Year 11
CORE Trial
Exam and
Final Exam
Preparation
February to March 2018
Name ______________________________ Form _______Year 11 Final Examination Preparation Booklet
The aim of this booklet is to help you prepare for your trial core (English, Maths and Science) exams which
will be taking place from the 19th to 23rd March and the summer exams in May and June.
Why do I need to prepare and revise for my exams?
It is important that you take these exams seriously and perform to the best of your ability because;
You have received offers for courses next year. To get onto these courses you will need to achieve
the best grades you can.
They give you options in the future, the best grades now will allow you greater choices in education
and work throughout your life.
You have completed the trial exams and seen how you did, they are for real now!
What are the school doing to help me prepare for my exams?
We are running a structured revision programme in the lead up to the exams. This booklet is designed to
help by providing the following:
Year 11 revision timetable – this outlines the revision sessions being run by each subject. The day,
time and room are provided. These sessions will run over the next half-term.
Subject specific exam skills topics – subjects have outlined the topic they will be covering each
week over the next half-term.
Coursework catch-up and improvement – subjects where there is a coursework element may be
running sessions to allow you to develop or catch up coursework, these will be available every week.
Independent study space – Library available, before school at lunch and after school each day.
Core trial exams 19th to 23rd March – to give you the experience of exam conditions for the last
time and for you to demonstrate what you learnt from the trial exams in December.
What do you have to do?
Look through the booklet with your parents and decide on which subjects and topics would be best
for you to attend in order to perform well in the exams.
Attend at least three revision or coursework catch up sessions or attend independent study in the
week.
Begin revising at home, making sure you revise all subjects.
Use GCSE Pod to help with your factual revision in preparation for the exams.
What is in it for me?
You will perform better in your exams through being well prepared. If you prepared well for the trial
exams in December you would have noticed the impact on your performance.
You will be less stressed for your exams in the summer as you will feel confident and prepared.
Long term revision is the way you will achieve the best grades possible.
You will need to attend at least 30 sessions in total from October to May and under normal
circumstances have a 95% attendance record in order to receive an invitation to the prom
enabling you to buy your ticket at the end of the year.Year 11 Exam Skills Timetable
1. Students should aim to attend at least 3 sessions each week.
2. You must have attended at least 30 sessions to meet the requirement of your passport to the Prom.
