2021 SALES MANUAL - AVIGNON : Avignon Tourisme
UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995 and a true
open-air museum, Avignon was for much of the 14th
Century home of the Pope when the papal seat was
moved there.
Nowadays the Palace of the Popes still stands in powerful
testimony to the presence of 9 successive popes.
The historic center of this walled city, one of the very few in
France, includes the Popes Palace but also the episcopal
center, the St Bénezet medieval bridge and the Rocher
des Doms hill park.

Worldwide famous, Avignon’s performing art festival
provides plenty of artistic satisfaction and sums up to
perfection the city’s cultural state of mind.
Avignon was named European Capital of Culture in 2000.

Packed with gourmet delights and wine lover secrets,
Avignon is an ideal base for exploring the Provence area
and its unique way of life.

There are lots of things that make Avignon an extraordinary city: its age-old and
action-packed history, its status as the capital of Christianity in the 14th century when From 4 € per person
the French Popes made it the base for their papacy and Roma Nuova (New Rome) and
its fabulous heritage covering all kinds of architectural styles from Ancient Rome to
       the 20th century.

We’ve all heard of the medieval UNESCO World Heritage sites of St Bénezet Bridge and
the Palace of the Popes but how many of us know that the Provencal city is packed with
hidden gems and was a wealthy artistic hotbed in the 16th and 17th century blending
       Italian and French styles?

Join us to explore this period following the Avignon popes and presence of legates.
During your walk you’ll visit the wonderful Jesuit churches, step into a 17th century
mansion, gaze at paintings by Mignard and Parrocel and get VIP access to a chapel
that’s rarely open to the general public.
