                                                   Club History

The origins of the football club go back to 1947 when it was first established. Five foundation members at the time
were seen as critical to getting the club up and running, these members were Leo Sullivan, Karl Gallagher, Keith
Wilcoxin, Cliff Williamson and W Prigg. At this stage of the clubs history it had 175 junior players linked to it
across many junior clubs including Hammondville, Regents Park, Cabramatta, Fairfield, Bankstown, Mt Pritchard,
Villawood, Green Valley and Holsworthy Warwick Farm. Leo Sullivan a former VFL player with Richmond had
worked tirelessly to see the formation of the senior club. Karl Gallagher was instrumental in forming and organising
the large junior network. Gallagher and Sullivan first recruited converts to Australian Football, through a procession
through the streets of Liverpool using a large sign on his delivery truck. This vehicle played a greater role in the early
years as it was used to transport players to away games.

The Sullivan family holds a unique place in the history at the club as the only family to have had three generations of
players represent it. Keith Wilcoxin’s family still has involvement at Rosedale with his grandson playing first grade
cricket with the Fairfield Liverpool Lions.

The clubs first colours were believed to have been black and white and this is supported in documentation on the early
history of the club however of the years it has seen a number of changes in the colours and has worn Black and Gold,
Blue and White and Blue Black and White as well as the current Black, White and Gold strip.

1949 the club won its first premiership defeating Rosebery in what was then the Districts competition before in was
admitted into the Sydney AFL in 1951.

The clubs original home ground was the Liverpool Showgrounds however a sale of the land forced the club to look
elsewhere and the club was granted flat scrubland at Warwick Farm for their new oval. Leo Sullivan at this time
was an Alderman on the Liverpool Council. This land was flat however covered in tea trees and a working
committee was formed which saw the tea tees gradually removed and the ground cleared. As a result of this
voluntary work Rosedale Oval was developed and was set aside with Australian Rules Football to be the only sport
played upon it.

1959 saw the club win Sydney AFL’s first “Lightning Premiership”.

In 1963 a combined Liverpool/Bankstown team won the Sydney AFL Under 19’s Premiership. This is the clubs
first premiership since admission into the Sydney AFL.

In 1964 with football flourishing in the area Parramatta Liverpool and Bankstown combined and formed Southern
Districts however the next ten years are said to be among the most turbulent in the clubs history. A new club room
at Rosedale that was a combined effort of volunteers and the council was opened.

In 1965 Southern Districts win the reserve grade Premiership. The competitions equivalent in 2012 is Division1.

1972 saw Bankstown AFC reform and split with Southern Districts who continue to play under the same name.

was not passed, it was decided to drop from the Division 1 Competition and field one senior team only in the
Division 2competition. This team reaches the preliminary final before being defeated by UNSW.

2008 South West Sydney AFC renamed to Moorebank Magpies AFC.
The Magpies continue their revival by adding an under 18’s team to the club. Seniors finish in fourth position

2009 The Sydney AFL restructures the competition into a division structure. The club continues to grow and a
reserves team is introduced into the fold to compete in the Division competition with the seniors in div 2. Neither
senior side make the finals in 2009 however the under 18’s team does in only their second year.

                                  MMAFC STANDARD’S AND EXPECTATIONS

Contribute

This club exists for your enjoyment and is run by volunteers that you elect. Every member should ask themselves
“what can I do for the club that adds value so that we continue to grow and achieve success?”

Respect

It is a privilege to be a member of Moorebank. That privilege comes with a series of responsibilities and
expectations that go with being a Magpie, particularly at the game and post-match whilst socialising with team
mates and the wider community.

Remember at all times that you are a representative of the Moorebank Australian Football Club. Accept this
responsibility and conduct yourself at all times in a manner that brings credit to yourself and the Club.

Obscene language and anti-social behaviour are totally unacceptable and simply will not be tolerated. Everyone
socialising within the Club is doing so for the same reason – to have a good time! Please ensure that your
behaviour does not have a negative impact on others.

Expectations

Every player at the Club needs to know them, as they are integral to our success!

Inclusiveness – Welcome, support and embrace new players, family and friends into the Magpie family.

Respect – All coaches, players, officials, volunteers as well as the umpires and the opposition.

