BRITISH SHOW PONY SOCIETY
Classes 16-19 24-28 35-39 46-48 52-53 59-62 74-79 are qualifying Classes for the Royal
International Horse Show. Only one pony from each class qualifies, and the highest
placed (not already qualified), from the first 3 ponies in each class will qualify. All ponies
in these classes must be owned, registered and ridden by B.S.P.S. Members, and animals
must be registered with the A.H.S. to compete in classes 15 and 54. This Show is a
qualifier for the BSPS Championships Show.

as per rule 516 in the 2021 BSPS Rule and Show handbook.

B.S.P.S. “BLACK COUNTRY SADDLES” RIDER OF THE
YEAR The Best Rider in each of the following Open Classes will be awarded a Best Rider
Card and qualify for the final at the Summer Championships Show:- Lead Rein, First
Ridden, Lead Rein of Hunter Type, 128, 138 & 148 Show Pony, 122, 133, 143, 153 S.H.P.,
Cradle Stakes, Nursery Stakes, 133, 143, 153 W.H.P., Intermediate SRT, WH & SH, Open
Heritage Lead Rein, First Ridden and to the best rider 25yrs and under in the Heritage
Ridden and W.H.P. classes. Please telephone – 01487 831 376 For further information.

Ponies placed 1st in the Open Heritage M&M Classes will qualify for the BSPS BINKS
FAMILY CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS at the BSPS Summer Championship Show.
BRITISH SHOW HORSE ASSOCIATION
Held under the rules of the British Show Horse Association. Competitors & Horses must
be registered or have temporary membership with a Day Ticket. Horses registered with
the Association must be Owned, Exhibited and Ridden by current BSHA Members.
Riders must be 15 years of age or older.

Registration numbers must be quoted on entry form. Classes 35-39 are qualifying
classes for the Royal International Horse Show. The first in each class will qualify, if 1st
has already qualified 2nd will qualify. If 1st & 2nd have already qualified then 3rd will
qualify. NEW FOR 2021 The 1st or highest placed prize winners in each Open Affiliated
class will qualify to compete in the BSHA Classic of the Year Final. The Finals will be
held at the BSHA Hunter & National Championship Shows in September 2021. Horses
competing in Sport Horse Breeding classes of (GB) classes at affiliated shows cannot
compete in Hack & Riding Horse classes at the same show.
This does not apply to SHB(GB) Ridden Sport Horse Classes.

DAY TICKETS Non-Members may purchase up to a maximum of 2 Day Tickets per
Exhibitor, per Horse, per Rider, per season. A Day Ticket will allow entry into Amateur,
Home Produced, In-Hand, Novice, Working, Young Rider and Open Affiliated classes
only, but will NOT allow entry into RIHS or HOYS qualifying classes. Horses registered
on a Day Ticket do not require a JMB height certificate. Competitors can apply for a Day
Ticket by downloading an application form from the BSHA website. The BSHA offer a
Novice, Young Rider and Amateur rosette in each Open class and a Champion rosette
for each section (with the exception of Open Working Show Horse, Ladies Show Horse &
HOYS Hunter classes).

SPORT HORSE BREEDING OF GREAT BRITAIN
The Show is affiliated to the S.H.B.(G.B.) and competitors are REQUIRED to abide by its
2021 rules and regulations. Please refer to the SHB of( GB) Rule Book. Owners, Riders
and Producers of horses competing in RIHS classes run in accordance with Sport
Horse Breeding of GB must be a member of the society. Day tickets = £30 (this entitles
competitors to compete at a maximum of 1 show in the year- it covers owner and rider
membership together with horse registration for that show). If the class is a qualifying
class for RIHS, in order for the qualification to be valid, application for full owner/rider
membership and horse registration must be received in the SHB (GB) office within 14
days.
AMATURE RULES
Amateur Rules – including Amateur Working Hunter AMATEUR. A person is an amateur
for showing purposes, when showing ridden hunters in an amateur class, if he or she
does not during the current or previous year: 1) Engage in breeding, livery, buying, selling,
dealing or hiring horses in a commercial capacity or as a means of deriving a main
source of income since January 2019: 2) Accept remuneration whether it be monetary
or goods in kind for employment in connection with horses in a racing, showing or livery
stable or riding school (instruction at Pony Club and Riding Club excepted) since January
2019: 3) Show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm or a horse
for which his or her immediate family accepts livery or training charges from a person
outside the immediate concern.

