession stand throughout the entire year. The discounts are good for
a year and you will recoup your $10 purchase with just a few uses.
Thank you to all the student athletes and volunteers who made it out for our 2nd annual Live After Five FREE concert
series this summer! Everyone had a great time! Please remember that volunteer support is the key to our continued
success. I would like to invite you to attend our monthly public meetings on the first Monday of every month at 7:00 in
Room #128 at Green High School. Hope to see some new faces!
Thanks you again to this amazing community for all your support!
