Planning
The IAPEN International Conference on Surgical Nutrition (ICSN-2019) is hosted and organised by IAPEN – Bangalore

In order to promote Advanced Education in Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition and to facilitate the academic pursuits of

hospitals and health care settings, IAPEN announces International Conference on Surgical Nutrition (ICSN-2019) at
Bangalore, India in association with JSPEN (Japanese Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition).
Nutrition is an integral part of healing and maintenance of health. The conference was designed for medical, nursing &
nutrition professionals who were interested in learning nutrition assessment tools, early enteral nutrition, approaches to
treat critically ill neuropatients using parenteral nutrition, enteral nutrition, immunonutrition, disease specific nutrition. In
addition, malnutrition may contribute to increased morbidity through its effects on immune function, post surgical infec-
tion, requirement of ventilator support, increased length of stay in the ICU and delayed wound healing. Although other
factors influence post transplant outcomes, nutritional status is the only reversible factor. This conference of IAPEN will
provide such a forum for multidisciplinary interaction on Clinical Nutrition.
The conference also consists of paper presentation sessions. The theme of the conference is "Advancing Surgical Nutri-
tion in India" It is the unmissable event of the year for anyone who works or has an interest in Advanced Surgical

JSPEN has achieved many developments, at a remarkable pace, through its pioneering efforts and has become one of the world’s largest nutritional science societies, boasting almost 20,000 members. Furthermore, it is a top class organization comprised of individuals from many differ- ent professions. Behind these achievements, of course, are the individual efforts of numerous dedicated people and the team-based efforts that provide the cornerstone of nutritional team care with Nutrition Support Teams (NSTs). However, the state of society is such that there is an ongoing upsurge in need for this type of work. Takashi Higashiguchi is also Hon President of the International Association for Surgical Metabolism and Nutrition (IASMN). Bangalore, officially known as Bengaluru, is the capital city of
the Indian state of Karnataka. It has a population of over ten
million, making it a Megacity and the third most populous city
and fifth most populous urban agglomeration in India. It is locat-
ed in southern India on the Deccan Plateau at an elevation of
over 900 m (3,000 ft) above sea level, which is the highest
among India's major cities. It reflects its multireligious and
cosmopolitan character by its more than 1000 temples, 400
mosques, 100 churches, 40 Jain derasars, three Sikhgurdwaras,
two Buddhist viharas and one Parsi fire temple located in an
area of 741 km² of the metropolis. The religious places are
further represented to include the few members of the Jewish
community who are making their presence known through the
Chabad that they propose to establish in Bengaluru and the
fairly large number of Bahá'ís whose presence is registered
with a society called the Bahá'í Centre.
Bangalore is sometimes referred to as the "Silicon Valley of
India" (or "IT capital of India") because of its role as the nation's
leading information technology (IT) exporter. Indian technologi-
cal organisations ISRO, Infosys, Wipro and HAL are headquar-
tered in the city. Bangalore city has a number of tourist places.
Apart from the numerous gardens, it also has some historical
sites and other places of interest. The Vidhan Soudha or the
State Secretariat, built in 1954, is the main attraction of this
city. It is a marvel of modern architecture and is a fine amalga-
mation of traditional Dravidian and modern styles. Cubbon
Park, the 120-hectare park located near the Vidhan Soudha,
has a number of neo-classical styled government buildings. The
Government Museum of Bangalore (one of India's oldest
museums) and the Visvesvaraya Technological and Industrial
Museum are important museums within the city. The organizing
committee is happy to provide packaged tours to all the inter-
ested participants.