In addition, persons classed as Amateur must not be supported by a company in any
way or act as a Brand Ambassador. 4) Own/part own an equestrian establishment
including but not limited to riding schools, events centre, stud or livery yard in any
capacity, or receive any form of remuneration for employment at an equestrian
establishment. For the avoidance of doubt for the purpose of this rule, immediate
family members of an owner or part owner of an equestrian establishment who work
or are howsoever otherwise engaged or involved in any capacity, whether or not for
remuneration at the equestrian establishment, will be treated as being an owner or part
owner of that equestrian establishment. 5) Show a horse which a professional rider
has ridden in any ridden hunter or ridden sport horse class during the current year, with
the exception of working hunter classes & ladies hunter classes unless the horse has
subsequently been re-registered under new ownership. 6) Professional show persons
must not enter the Amateur Ring whilst the classes are in progress.

A professional show person is another term for a professional producer and as such
a professional groom who works for a producer can enter the ring to groom. 7) A
professional rider must not ride or exercise an amateur’s horse on the day it is competing
in amateur classes. 8) A competitor is not eligible to compete in Amateur classes on an
Exhibit which has been qualified for either R.I.H.S or H.O.Y.S by a Professional during the
current season, except in Ladies & Working Hunter Classes. 9) Amateur Home Produced
– Horses which are either stabled at home or in a D.I.Y yard and which since 1st January
2021 have not been shown by a professional during the current season or stabled in a
professional yard at any time in 2021. Must be ridden by an Amateur.

This does not exclude the Amateur Owner Home Produced riders having lessons at any
time with an instructor, providing the horse remains stabled at home or in a D.I.Y yard.
BRITISH SKEWBALD AND PIEBALD ASSOCIATION
Classes 12-15 are affiliated to the British Skewbald & Piebald Association and are
qualifiers for the Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead and the BSPA WCC. Classes
will be judged under BSPA rules – download from www.bspaonline.com. All horses /
ponies must be registered and all owners and riders must be BSPA members prior to the
show. Rider’s age taken from 1st January. Membership and qualification cards must be
carried in the ring by competitors and produced as required for inspection or signature.

Failure to do so will mean disqualification. Spurs may not be worn in any pony class.
Ponies 153cms and under (Shetlands exempt) must possess a current JMB height
certificate. All stallions must be graded with BSPA and in possession of a BSPA stallion
ID card which must be carried at all times and produced on request. All stallions must
wear a 2021 Blue BSPA Stallion disc. No rider under 15 may exhibit a stallion in any
class. No competitor / owner / horse may compete in this class or enter the ring without
current 2020 membership of BSPA and a RIHS qualification card. Qualification: 1st place
and the next unqualified competitor standing 2nd or 3rd qualify from each class.

No competitor may qualify from lower than 3rd place. Skewbald & Piebald horses /
ponies only. Highest placed amateur and highest placed junior in each class qualify
for the Amateur and Junior Supreme Championship finals to be held at BSPA World of
Colour Championships at College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe, Bedfordshire

IRISH DRAUGHT RIDDEN CLASSES
These classes are affiliated to the Irish Draught Horse Soc.(GB) and only horses reg.
with or overstamped by the IDHS(GB in the correct ownership are eligible for entry,
registration number must be stated on the entry form and entries will be sent to the
IDHS(GB) prior to the show to confirm their eligibility. All competing stallions must be the
progeny of a Graded Mare (ID Class 1, Class 2, RID(GB) AID or Supplementary Grade Up
Register) by a Class 1,Class 2 or RID(GB)stallion and be inspected or overstamped by the
IDHS(GB) and classified as RID(GB),ID Class 1 or Class 2 or be a registered Irish Draught
Sport Horse and must display a red, white and blue ribbon in their tails. The owners of
all Pure-bred Irish Draught in both in-hand and ridden classes must be full members of
the IDHS(GB). This rule does not apply to owners of Irish Draught Sporthorses. Riders
of stallions must be 18 years or over. This show is a qualifier for the IDHS (GB) £2000
Challenge. Classes 9, 10 & 11 are eligible. The highest placed horse (not already qualified)
from each class will qualify for the Final of the IDHS (GB) £2,000 Challenge which will
be held at the IDHS (GB) Annual Breed Show N.B: A horse may only qualify for the
Final once, regardless of the type or number of classes won, placed in or entered. Each
qualifier will receive a card. Qualifiers are required to complete an online form at
www.idhsgb.com to inform the IDHS (GB) that they have qualified for the Final.

