WOOLMERS
Woolmers is one of the oldest properties in Mannings
Heath. There is a part of the current house built of stone,
which our client informs us is 15th century, the main part
was built in 1590, an oak timber framed Wealden
farmhouse. Woolmers was a working farm from 1590 to
1925, owned by one family, surname Henley. In 1925
some of the land was sold to build the houses from
Homefield to the Police House. Then Woolmers
Farmhouse, the coach house, and the land surrounding
them were upgraded to make a country house with
gardens and orchards. The owner, Sir Graham
Cunningham was a MP, involved with the war damage
commission, and Woolmers was always an integral part of
Mannings Heath.

Our clients

The present owners purchased the whole site in 1993, and
carried out extensive works to all the buildings. Early
1994 they planted 1500 trees, filling the field between the
house and the A281, and a 30m strip along the A281, up to
Highlands on the southern border. The trees have grown
well over the last 20 years, and 50% of the trees planted
were oaks, and this already has an abundance of wildlife.
In 1995 they put in two lakes, there was already a pond
outside the house, which was upgraded, as a koi carp
pond, with an automated cleaning system, which feeds
the water feature. This is not being used at present, but
could easily be reinstated. A working artesian well is
pumped into the pond to maintain the level.
The tennis court was built in 1995, then overlaid with
artificial grass 10 years later, it has retractable halogen
floodlights, with permission up to 22.00 hours. The
swimming pool, with changing room and snooker room,
were built in 2007. The pool is a constant depth pool
designed for exercise, with a Heatstar climate control
system. The pool building and the pool are highly
insulated, the Heatstar automatically controls the water
and air temperatures, also the humidity and reclaims the
heat, so together with an insulating electric pool cover, the
pool is economic, with minimal maintenance.
The water is kept clean by cartridge filters and UV light,
with minimal chemicals needed.
