WAKA
 Whānau who do not have access to their own waka must indicate numbers and names of those who
require a seat on a waka to Ash Patea prior to November 2015. Please note that Hire fees do apply.
(Ash Patea 0278434313) There are limited seats so early notice is encouraged. You may be asked to pay
a bond to the Tira Committee, to secure your place. Book early to save disappointment due to the
       limited number available.

        Two and six man Canadian waka are the approved craft for the Tira Hoe Waka. Kayaks are permitted;
however, you are reminded that you must carry all of your own equipment on board with you. If you
choose to bring your own waka you will need to gain approval from the Safety Coordinator at least
two months prior to the commencement date. Your waka hire and transportation of waka to
Taumarunui and pick-up from Whanganui is your responsibility.

 ALL steerers will need to be approved and attend steering wānanga. These dates will be
         communicated well in advance.

 Waka hire arrangements are your responsibility and not included in the registration cost.

KAIHOE
 All kaihoe must be 12 years of age and over.

 Rangatahi aged 12-17 years inclusive, must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. The caregiver
must accompany them on the water for the whole duration of the Wānanga. The Committee request
at least a 1:3 ratio, meaning 1 adult for every 3 rangatahi.

 Kaihoe are encouraged to be reasonably fit and healthy due to the physical components of the
Wānanga. It is the individuals’ responsibility to know their limits and manage their personal health.
For the your safety it is strongly encouraged that persons who take regular medication visit their
doctor/health professional before commencing the Tira to ensure you are well prepared. It will be
your responsibility to manage your health and wellbeing.

SAFETY

 The captains of each roopu carry basic First Aid supplies but the Tira cannot always ensure there is a
trained medical response person with the Wānanga at all times. If you are aware that you are not
feeling well at any time you must tell your captain and or any member of the coordination team early.
To avoid being unwell in the isolated stretches. Emergency evacuation are at the cost of the
individual. Safety is paramount and the Coordinator is committed to this and will make decisions
         accordingly.

RANGATAHI

participate fully and complete all responsibilities as part of the Tira Whānau. Don’t send your
Rangatahi, BRING THEM. The registration team will strictly monitor this at registration time. If the
Coordinator is not satisfied that there is adequate supervision (1:3) for Rangatahi they will discuss this
with their accompanying whanau and have the final decision as to whether they are able to be on the
water. Please do not be offended, this is for their safety as well as the entire Tira.