Assistance - The club relies upon volunteers to ensure all tasks needed to make game day a success are
completed, do your bit when asked or better volunteer to help.

Respect Club Property – Treat all property with respect. If you used it last put it away, if you dirtied it clean it.
NEVER EVER leave your jumper on the ground, put in in your bag or in the Teams bag after games – Fines will
apply.

Mateship – Get to know the names of EVERY player, official and volunteer at the club. Introduce yourself to a
few people each night at training and at games.

Punctuality – Arrive on time for training and games. Communicate with your coaches if you’re going to be late,
are unavailable or injured.

Participate – Enjoy every aspect the club has to offer both on the field and off. The more you put in the more
rewarding your experience as a Magpie will be.

If you have an injury, make sure you tell your coach and then see the Physiotherapist for treatment – ICE it post

Those players not training due to injuries are expected to attend training to receive medical treatment.

Injured players will also be given rehabilitation programs which they will work on during training nights away
from the main group.

Players leaving the ground for any reason during training MUST see the coach before doing so.

When training is finished all players are expected to WARM DOWN. Perform warm down routine as outlined by the
clubs S&C Coach Levih. DON’T TAKE SHORT CUTS – Prevention of injury is better than cure.

                        PLAYER RESPONSIBILITIES ON MATCH DAYS

Attire

First Grade and Under 19’s players are required to be attired in club polo, black trousers and black dress shoes.
Reserves and Third grade must wear club polo to all games as a minimum (same dress code as first grade preferred).

Timing

On match days senior players are required to be at home games a minimum of two hours before the scheduled start of
play. All other grades at least a minimum of at least one hour prior to the commencement of their game. In the event
that a lower grade is the last fixture for the day timing as per seniors applies.

Excuses for being late only indicate that you have failed to prepare properly.

For Reserve, Third & Fourth Grade sides: after the game – stay as a team, enjoy a drink & something to eat and
watch the Senior Grade game for at least a quarter. However it is preferred that you stay for the entire game.

Pre Game

The pre game meeting will occur after half time of the previous game.

Everyone prepares differently, however all players are expected to be ready one hour prior to the scheduled start of
any game for team meetings and at least 40 minutes ready to begin warm up. If you require strapping or rubbing
communicate to the physio’s and trainers well in advance so as to not adversely affect preparation of the entire
playing group.

Game Face

On match days, get the basics right. Don’t forget your boots, socks, shorts and mouthguard.

Present yourself in the right condition to play your best footy. Players who show up not ready to play do nothing
more than display a lack of commitment to their own game and a lack of respect for both the Club and their team
mates.

We advise all players to bring two pairs of socks, shorts and towels as well as boots suitable for dry and wet
conditions. Playing in Sydney though it is advisable to wear moulded boots ahead of screw in’s.

Everyone has their own pre game ritual however remember to respect those of your teammates.

Change rooms

Only players, coaches and support staff are allowed in rooms (unless invited).

Mobile phones are to be turned off.

All rubbish is to be placed in the bins provided.

Team Address

Only your coach or nominated player is to address the team before, at breaks and directly after the match. All others
despite best intentions will be asked to leave.

Post Match

At the completion of all home and away games, all players will be required to complete:

Ice bath recovery
Shower
Have something to eat (Sandwiches will be provided)
Rehydrate with light refreshments
Players are not permitted to drink alcohol during cool down and or recovery

Home Games – It is compulsory to attend all post match presentations.

Away Games – If invited players are expected to have one drink (preferably a soft drink), at the oppositions club.

Monthly Sponsors Awards Nights
Club awards will be presented to players on a monthly basis at our Major Sponsor Mounties new venue the Triglav
Club. These nights will be held after away games and are compulsory for all players regardless of grade to attend.

                          NON PLAYING MATCH DAY REQUIREMENTS

Your time to Shine

Game day requires the entire club to come together for us to enjoy participating in games. It’s requires us to support
our mates. Support comes in all sorts of forms and when asked step up it will be noticed. Whether you assist as an
umpire (goal central or boundary), run water, sell raffle tickets, help in the canteen on the BBQ , broom the change
rooms or any other job to ensure we present a professional club it’s all valued equally.

