This magnificent stretch of coastline is one of Australia’s most naturally
beautiful and most dramatic. Not only will you drive along the stunning
coastal roads of the NSW and Victorian Coast but through the ghost-white
gums of the Snowy Mountains and into the country charms of towns like
Nimmitabel, Kiandra and Goulburn.
From stunning beaches to spectacular wilderness and breathtaking national
parks this tour has it all!Day 1
NEWCASTLE TO BATEMANS BAY MT-L-D
Monday 11th October
Accommodation Araluen Motor Lodge, Batemans Bay
7am Depart King’s Coach Depot (11 Concord Street, Boolaroo).
We will stop for morning tea at Castle Hill before embarking on
the journey to Stanwell Tops Lookout. This picturesque village on
the northern tip of Wollongong is an internationally acclaimed area
for hang-gliding and paragliding. We will further look at the
Lawrence Hargrave Monument, recognised as the father of
modern aviation, before heading onto Seacliff Bridge. The 665-
metre-long Seacliff Bridge is a highlight along the Grand Pacific
Drive.
From this, we will travel to Wollongong. Lunch this afternoon is at
Woonona Bulli RSL. From lunch, we will travel to Batemans Bay
stopping along the way in Kiama, Berry, Bomaderry and Nowra.
Approximate arrival in Batemans Bay is 5:15pm.
Day 2
BATEMANS BAY TO LAKES ENTRANCE B-MT-L-D
Tuesday 12th October
Accommodation Lakes Entrance RSL, Lakes Entrance
Depart Batemans Bay after breakfast and travel to the urban centre of
the Sapphire Coast, Bega for morning tea. After morning tea we will
continue our travel on the Princes Highway toward Eden. This area
encompasses warm sapphire blue waters, it is the southern gateway to
the stunning Sapphire Coast.
This afternoon we will board the Cat Balou Luncheon Cruise from Twofold
Bay. This is one of the deepest natural harbours in the World and the
only port on the Sapphire Coast which has direct ocean access with no
sand bars to negotiate. After disembarking at around 2pm, we will travel
onto the Lakes Entrance, stopping at the Cann River along the way.
Arrival at Lakes Entrance will be approximately 5:30pm. Dinner tonight is
in the RSL Club next door to our accommodation.
Day 3
LAKES ENTRANCE - BUCHAN B-D
Wednesday 13th October
Accommodation Lakes Entrance RSL, Lakes Entrance
Our day will begin with a guided tour of the Buchan
Caves. Near the township of Buchan, lies a honeycomb of
caves full of spectacular limestone formations.
This afternoon you will have time to explore the main
town area of Lakes Entrance and purchase some lunch.
Late afternoon we enjoy the Peel family hospitality as we
cruise on the scenic Gippsland waterways. This afternoon
our cruise will be onboard the pride of the fleet ‘The
Thunderbird’.
After disembarking from this magnificent cruise, we
return the Motel, where there is time to relax before
dinner at 6.30pm.Day 4
KALIMNA – BAIRNSDALE - SALE B-MT-D
Thursday 14th October
Accommodation Lakes Entrance RSL, Lakes Entrance
The first sightseeing location today is the Kalimna Lookout
which offers spectacular views of the Lakes system and Ninety
Mile beach.
We then head to Nyerimilang Homestead a historic homestead
surrounded by beautiful gardens, lawns and picnic areas and a
magnificent view from a cliff top above the Gippsland Lakes.
Following this, we shall travel down to Bairnsdale for morning
tea. Our journey takes us further into the Gippsland region to
the city of Sale. There will be time for a walk around and to
purchase some lunch before a tour of the city.
Our return to the Motel this afternoon will be at 5.15pm before
dinner at the RSL at 6:30pm.
Day 5
LAKES ENTRANCE TO QUEANBEYAN B-MT-L-D
Friday 15th October
Accommodation Grand Manor Motor Inn, Queanbeyan
Breakfast this morning will be at 7am in the Motel dining room before
we depart at 8am enroute to Queanbeyan. We will take a relaxing
break for a morning tea and comfort stop along the Cann River. From
here we will head to Nimmitabel, a charming historic village on the
Monaro Plains. It was once an important stopover for miners and
prospectors making their way from the coast to the goldfields at
Kiandra. Lunch will be enjoyed in this historic town.
After lunch we will begin our travel on the Snowy Mountains Highway
into the township of Cooma where we will embark on a guided tour of
the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre. This state-of-the-art visitor facility
showcases the amazing history of the Snowy Mountains Scheme; from
the early days of construction through to how it is operated by Snowy
Hydro today.
Day 6
QUEANBEYAN TO NEWCASTLE B-MT
Saturday 16th October
This morning breakfast will be at 7.30am in the Motel dining
room before we begin our return journey home. Our drive home
this morning will take us onto the Tarago Road past the towns of
Bungendore and Tarago and into Goulburn.
Whilst in Goulburn we will enjoy morning tea and a guided tour
of the Garroorigang historic home, a beautiful privately-owned
heritage home on the outskirts of Goulburn where Australian
history is showcased in the unique setting of a lived-in family
home.
Lunch will be in the Town Centre of Goulburn with many cafés,
bakeries and shops to grab a bite to eat from. After lunch we will
continue our way back to King’s Depot with a comfort stop en
route.
5.30pm Estimated return time to King’s Depot, Boolaroo.
