General Information
Maryland - Pennsylvania Trane provides indoor comfort systems and energy efficiency solutions for
   commercial, industrial and institutional applications. We are pleased to provide you with a full
                  schedule of HVAC educational programs at our local offices.

Descriptions and details of each course are provided in the following catalog. We will provide your
team with a real world education on the latest innovations in HVAC equipment and controls systems
including operation and maintenance procedures for owners, engineers, property managers and
contractors.

We work hard to provide you with the highest quality training for your dollar.

Tuition includes instruction, materials and catered light breakfast and/or lunch.
Payment must be received prior to class. Registration is available by mail, email, fax or phone.

Dates are subject to change. We reserve the right to cancel any class due to class size, weather or
illness. All students will be notified as early as possible, ideally prior to billing.

Cancellation Policy: You may cancel up to 72 hours before class and tuition will be refunded less a
$35 registration fee. Cancellations in less than 72 hours and “no shows” will not be refunded.

Trane is an approved provider of Maryland and Pennsylvania professional development licensing
boards. At the conclusion of each course, attendees will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Meet Our Instructors
Nelson Warthan, The Warthan Group
Nelson Warthan has 40 plus years of experience in educational training,
consulting, public speaking, management and leadership. Mr. Warthan is a
Military Veteran with over 30 years of honorable service and is
nationally recognized for his technical, managerial and facilities
consulting. Mr. Warthan and The Warthan Group provide organizations
with valuable commercial property systems training.

Elmer Franklin
Elmer Franklin is a graduate from Michigan Mott College of Applied
Science’s Mechanical Technology Program as well as a graduate of the
United States Air Force Refrigeration Specialist Program. Mr. Franklin
specialized in the building operation and maintenance field for Ameritech,
and was a corporate technical specialist and educational director for a
five-state area, providing technical assistance and training for 600
employees who maintained 4,000 buildings. Mr. Franklin retired from the
corporate world in 2000 and now conducts seminars.

Rick E. Hoover PE, CEM
Rick Hoover is a graduate from Penn State University with a Bachelors
Degree in Electrical Engineering and Power Technical Institute. Mr. Hoover
is a Registered Professional Engineer in DE and PA, a Certified Energy
Manager, and holds a National Electric Code Inspector license. Mr. Hoover
worked for Met-Ed as an Electrical Engineer for 13 years. He has taught
electrical courses for York Technical Institute, Met-Ed, Schaedler YESCO,
Cocciardi Associates, the Manufacturers Association and many others. He
also performs NFPA 70 E Arc Flash studies and certification classes.

This course is designed to show how the National Electric Code (NEC) the NESC & OSHA tie together
and learn about new NEC codes that will affect the working environment. Additionally, students will gain
a full understanding on NFPA 70 E safe work practices and learn about SCCR ratings, Arc Flash, Arc
Blast, cal/cm2 and energy levels. Finally, the course will cover an understanding of OSHA, who is
qualified, what training is required and what PPE students should be using as part of their everyday
routine.

Attendees who complete this course will become NFPA 70 E Arc Flash qualified per the NEC.

This course will explain the operation and components of boilers, burners, combustion safety devices
and low-pressure steam and hot water heating boiler fittings. Common steam and hydronic heating
systems are discussed along with procedures to initially startup and maintain them. Testing and
maintenance procedures are covered including step-by-step ASME CSD-1 requirements.

Job aids are provided to assist technicians with tasks associated with most combustion safety control
testing.

                       Electrical Troubleshooting for HVAC

After an overview of electric terminology, the attendees will learn the operation of various electrical
devices used in HVAC systems and the procedures for troubleshooting those devices. This course
incorporates principles of relays and other wiring mechanisms and covers the basic principles of
reading schematic wiring diagrams. The attendees will become familiar with HVAC electrical devices,
circuits and will be able to use this knowledge to troubleshoot electrical controls and electrical systems
in order to repair them.

This course brings to light the factors that affect indoor air quality or IAQ. It covers how to discover if a
facility has a potential IAQ problem, how to prevent potential IAQ issues and how to remedy issues that
already exist. Attendees will learn how to deal with problems and concerns of employees and the public
with effective communications. Includes a 229-page IAQ guide from the United States EPA.

This course is designed to familiarize participants with the Voyager Rooftop Unit, specifically
commercial 3 through 50 ton rooftop air conditioners with VAV or CV controls. This course focuses on
installation, operation and maintenance. Also included are system troubleshooting, micro controls,
ignition and combustion. This workshop will also introduce attendees to the Precedent Unit, which is
the “mini-Voyager” concept.

mechanical systems such as air handlers, low-pressure boilers, chillers and more. Participants will
be prepared to start a preventive maintenance program or better operate an existing program. This
course emphasizes the reliability centered maintenance approach of combining strategies to reduce
overall cost and keep equipment in top shape.

Tracer Ensemble™ Operation is specifically designed for building operators and administrators to
become more efficient with their Tracer Ensemble™ software, a Web-enabled service and monitoring
tool for multiple building facilities. Tracer Ensemble™ allows building operators and administrators
access to the software from the local network or the Internet to monitor and control their building
system. Students will have the opportunity to work with the Tracer Ensemble™ software to become
more familiar with common tasks.

This course is designed to promote an understanding of variable air volume (VAV), the concept of air
movement and discusses the different concepts in equipment and design. This course also introduces
the systems, valves, controls and zone controls. Early pneumatic styles up to early electronic boards
are covered as well as the newer style of boxes along with their electronic controls. VariTrac is used
to turn small constant volume commercial systems into VAV. VariTrane and VariTrac boxes are used
in both configurations.

                TRACE 3D Plus Analysis Software Training
                                        Course Number: T3D

TRACE 3D Plus Load Design - March 20 - Course Number T3D-1: TRACE 3D Plus Load software is
a separate program incorporating the load and system portion of the design process. In other words, it
contains the functionality of TRACE 3D Plus minus the energy and economic portions of the program.
Use this program to complete complex building load calculations for virtually any building.

The class is designed primarily for beginning users, but advanced users will gain a better
understanding of program methodology and garner tips from the trainer. This class provides basic
information critical for understanding subsequent C.D.S. TRACE 3D Plus Energy & Economics course
and advanced topics.

Prerequisites: You must hold a valid license for the TRACE 3D Plus software.

TRACE 3D Plus Energy & Economics - March 21 - Course Number T3D-2: TRACE 3D Plus software
is the benchmark complete load, system, energy and economic analysis program that compares the
energy and economic impact of such building alternatives as architectural features, HVAC systems,
building utilization or scheduling and economic options.

The class is designed primarily for intermediate users. The information in this class provides basic
information critical for understanding subsequent C.D.S. TRACE courses (e.g. the TRACE 700, LEED,
and ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and the Advanced Topics courses).

Prerequisites: You must hold a valid license for the software. Participants are expected to have
previously attended TRACE Load Design training, and if not, to be a proficient TRACE Load user.

The multi-session Air Conditioning Clinics are intended to educate students on the fundamentals
of Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC). More experienced individuals may consider this a
refresher course. This is not a maintenance or repair class.
