The 2018 FIFA World Cup is the 21st World Cup, with Russia hosting the
final tournament from June 14 to July 15, 2018. On December 2, 2010, Russia
received final approval as the host country of 2018 FIFA World Cup in the Swiss
city of Zurich. Russia already had a significant advantage in the second stage of
the voting, gaining more than 50 percent of the vote.
Russia is hosting the World Cup for the first time ever. Not only that, it is also
the first time the tournament is held in Eastern Europe. The World Cup is taking
place at 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities.

Moscow is the capital of Russia and the largest city in Europe. A major transit hub,
it has four airports, nine railway stations and three river ports.
The Church of the Ascension in Kolomenskoye, the Novodevichy Convent and the
Moscow Kremlin are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
There are 388 parks in Moscow, the largest of them being Gorky Park, VDNKh,
Sokolniki, Park Pobedy, Losiny Ostrov National Park, the Botanical Gardens, and
the museum estates Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno and Kuskovo.
There are several viewing points with stationary binoculars offering panoramic
views of the city, located at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Kolomenskoye,
Gorky Park, the West (Zapad) and Federation towers in the Moscow International
Business Center. The highest vista point is located on the Ostankino TV tower at
an altitude of 337 meters.
A huge number of high-profile international sports events were held in Moscow
over the past 10 years, including two ice hockey championships (2007, 2016), an
athletics championship (2013), the canoe sprint world championships (2014), the
world fencing championships (2015), and the UIPM Senior World Championships
(modern pentathlon, 2016). Following the tragic events in Japan in 2011, Moscow
took over hosting the World Figure Skating Championships that year. It only took
Russia a month to prepare for the tournament.
In 2017 Moscow hosted FIFA Confederation Cup matches.
