About the Event About the Event: The Alton Bay Winter Carnival is hosted and sponsored by the Alton Business Association and is our largest fundraiser of the year. This event would not be possible without the help from our additional local business and community sponsors. You’ll see local businesses and organizations hosting certain events, providing services, and giving generous donations to our event contest winners in support of this event. Many years ago the Winter Carnival was initially hosted by the Town of Alton but the ABA has picked up the torch of this event in recent decades, and we’re proud to continue this Alton tradition for generations to come! Proceeds from this event go directly back to the Alton community, by donating to other non-profit organizations and hosting community building events that help our local businesses and community grow. Fun Fact: Did you know the Alton Bay Seaplane Base and Ice Runway Base 18 (B18), is the only FAA approved ice runway in the lower 48 states? It is a state owned, public use runway and managed by volunteers. The ice runway was first used in the 1940’s by local residents and Altonians have kept the tradition alive for decades. While mother nature dictates if the ice is thick enough for the runway to open, it has opened as early as January 10 and closes by mid-March. Event Parking: Parking for the shuttle is located at the back of Alton Central School at 41 School Street in Alton, NH. The Shuttle will run from 10am-3pm and will run approximately every 20 minutes. Limited street parking will be available at the Bay.
