BOTANICAL GARDEN

The City of Frankfurt acquired the Botanical Garden from the
University of Frankfurt and administratively joined it to the
Palmengarten in 2012. The gardens were established through a
foundation initiated by Johann Christian Senckenberg in 1763.
Senckenberg intended this as a medicinal garden to support
medical research and to provide herbs for treatment of ailments.
The garden’s current mission is in education and preservation
of regional plant diversity and the local flora. A modern guiding
system with touchscreens including app and audioguide for the
handicapped and visually impaired has recently been installed in
the Medicinal Garden.
