A Year Like No Other
Annual Report 2020
Dear Friends,
The year 2020 was a year like no other. None of us could see what was coming when
we welcomed the new year last January. At Children’s HeartLink our 50th anniver-
sary year had just ended on a high note. We marked our half-century milestone with
a celebration attended by friends and partners from all over the world and the next
day convened our first scientific summit on pediatric cardiac care. We helped a record
number of children.
We began our 51st year with high hopes for the year and the decade ahead. We trav-
eled to China to announce a new partner hospital and a new collaboration with the Ai
You Foundation. But by mid-March, the world as we knew it had changed overnight.
Our in-person training visits came to an end due to restrictions on international travel.
But despite our changing world, through it all, you, our community of supporters and
partners, remained steadfast in your commitment to our work. Thank you! We’re so grate-
ful to you for helping us adapt and sustain our impact. You made a difference in the lives
of sick, vulnerable children and their families at a time when they need us most.
Resilience + Momentum
In spite of the challenges we’ve faced, for Children’s HeartLink this period has also
been characterized by remarkable resilience and momentum. Many of our partners and
medical volunteers recommitted to training, which is at the heart of our mission and
the engine of change for the pediatric heart teams we serve. We are reimagining our
training model and since the pandemic began, we have increased our reach to new
people in new countries. In April we launched a webpage and email distribution list to
share resources about COVID and pediatric heart disease.
As we look ahead, we remain hopeful and unwavering in our commitment to the chil-
dren who need us. Children’s HeartLink has endured many challenges in its 51 years,
and it met those challenges time and again, thanks to visionary leadership, dedicated
volunteers and partners, and generous and committed donors. Together, we continue
to meet the challenges of this moment and continue our vital work. No matter what
is happening in the world, children are being born with heart disease, and they need
lifesaving care.
We are truly grateful to every one of you for your commitment and support, which
children around the world need now more than ever.

2020 reminded us that we are all connected, no
matter where we live, and that we need each other’s
support like never before. Despite the challenges
presented by the pandemic, Children’s HeartLink
continued to support our partners in all the ways
we could, and our partners went to heroic lengths to
treat their young patients.