The volunteer coordinator is responsible for assigning game day duties and the match day manager for directing on
game day. Once notified, it is your responsibility to ensure you fulfil your duties. If circumstances at the time mean
that you are unable fulfil your duty for whatever reason, then it is your responsibility to find someone else to cover
you. It isn’t acceptable to just ignore your responsibility. This is not what the club is about and not what it has been
built upon remember “what can you do to add value?”

IF we are going to succeed remember this simple acronym for TEAM – “Together Each Achieves More”.

Essential requirements for a Successful Match Day
Trainers (Water Runners) - Each team requires Trainers and water runners and each team kit is equipped with
trainers’ shirts. All volunteers are required to wear the shirt and either black tracksuit bottoms or black club shorts.
Remember to thank those running water when you’re provided a drink.

Team Runners – Every coach relies on runners to manage their team on game day. If asked to assist there are not
many higher accolades offered to volunteers on game day. This position commands a high level of respect from those
requesting assistance. Enjoy the experience.

while supporting our communities and helping them grow!

History

Mt Pritchard & District Community Club has come a long way since 1968 when two humble government huts were
hauled by road from Herne Bay (now known as Riverwood) and anchored on 1.2 hectares of land in Meadows Road,
Mt Pritchard.

Several men enjoying a beer in a hotel in Cabramatta had the idea to build a workers-style club that supported the
social and sporting needs of the community.

47 years ago, Green Valley had not been released for housing commission development and Mt Pritchard was neither
bush nor suburb. The State Government offered homes to those who, “could come up with a hundred quid” (around
$200). Suddenly there was a surge of young families to Mt Pritchard from Sydney's inner west.

As the population of Mt Pritchard grew so too did the call for more leisure and sporting activities and thus, the need
for more venues and meeting places. The first sporting clubs of the area were rugby league and cricket, both formed
in 1927. Among the members of the cricket team were two of the White brothers – Mortimer (Mitta) and Joe,
brothers of Terry and Cecil who became Mt Pritchard & District Community Club’s first president and inaugural
committee member respectively.

Of course for the men who liked a drink after work, the nearest hotel was at Cabramatta. The problem was that most
women preferred not to go there and there was nothing to keep children entertained. What was needed was a social
focal point for the developing Mt Pritchard community. The newcomers, together with the established residents of
Mt Pritchard, decided to do something about it.

The concept was born during a series of meetings conducted in the homes of interested parties. Once the idea took
hold, interest soon increased. Debentures were struck and £300 (around $600) was raised toward the establishment of
the Club.

The dream became a reality when local resident, the late Tom McAuliffe, offered a block of land in Meadows Road
in exchange for debentures in the club. The funds raised by the debentures paid for the two ex-government huts that
became the original club house.

Despite the obvious need for a district community club felt by most local residents, there was a strong opposition
from local hotels, sporting clubs and the authorities. An application for a club named ‘Mt Pritchard Workers Club
Limited’ was rejected!

Finally in May 1964, the Mt Pritchard & District Community Club was incorporated. However, another four years
passed before the courts granted the Club a liquor license.

Looking at the Club today, the area that it commands and the millions of dollars of support it provides to the
community and 30 plus Sub Clubs, it is difficult to imagine its humble beginnings in the early 60's.

A vision was turned into a reality that every member of Mt Pritchard & District Community Club can be immensely
proud of.

Express Direct Services in its current form was founded in 1986 through the merger of three smaller logistics
companies. Family owned and operated, the company's origins begin with the founder purchasing his first delivery
truck after the culmination of World War II.

The company's operations now span three generations, and provide supply chain services Australia-wide through our
own network, and through our partner networks.

Our focus is on providing bespoke logistics services with minimal overhead. We bring generations of experience and
a passion for efficiency together with a personable service that is about making our customers receive a high return
on investment. We want to provide you with a level of service to your business and your customers that you could
not provide on your own at minimal cost.

EDS offer their supply chain services to many top companies across a broad range of industries which include
Mining and Chemicals, Building Materials, Food, Bulk Retail, Electrical equipment, Reverse Logistic Solution and
more.

Our head office is located in New South Wales, in the outer south-western suburbs of Sydney.
Conveniently located to the Westlink M7 and South Western Motorway interchange, this location offers
easy access to our interstate depots.

With locations throughout Australia we are able to offer logistics solutions across all country locations.
