St. Mary’s Hospital Center has been at the forefront of community healthcare in Montreal for close
to 90 years. During this time, we have grown, we have learned and we have constantly looked for
ways to improve, thereby raising the level of quality of care we offer. In short, we have defined
Healthcare on a Human Scale.
Over the years, we have conducted research and assessed needs, we have survived a trying economic
situation and today, we are proud to say that we continue to withstand the test of time.
What was just a dream has become the most ambitious and transformational undertaking in our
Hospital’s history: the Campus Development Project. This initiative involves the building of two new
floors on the West wing of the hospital, the expansion of our Emergency Department, the participation
of St. Mary’s in unparalleled research and the establishment of the Women’s Health initiative.
As the adventure begins with the renovations of our Emergency (currently underway), we cannot
overlook the integral role the members of the St. Mary’s Society play in every single aspect of the
realization of our vision. The strength of your support and the depth of your commitment to bringing
the best patient-centered care to our community both humbles and amazes us.

Depuis près de 90 ans, le Centre hospitalier de St. Mary est à l’avant-garde des soins de
santé communautaires à Montréal. Durant cette période, nous avons grandi, nous avons
appris et nous avons constamment recherché des moyens de nous améliorer, haussant
continuellement le niveau de qualité des soins que nous offrons. En un mot, nous avons défini les
Soins de santé à dimension humaine.
Au fil des ans, nous avons mené des recherches et évalué nos besoins; nous avons survécu à une
situation économique difficile et aujourd’hui, nous sommes fiers d’affirmer que nous continuons à
résister à l’épreuve du temps.
Ce qui n’était qu’un rêve est devenu l’entreprise de transformation la plus ambitieuse de l’histoire
de l’hôpital : le projet de développement du campus. Cette initiative inclut l’ajout de deux étages
à l’aile ouest de l’hôpital, l’agrandissement du Service des urgences, la participation de St. Mary à
des initiatives de recherche sans précédent et l’établissement du programme de Santé des femmes.
Tandis que l’aventure débute avec les travaux de rénovation des Urgences (présentement
en cours), il importe de souligner le rôle central que jouent les membres de la Société de
St. Mary dans chacun des aspects de la concrétisation de notre vision. La force de votre
appui et la profondeur de votre engagement à offrir les meilleurs soins à notre communauté
nous inspirent à la fois humilité et profonde gratitude.

EMERGENCY• St. Mary’s is committed to providing women, as the nucleus of the family, with WHOLE-PERSON CARE THAT
RESPECTS THEIR PARTICULAR NEEDS in terms of physical health and psychosocial wellness. In 2012, the
unfolding of our Campus Development Project prompted us to launch our Buy-a-Brick Program. Raising
funds in support of St. Mary’s Women’s Health initiative, Buy-a-Brick paves the way for our plans to take an
INTEGRATIVE AND INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO WOMEN’S HEALTH through addressing a multitude of
healthcare, education and clinical research needs specific to women.
• St. Mary’s held its annual Quality of care and research symposium – titled Patient Engagement: The Sound
of Rubber Hitting the Road – in the spring of 2012. The main objectives of the symposium were: to SHARE
ExPERIENCES OF PATIENT ENGAGEMENT FROM DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES and analyze their potential impact
on outcomes; to understand the factors that may facilitate, or impede, patient engagement and to RAISE
AWARENESS AMONG HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS of issues relating to patient engagement. In short, this
forum represents a perfect platform for speakers and participants to work together towards IMPROVING THE
QUALITY OF CARE and ensuring a better overall patient experience.
• As part of our patient-centered approach to healthcare, we understand that comfort is reflected in many things,
including the beds we provide. Setting a NEW STANDARD FOR PATIENT SAFETY AND COMFORT, St. Mary’s
is committed to ensuring that each of its 271 beds are of state-of-the-art standard. Brought forward by the
planned addition of two new floors to the West wing of our Hospital, this initiative is supported by St. Mary’s
adopt-a-Bed Program, launched in early 2012.

practices given to us by our predecessors and learned by us through a lifetime of experience.
And our heritage is the one very tangible thing we can pass onto the next generation, to guide
and inform them, and to remind them fondly that once-upon-a-time, we were here. Every day,
ordinary people are showing extraordinary generosity by leaving legacy gifts to St. Mary’s in their
wills and estate plans and they are listed on the following page.
The loss of a loved one often never fully heals and it is only through our memories that we
are able to hold dear all that they meant to us. Our appreciation and heartfelt sympathy to the
families and friends of the people on the Memorial Listing in whose name a plaque was recently
placed on the St. Mary’s Memorial Wall.

RESPECTENT LEURS BESOINS PARTICULIERS en matière de bien-être physique et psychosocial. En 2012, la concrétisation
de notre projet de développement du campus nous a incités à lancer le programme achetez une brique. Ayant pour
but d’amasser des fonds en soutien de la Clinique de santé des femmes de St. Mary, Achetez une brique ouvre la voie
qui nous permettra d’aborder la Santé des femmes DE MANIèRE INTÉGRATIVE ET INTERDISCIPLINAIRE et de répondre
à la multitude de besoins en matière de soins de santé, d’information et de recherche clinique qui lui sont propres.
• Sous le thème La participation des patients : une amorce ou une continuité, St. Mary a tenu son symposium annuel
sur la qualité des soins et la recherche en avril 2012. Les objectifs principaux du Symposium étaient d’ExPLORER LES
ExPÉRIENCES DE PARTICIPATION DES PATIENTS SELON DES PERSPECTIVES VARIÉES ainsi que d’analyser leur impact
potentiel sur les résultats; de comprendre les facteurs susceptibles de faciliter la participation des patients, ou d’y
faire obstacle; et de SENSIBILISER LES PROFESSIONNELS DE LA SANTÉ aux enjeux liés à la participation des patients.
Ce type de forum se révèle une plateforme idéale qui permet à tous ses participants de travailler ensemble dans le
but d’AMÉLIORER LA QUALITÉ DES SOINS, assurant ainsi la meilleure expérience possible pour nos patients.
• Nos patients sont le point central de notre pratique des soins de santé et nous comprenons que leur confort dépend de
multiples facteurs, incluant le lit que nous leurs offrons. Établissant une NOUVELLE NORME EN MATIèRE DE SÉCURITÉ
ET DE CONFORT DES PATIENTS, St. Mary s’est engagé à ce que chacun de ses 271 lits rencontre les meilleures normes
d’excellence. Mise de l’avant par notre projet d’ajout de deux étages à l’aile ouest de notre hôpital, cette initiative est
appuyée par le programme achetez un lit de St. Mary, inauguré au printemps 2012.
