Lat.63 art production. non urban art arena

Lat.63 is a movable meeting place for contemporary art
and culture along the Latitudes and a node for North
Cultitude 6263. North Cultitude 6263 international
cultural projects can be arranged and produced with
the Lat.63 art arena.

The concept of the non-urban art arena comes from
the idea that the country is often described on the basis
of the normative urban concept in society. The goal is to
change this limited image by creating a meeting point, a
laboratory for art, culture, performing arts, workshops,
art projects and social debate for a sustainable present
from a broader perspective.

Lat.63 is a platform for a wide range of arts activities in
cooperation with regional and national cultural institu-
tions. Lat.63 is working to establish contacts and part-
nerships with the network of artists, cultural creators,
architects, scientists and representatives from the private
and public sectors. Lat.63 art arena started on the 3rd
of October 2015.

ART DINNER and PITCH
In the concept of Art Dinner we connect two places in two countries
with Internet and Skype. To arrange an Art Dinner, you must send
representatives between the connected places/nodes to create more
collaboration. We eat and drink the same, connected by screens and
communicating over Skype. The dining table continues through the
digital screen to the other node. During the dinners we share perfor-
mance, films and artist talks between the two places. In these events,
we often do Pitches, 5 minute project, 15 images presentations which
shown on both sides. Afterwards, all participants will give feedback to
the pitcher. Today we have done eight Pitches between two countries.

cultural projects in countries along the 62 and 63 latitude.

CONFERENCES AND
SEMINARS
November 15th in 2018 North Cultitude 6263
together with KKV - Härnösand (Collective Art-
ist Workshop) and Härnösand municipality orga-
nized. Culture Lunch and the conference “Artist
wherever you live”. National representatives of
the artist organization KRO and KLYS and local
officials and politicians were in place.

The aim of the conference was to discuss how
artists in the middle of Sweden and the Nordic
countries could make a living of their profession.
What opportunities and difficulties in being an
artist living in “non-urban” areas of 62 and 63
latitudes? The political aspect of these issues was
in focus as well as how KRO and KLYS respond-
ed to these questions.

The result was to continue the dialogue with
the municipality of Härnösand and KKV with the
purpose of making better opportunities for the
artists in the region to practice their profession.
ART ALONG THE LATITUDES
November 15th 2018 North Cultitude 6263 together with KKV - Härnösand
arranged an Art Along The Latitudes event. The purpose was to gather art-
ists and musicians along the latitudes and creating a unique event. The event
included art performances, music and art experiments, talks and more. Art
Along The Latitudes always creates unexpected meetings and new ideas. It
is an inspiring gathering of creativity of different artistic expression, with
participants from the latitudes.

Workshops
The network has recently started a collaboration
with WCU World Culture United to develop and
arrange workshops. The workshops focus is proj-
ect development, issues concerning collaborations,
culture, social sustainability and cultural projects in
collaboration along latitudes.

In Khanty-Mansiysk Nov. 2018 the network per-
formed for the first time such a workshop led by
Irene Dominguez Marquez on topics concerning
youth and culture.

The result was successful and inspiring. The North
Cultitude team in place got the task to tell about
their experiences of being artists and the impor-
tance of creating relationships and networks col-
laborating with other people in the cultural sphere.

The network is now investigating the possibility of
establishing networks and relationships with young
artists and organizing workshops along Latitudes
6263 in collaboration with WCU.

HUNGER COMPLETED PROJECT
Norway - Sweden - Finland
The project HUNGER is produced through collaboration between craft artists from
Sweden, Finland and Norway in collaboration with the organization Norske Kunsthåndverkere Midt-
Norge. Our aim is to develop and present works of contemporary craft from our region as carriers
of values and strategies for creativity. Through co-working with our Nordic partners, we seek to
strengthen our knowledge and develop a deeper understanding of things that are made by hand.
We ask: What happens when craft artists meet, artists whose knowledge has been gained in different
places and at different times? And what happens when that knowledge is refined and transformed?

To achieve our aim, we have organized three theme-based workshops: food craft, reed craft, and craft-
ing with “blåleir” (London clay). These are held in Östersund in Sweden, Vaasa in Finland and Trondheim
in Norway during 2017 and 2018. During these workshops experimented with different techniques
and exchange thoughts and knowledge. The three workshops focused on specific material-related
crafts. At all the workshops the same 9 professional artists from Finland, Sweden and Norway attended.
The first workshop was held at Lat.63 art arena at Frösön in Östersund, Sweden in early September
2017. Participants worked with sponge paint, food materials, etc. Next workshop was in spring 2018 at
Malakta Art Center, Malax Finland and the last workshop was in Trondheim later 2018 followed by an
exhibition in okt 2018. By Brit Dyrnes, Toril Redalen and the Hunger team in Trondheim.

INTERREG 2013 - 2014
North Cultititude 6263 network started with a workshop 2012 in Ilsvi-
ka Atelier Trondheim. The network had been run as an Interreg project
in 2015 - 2014 when the platform took shape and the contacts were
taken. 2015 - 2017, various forms of support funds have been used in
the municipal, regional and international funds. Funding is applied region-
ally and for a separate project by the project owners with the North
Cutitude 6263 network as a partner. NC6263 helps to establish and
develop concepts and contacts abroad within the cultural geographic
area of the 62nd and 63rd latitude. The network also seeks financial
support in international organizations and institutions for the develop-
ment of contacts and establishment outside the Nordic countries along
62 and 63 latitude.

special occasions and not continuously.
One of the major challenges with this kind of cross

communication channels and info platforms.

North Cultitude 6263 is constantly working on
finding new technologies for communication and
