Page 2 Kentucky SUPER PREPS June 27, 2021 813 College Street • Bowling Green, Ky 42101 • (270) 783-3230 The Bowling Green Daily News and Med Center Health were proud to host the 4th Annual Kentucky Super Preps program. Thirteen local high schools including Bowling Green, Warren East, Warren Central, Greenwood, South Warren, Franklin-Simpson, Logan County, Russellville, Allen County-Scottsville, Barren County, Glasgow, Butler County and Edmonson County all participated in the program to honor the best of the best of our local student-athletes. At the very least 2020 was a challenging and difficult year for everyone, even more so for the student-athletes, parents, coaches, and school administrators. Last year, the pandemic impacted our ability to host the event “live” as we had done the prior two years. We felt it was important for consistency, to make sure that Kentucky Super Preps didn’t miss a beat. Our only option was to conduct the program virtually, which we did with the help of Vid Monster Productions. Fast forward one year later with a new venue (Bowling Green Ballpark) and covid-19 restrictions lifted, Kentucky Super Preps was once again held live. We can’t say enough about the Bowling Green Ballpark and the Bowling Green Hot Rods as hosts for the event. Their level of professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond was both refreshing and very much appreciated. Just as we have done in the past, every nominee was brought on stage and every nominee received a certificate of recognition and appreciation. There were 254 student-athletes that were recognized in the program this year. Kentucky Super Preps, presented by Med Center Health, is an awards program and celebration reserved for a very special group of high school student-athletes. The recognition is not just for what they may have accomplished on their fields and courts of play, but for the way they thrive in the classroom, in school and in their communities. Kentucky Super Preps honors the best of the very best when it comes to academics, community service, school and athletics. The nominees are chosen by their head coach as representatives of their sport at their respective schools. Being nominated is an honor all unto itself as the requirements are very stringent. The student-athlete must demonstrate that they have excelled academically, displayed unselfishness in community service, had a positive impact on their fellow teammates and performed well athletically. It isn’t easy being an exceptional student-athlete in today’s world. There are many challenges just to remain competitive athletically, then when you add in academic pressure, community involvement expectations, and covid-19 restrictions you end up with what could be best described as a full plate. Once all of the nominees have been submitted, an independent committee of five people evaluates each written nomination and selects the overall winners for each sport. They also choose the winners of the specialty awards to include the comeback player of the year, extra mile, heart & desire, sportsmanship, coach of the year, athletic director of the year, outstanding academic achievement, community excellence, and finally the overall Boys Student-Athlete of the year and the overall Girls Student-Athlete of the year awards. Our Keynote speaker was former Tennessee Titan Kevin Dyson. His message to the attendees was very targeted and well timed. Kevin says “to let go of the obstacles that keep you from maximizing your true potential for greatness”. The event was broadcast live on the Bowling Green Daily News Facebook page, the Med Center Health Facebook page, the Kentucky Super Preps Facebook page and on the 270bg app. We thank the team at Vid Monster Productions for handling the live broadcast. The Kentucky Super Preps was made possible by our sponsors. There is no charge to any of the nominees, their parents, coaches or invitees because the local sponsors are making it happen. Every award is sponsored by and named after a local business. Kentucky Super Preps was presented by Med Center Health and we are fortunate to have a partner that recognizes the importance of celebrating our youth that truly make a difference in our communities. We look forward to the 5th Annual Kentucky Super Preps next year at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Bowling Green Daily News will remain committed to this program as we feel it represents what is most important in our community, the youth.
