2021 Distributor Slate Days 14 - 15 September - Amazon AWS
Welcome

When I was at school, an old friend – I forget his name –
said to me; “life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and
look around once in a while, you could miss it”. It really
stayed with me.

I’ve been thinking about what he said a lot recently
as we start to emerge (again) into a post-pandemic
industry recovery, because so much has happened over
the past 18 months and there are so many learnings,
new models of operation, disruption and opportunities
to try to make sense of, but I’m not sure we’ve had the
chance to do that collectively as an industry.

But now here we are again, at another edition of
Distributor Slate Days. Hopefully the event will give us
all a chance to stop and look around to understand some
of these changes that are occurring – be them release
patterns, breadth of slate, or just new connections and
contacts.

Additionally, the BFI has also started to develop its
new 10-year National Lottery funding strategy to help
distil all of these learnings so we can work out what we
want to achieve as a distributor of funding. There’s an
active consultation underway (named ‘Next Up’), and I
hope as many of you can participate as possible to help
us shape the future purpose and vision.

Welcome

On behalf of Film Hub Scotland, I’m pleased to welcome
you to the 2021 edition of Distributor Slate Days. We are so
pleased to welcome colleagues back to an in-venue event
and also to continue to offer an online programme to others
    across the country.

Audiences in Scotland tell us how much they have missed
cinema and how glad they are to be back in their favourite
venues to see the latest releases and classic films. Over the
next two days you’ll have the opportunity to meet new people,
connect with colleagues, preview the forthcoming year of
cinema releases and be inspired to bring diverse, independent
    cinema to your audiences.

Film Hub Scotland is the lead organisation for UK-wide BFI
FAN Member Support and Development, which includes
national training and events, and year-round specialised
advice and support from industry experts through FAN Advice
Sessions. We look forward to seeing you again soon, either at
an online FAN Conversation event or at This Way Up in Bristol
    in December.

We hope that you have an enriching, enjoyable and productive
Slate Days and leave feeling confident and excited about the
future of cinema. And finally, big thanks to our colleagues at
Film Hub London for delivering another brilliant Slate Days.

    Allison Gardner
    Chief Executive

Welcome

On behalf of Film Hub London, welcome to the 2021 edition of
Distributor Slate Days.

Cinema is still unquestionably the best place for filmgoers to experience
the undimmed magic of the movies. A vital part of the film industry’s
ecosystem, cinemas contribute significantly to the UK’s culture and
economy. So I am thrilled to welcome exhibitors and distributors back
to Picturehouse Central this year, as well as online.

We hope that Distributor Slate Days provides an opportunity for
constructive conversations looking towards welcoming back audiences
with world-class film. With even more independent distributors set to
attend this year, alongside returning majors, we look forward to what
promises to be an exciting and diverse programme.

I would like to thank Film Hub Scotland, the BFI Film Audience
Network, Picturehouse Cinemas and our generous sponsors for their
commitment and enthusiasm toward Distributor Slate Days.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your commitment to cinema. Our
cinemas have been particularly hard hit by the pandemic, but thanks to
the hard work and creativity of our industry, audiences of all ages from
across all the rich and diverse communities of the UK can once again
enjoy the unrivalled wonder of the big screen.

I hope you enjoy this year’s event and I look forward to seeing a wealth
of our distribution and exhibition friends in person over the coming days.