THE SIDE SADDLE ASSOCIATION CLASSES
EQUITATION CHAMPIONSHIPS OPEN QUALIFYING CLASS - Run under SSA Rules
defined in the current Members’ Handbook. Open to SSA Members and Non-Members.
Members carrying their current Championship Points Cards are eligible for SSA rosettes
to 3rd Adult and 3rd Junior places and SSA Championship Points. Southernden Farm
offers a rosette to the highest placed Member aged under 14 on 1st January of the
current year. A rosette in memory of The Late Mr R Philpot is offered to the Adult
Member and Manor Grange Stud Show Centre to the Junior Member, judged to be the
best turned out. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above.

BEST HORSE OR PONY RIDDEN SIDE SADDLE - open to horses and ponies 4 years old
or over: conformation & manners will be taken into consideration; horses/ponies will not
be stripped. A Special rosette will be awarded to the highest placed Adult and Junior
Members of the SSA carrying their current Championship Points Cards. Competitors
must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above. The Highest placed coloured
exhibit (who has not already qualified) receives a Special Rosette and qualifies for the
Side Saddle Final at the CHAPS Championship Show. Open to any type of exhibit. Riders
must be 16 or over. Riders/Owners need not be a member or their exhibit registered with
CHAPS at the time of qualification, but in order to compete at the Championships, the
Rider/Owner must be a showing member and their horse/pony registered with CHAPS
before entering the final. Lead Rein competitors are eligible for this class. Leaders must
be correctly dressed.
CLASSICAL LADIES SIDE SADDLE QUALIFIER Open to SSA Adult Members and Non-
members, aged 18 and over on January 1st of the current year, riding side saddle, on
horses exceeding 148cm (14.2hh). To be judged 25% conformation and action, 25%
manners & way of going, 25% rider and 25% turnout of horse & rider, by a SHBGB, BSHA
or SSA Panel Judge. Judges may request a short show but will not ride exhibits; horses
will not be stripped. Traditional habits must be worn.

Fancy Dress and Period Costumes NOT permitted. Competitors must wear a hat to
current Safety Standard or above. Judges must use the mark sheet provided. The
highest placed horse/rider combination qualifies for the Final to be held at the National
Side Saddle Show. In the event of previous qualification, this may be passed down to
fourth place. Special rosettes are offered by Mrs T Mitchell & Mr L Mitchell to the winner
and if the winner has already qualified, a second rosette is awarded with the Qualification
Card. Qualifying combinations are required to become Full Members of the SSA 21 days
prior to the National Side Saddle Show or as soon as possible if qualified after that date
to be eligible to compete at the Final. Combinations qualifying between one National
Side Saddle Show and the next may carry forward the qualification, for that year only.
The highest placed Riding Horse, Hack (not ex 160cm), Cob or Hunter, Mare or Gelding,
4 years and over, ridden by a SSA Adult Member qualifies for the current year’s BSHA
Championship Show “The Broadband & Phones” Ladies Show Horse Championship and
if already qualified the ticket will go to the next highest placed horse down to 5th place.
Combinations qualifying after the current year’s BSHA Championship Show may carry
forward the qualification, to the following year. SSA Members who qualify for The Ladies
Show Horse Championship, will not be required to join the BSHA in order to compete
in any Side Saddle class at the BSHA National Championship Show. If the BSHA
Championship Show entries have closed at the time of qualification, competitors will not
be charged a late entry fee for the Championship.

SHOW REGULATIONS

1. This Show is affiliated to the BSPS and all persons entering, competing, showing or
otherwise taking part in classes whether or not members of the BSPS are subject to the
Constitution & Rules of the BSPS including the disciplinary procedures of the BSPS and
shall be deemed to have consented to the jurisdiction of the BSPS.

2. The Show will be under the management of the Committee which will have the power
to adjudge any dispute. The decision will be final.

3. The Committee will not be responsible for or liable for any loss or damage which
exhibits pertaining to or connected with any exhibitor may sustain at the Show neither
will the Committee be accountable in any way for accidents that may occur to any
person attending the Show.

