Cedar Point Amusement Park
Cedar Point Update – Cedar Point will continue to
commemorate their 150th Anniversary in 2021. The park
is looking forward to celebrating with all of its fans this
season. New attractions and experiences include Snake River
Expedition, the Celebrate 150 Spectacular (which includes
a Midway parade), a reimagined Town Hall, and several new
food and beverage options. Follow cedarpoint.com/150 for

Downtown Sandusky Welcomes Another New Shopping Experience – Vita Sandusky,
located in a historic building, which formerly housed Commercial Banking and Trust
and most recently Calvary Temple, at the corner of Columbus Ave. and Washington
Row, offers multiple services in one space with community and convenience in mind.
Vita Sandusky is a coffee shop, artisan market, and bistro bar all in one. It is a place
to grab a bite to eat, meet friends for drinks, or pick up a snack or specialty grocery
item. They also feature vendors from the seasonal Sandusky Farmer’s Market offering a
variety of items from jewelry, to paper crafts, and even fresh flowers in season.
Kalahari Underwater Virtual Reality, Mini-Golf, Italian Dining – Sandusky’s Kalahari
Resorts & Conventions recently introduced its Underwater VR Experience. Kalahari
is the FIRST in the country to showcase this incredible Underwater Virtual Reality
Experience technology! The experience is available in the water park twice daily and
can accommodate 20-30 people per hour. The resort also opened a new outdoor 18-
hole mini-golf course in 2020 as part of the Safari Outdoor Adventure Park. Sortino’s
Italian Kitchen opened in the resort late in the year, carrying on a tradition of fine
Italian dining and a Sandusky-area tradition. The former Sortino’s Little Italy, near
downtown Sandusky, closed at the end of the year as the owners retired. The Kalahari
restaurant features many of the same menu items and a collection of the family’s
Sicilian favorites.

New Holiday Inn Express & Suites Coming to Milan – Kelsey Lodging, LLC, is
constructing an all-new Holiday Inn Express & Suites at the former location of the
Super 8 Motel in Milan, near the Ohio Turnpike. The new four-story, 90-room hotel
will include an indoor pool, modern rooms, meeting spaces, patio, free Wi-Fi, and free
breakfast. It is projected to open in April 2021.
The Que Barbecue & Brew
The Que Barbecue & Brew – The owners of the former Nagoya Japanese Steakhouse
in Port Clinton have remodeled and opened a completely new restaurant. The Que
Barbecue & Brew offers sandwiches, low and slow cooked smokehouse meats, salads,
all the fixings and sides, plus a great variety of beers. An outdoor patio welcomes
guests of the eatery to enjoy waterfront dining.
New Attraction and Eatery on Kelleys Island – The island, well-known for its fall
Monarch butterfly migration, now welcomes a new butterfly house attraction and
café. The Monarch Butterfly Box and Caterpillar Café opened on the island in 2020. It
features an 1,800 sq. ft. walk-through greenhouse full of plants and animals. The space
also has a gift shop and small “grab-and-go” snack bar.
New Market Barn – Quarry Hill Orchards grew more than fruit in 2020 with an all-new,
larger market barn. Here, guests are welcomed to try delicious produce, sip cider,
and sample farm-made goods from the community. Orchard visitors can also partake
in wagon rides, special events, and pick-your-own fruits. Nearby, Quarry Hill Winery
invites visitors to enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the orchards and vineyards.
Founded in 1931, Quarry Hill Orchards is a third-generation family farm operating on
nearly 300 acres.
A Year-round Experience at Lakeside – For more than 145 years, Lakeside Chautauqua
has welcomed families and groups to the Lake Erie shore for an experience aimed at
nurturing mind, body, and spirit. Lakeside Chautauqua welcomed new President and
CEO Daniel Rogers in 2020 and one of his top initiatives was to increase the offerings
and activities available in this summer community to more year-round options.
Enter Slack House Historic Café, which opened in the fall. This new eatery features a
nostalgic menu with burgers, shakes, hand-cut fries, and more. A portion of all sales
goes to support Lake Erie initiatives.

Jackson Street Pier
Jackson Street Pier and Sandusky Bay Pathway – Debuted in late-May 2020, the
updated Jackson Street Pier in downtown Sandusky is now a popular and inviting
space for visitors and residents to enjoy the Sandusky Bay waterfront. There is seating,
including benches and swings, as well as the welcoming sunset steps. Mylander Pavilion
is also available for group rentals and will eventually host covered markets. There are
bistro tables and chairs as well for dining. Goodtime I Lake Erie Island Cruises opened
Goodtime Café, serving bagels and deli sandwiches, while The Frozen Tiki serves
frozen ice cream treats nightly. It is now a popular fishing and sightseeing spot in the
heart of downtown Sandusky. Sandusky Bay Pathway, a biking and walking pathway,
received extensive improvements in town, including new paving and sidewalks, painted
to indicate the water side and the land side, the “Mile Zero” marker at the foot of
Columbus Ave., and plans to continue expansion until the path connects Sandusky to
Huron. Plans are moving forward for “The Landing,” a 27-acre park along the trail, which
will be located behind Sports Force Parks on Cleveland Rd.
Sandusky Bay Pancake House – Locally owned and operated, Sandusky Bay Pancake
House is the latest incarnation from the Schuster family, who have operated local
restaurants for decades. The new Sandusky Bay Pancake House is a breakfast and
brunch eatery which incorporates ingredients from numerous local farmers and other
small businesses. Both sweet and savory cravings can be satisfied by an extensive
offering of pancakes, egg dishes, crêpes, waffles, French toast, sandwiches, salads,
burgers, and more. Dine inside, on a spacious covered patio, or at the bar. In addition to
specialty coffees and cold brews, they offer brunch cocktails and locally-produced beer
and wine.
Cedar Stables Inn & Suites – This 10-room, themed, boutique-style hotel is located on
Cedar Point Dr. in the Cedar Corner Complex, which also includes Cedar Lanes and The
Thirsty Pony, as well as the adjacent Holiday Inn Express. Every room offers comfortable
accommodations for both couples and families, featuring horse stable-themed décor
with hardwood floors and stone fireplaces.

Expand your Knowledge of Sandusky’s Underground Railroad Connections – Maritime Museum of Sandusky has expanded its Underground Railroad exhibit, now focusing more on maritime activity and how it relates to Sandusky’s role in the Underground Railroad. The main feature of the exhibit is a full-size replica of the aft section of a Great Lakes Sharpie – a type of sailboat used in pound net fishing during the 19th century. The boats were also used to take people escaping enslavement across Lake Erie to Canada, and are sometimes called “abolitionist boats.” Another way to learn about Sandusky’s role is with the new Underground Railroad tour from Sandusky Segwave, debuting in 2021. In addition to its regular, guided historical and sightseeing tours of the city via Segway, see the locales and significant sites with historical connections to the movement. When the Maritime Museum of Sandusky opens for 2021, be prepared for some major new exhibits. Explore an interactive knot-tying adventure that’s built around an actual vessel and will provide a learning experience for summer camps, scouting groups, and visitors of all ages. Hardcore history buffs and armchair boatwrights will be blown away by the new full-size replica of a naval gun position aboard an 1812 brig and a 32-lb carronade, the main gun mounted on Niagara and Lawrence, both part of Oliver Hazard Perry’s fleet. Many areas of the museum also underwent improvements in 2020, including an enhanced treatment of the Johnson Island POW camp, an upgraded look at marine navigation, expanded coverage of the age of passenger steamers, and a fantastic new perspective on Prohibition. African Safari Wildlife Park Giraffe Encounters and Trolley Tour – Want to come face-to-face with one of the world’s tallest animals? African Safari Wildlife Park and The Watering Hole Safari at Monsoon Lagoon both offer private giraffe encounters. An additional cost experience, at African Safari you can reserve a 30-minute slot for up to eight guests, where you will be escorted to the giraffe area and be able to learn about and hand-feed each of the animals. This special experience is available daily, prior to park opening. Giraffe Experiences at The Watering Hole can be reserved in advance or purchased at the door. A new trolley tour of the drive-thru safari at The Watering Hole is available as well, for those who prefer an open-air experience and don’t wish to visit in their personal vehicle. Relax at Spa Catawba – Spa Catawba, a destination spa located in the Port Clinton
area, recently broke ground on a new, expansive facility on SR 269 in Marblehead
with plans to expand their service offerings in spring 2021. Established late in 2019 as
an intimate personal-care center committed to health and well-being, Spa Catawba
offers tailored and customizable spa services with a commitment to using the most
advanced technology and products available to leave you rested and recharged. They
also offer organic skin care options.
The Postcard Project – Vermilion’s first public art installation, debuted throughout
2019 and 2020 and is now available in its completion for public viewing. Featuring 15
mural-sized paintings of vintage postcards placed around the coastal town, this trail is
an ode to Vermilion’s heritage as a vacation destination. A keepsake guide is available
from Main Street Vermilion which features a trail map and a short history of each
postcard. Souvenir postcards are also for sale to benefit future public arts projects.
Updates at Crosswinds Restaurant & Bar – Port Clinton’s Crosswinds Restaurant
& Bar is implementing some changes for 2021. Most notably, new Executive Chef
Aaron Jackson has joined the team and is revamping the menu. The restaurant’s
food offerings showcase his classic Italian and French culinary training, along with
his Southern heritage. While the restaurant has kept the famous Lake Erie Perch and
Walleye recipes and continues to offer an outstanding gourmet burger selection,
the new menu features a Small Plates section with items like Fried Green Tomatoes,
Meatball Sliders, Lake Erie Perch Tacos, and Bruschetta, as well as entrées including
Carbonara, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Eggplant Napoleon, Shrimp and Grits, and a
Bourbon Apple Pork Chop. Chef Jackson will update the menu seasonally with new
exciting dishes.

“After 2020 events in New York and Michigan were cancelled
due to statewide mandates, we were able to connect with
Chris Lewis, Sports Tourism Manager at Lake Erie Shores &
Islands. He put us in contact with Jason Werling with the
City of Sandusky and we were able to get multiple events
rescheduled on the waters of Lake Erie. One of the events,
the FLW Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit, was a nationally-
televised award-winning event and was viewed by millions
on the Outdoor Channel and the Sportsman Channel with
hours of repeated showings.
Without the assistance of Lake Erie Shores & Islands and
the City of Sandusky these events could not have happened
in 2020 and much revenue would have been lost! This help
and the hard work to make it happen for us at FLW MLF will
ensure we will return to the Sandusky area with other events