4. Please note that times given in the timetable are approximate and competitors must
accept that times could alter.

5. NO TELEPHONE ENTRIES

6. NO entries refunded for ANY REASON, including lameness.

Timekeeping PLEASE NOTE: COMPETITORS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING A
WATCHFUL EYE ON THE TIMES OF THEIR OWN CLASSES. DO NOT RELY ON THE
SHOW TANNOY SYSTEM... THIS IS A LARGE SHOW AND INEVITABLY SOME CLASSES
WILL CLASH. COMPETITORS HAVE TO DECIDE WHICH CLASSES TO ENTER, THEY
CANNOT EXPECT Area 3B TO BE RESPONSIBLE.
Ring 1
HUNTERS, ID & BSPA CLASSES

SHB(GB) RULES STATE it is strongly recommended that competitors aged 18 or over
wear Correctly secured Skull Caps/Riding Hats that meet one of the following current
Safety Standards: All PAS 015; VG1; ASTM F1163 04a onwards; SNELL E2001; AS/NZS
3838 2003 onwards. It is mandatory for competitors under the age of 18 to wear such
skull caps or hats. The first two horses in classes 5-8 will qualify for the R.I.H.S. Horses
must be registered on the 2021how Hunter Register. The first three horses in classes 4,
will qualify for the R.I.H.S. Classes 3-4 The first two highest placed smalls and the two
highest placed lightweights will qualify and in the heavyweight section the two highest
placed middleweights and heavyweights will qualify. Competitors qualifying at this show

Owners and Riders MUST be members of S.H.B. (G.B.). Horses must be registered on the
2021 Show Hunter Register. Day Ticket = £36 (this entitles competitors to compete at a
maximum of 1 show in the year at £36 per show - it covers owner and rider membership
together with horse registration for that show). No horse may be entered in both a
Ridden Hunter and Ridden Hack or Riding Horse class at the same show. This does not
apply to Working Hunter and Ridden Sport Horse classes. Grade A showjumpers and
Advanced Event Horses are not eligible to compete in working hunter classes. Any horse
who has qualified as a grade A showjumper or Advanced Event Horse as at 1st January
in the current year is not eligible to compete in Working Hunter classes.

EQUITATION CHAMPIONSHIPS OPEN QUALIFYING CLASS - Run under SSA Rules defined
in the current Members’ Handbook. Open to SSA Members and Non-Members. Members
carrying their current Championship Points Cards are eligible for SSA rosettes to 3rd Adult
and 3rd Junior places and SSA Championship Points. Southernden Farm offers a rosette
to the highest placed Member aged under 14 on 1st January of the current year. A rosette
in memory of The Late Mr R Philpot is offered to the Adult Member and Manor Grange
Stud Show Centre to the Junior Member, judged to be the best turned out. Competitors
must wear a hat to current Safety Standard or above. BEST HORSE OR PONY RIDDEN
SIDE SADDLE - open to horses and ponies 4 years old or over: conformation & manners
will be taken into consideration; horses/ponies will not be stripped. A Special rosette will be
awarded to the highest placed Adult and Junior Members of the SSA carrying their current
Championship Points Cards. Competitors must wear a hat to current Safety Standard
or above. The Highest placed coloured exhibit (who has not already qualified) receives
a Special Rosette and qualifies for the Side Saddle Final at the CHAPS Championship
Show. Open to any type of exhibit. Riders must be 16 or over. Riders/Owners need not be
a member, or their exhibit registered with CHAPS at the time of qualification, but in order
to compete at the Championships, the Rider/Owner must be a showing member and their
horse/pony registered with CHAPS before entering the final. Lead Rein competitors are
eligible for this class. Leaders must be correctly dressed. CLASSICAL LADIES SIDE SADDLE
QUALIFIER Open to SSA Adult Members and Non-members, aged 18 and over on January
1st of the current year, riding side saddle, on horses exceeding 148cm (14.2hh). To be judged
25% conformation and action, 25% manners & way of going, 25% rider and 25% turnout of
horse & rider, by a SHBGB, BSHA or SSA Panel Judge. Judges may request a short show
but will not ride exhibits; horses will not be stripped. Traditional habits must be worn.
Fancy Dress and Period Costumes NOT permitted. Competitors must wear a hat to current
Safety Standard or above. Judges must use the mark sheet provided. The highest placed
horse/rider combination qualifies for the Final to be held at the National Side Saddle Show.
In the event of previous qualification, this may be passed down to fourth place. Special
rosettes are offered by Mrs T Mitchell & Mr L Mitchell to the winner and if the winner
has already qualified, a second rosette is awarded with the Qualification Card. Qualifying
combinations are required to become Full Members of the SSA 21 days prior to the National
Side Saddle Show or as soon as possible if qualified after that date to be eligible to compete
at the Final. Combinations qualifying between one National Side Saddle Show and the next
may carry forward the qualification, for that year only. The highest placed Riding Horse,
Hack (not ex 160cm), Cob or Hunter, Mare or Gelding, 4 years and over, ridden by a SSA
Adult Member qualifies for the current year’s BSHA Championship Show “The Broadband
& Phones” Ladies Show Horse Championship and if already qualified the ticket will go to
the next highest placed horse down to 5th place. Combinations qualifying after the current
year’s BSHA Championship Show may carry forward the qualification, to the following
year. SSA Members who qualify for The Ladies Show Horse Championship, will not be
required to join the BSHA in order to compete in any Side Saddle class at the BSHA National
Championship Show. If the BSHA Championship Show entries have closed at the time of
qualification, competitors will not be charged a late entry fee for the Championship.

Class 69. Open Equitation - Qualifying Class Open to SSA Members and Non-Members.

Class 70. Best Horse or Pony ridden Side Saddle Open to SSA Members and Non-Members

Class 71. Classical Ladies Side Saddle Qualifying Class Open to adult SSA Members and
Non-Members aged 18 and over on the 1st January 2021.

Anyone who received a Golden Rosette from the Spring Show and from today to complete.

Class 74. RIHS Open Working Hunter Horse. (To be run under SHB(GB) 2020 rules) A mare,
gelding or stallion (competing stallions must have a red, white and blue ribbon displayed
in their tail) four years old and over exceeding 148cm (14.2hh approx) to be judged in
accordance with the rules herein set out. Grade A Show-jumpers and Advanced Event horses
are not eligible to compete in these Classes. Any horse which has qualified as a Grade A
Show Jumper or Advanced Event Horse as at 1st January in the current year is not eligible to
compete in Working Hunter classes. Max height of fences 39” (1.14m).

is a qualifier for the BSPS Binks Family Champion of champions 1st prize winners from
classes 81 and 82 will qualify.

Class 88. BSPS Mixed height Novice Working Hunter Pony. Mare or gelding 4yrs & over. Not
ex. 158cm. Riders MUST jump in their correct height section and be the correct age for the
height of the pony they ride.

for the height of the pony they ride. This show is a qualifier for the BSPS BINKS FAMILY

Class 91. Mixed Height Heritage Open WHP. Stallion Mare or gelding 4 yrs old & over.

Registered in their respective pure breed society stud books, of Connemara, Dartmoor,
Exmoor, Fells, Dales, Highland, New Forest, Shetland & Welsh A, B, C & D. Riders any age.
This show is a qualifier for the BSPS BINKS FAMILY CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS -the
1st prize winner from class 86 will qualify.

Rules and conditions
This show is affiliated to the BSPS and all persons entering, competing, showing or
otherwise taking part in the BSPS classes whether or not members of the BSPS are
subject to the constitution and rules of the BSPS including disciplinary procedures, and
shall be deemed to have consented to the jurisdiction of the BSPS.

Neither the bsps area 3b committee, nor any of its officers, servants or assistants shall
be responsi-ble or accountable for any loss, injury or damage to any person, animal or
property in connection with this show.

Each exhibitor shall abide by and accept as final the decision of the judges, referees,
chief steward and officials of the show.

The judges in the schedule have accepted our invitation to judge, but the committee
reserve the right to appoint substitutes if necessary.

No exhibitor may knowingly show a pony under a judge in circumstances that would
constitute a breach of rule 486 by the judge.

Any pony taking part in classes judged under BSPS rules will be liable to dope testing.

No Refund of entries will be made, except in the event of unforeseen cancellation of the
show, when a £7 levy per entry will be made to cover administration costs.

In all classes correctly secured British Standard skull caps/Riding Hats that meet
current safety standards MUST be worn by riders at all times when mounted.
