WHO WE ARE?:
Hampshire Youth Project is run by Enable Ability and funded by various grant funders for young people aged 16-25 years living in South East
Hampshire; areas include Emsworth, Havant, Hayling Island, Waterlooville, Fareham, Gosport, Eastleigh, Petersfield and surrounding districts. We
only accept young people living in Portsmouth if they attend a Hampshire school or college.

The project aims to provide young people with physical and/or mild-moderate learning disability, or additional need, with the opportunity to
engage in a variety of planned recreational, social and sporting activities as part of a group setting.

This enables young people to interact and socialise with other peers on a weekly basis. Activities are designed to improve pivotal life skills for all
young people; including building their confidence & self-esteem, independence, communications and multitasking skills, to name a few.

Hampshire Youth Project staff are trained to support young people and accommodate their needs during each activity, regardless of their level of
ability; physical or otherwise.
Activities for the project include social clubs, going out for meals, going to the cinema, ten pin bowling, art and crafts activities, baking/cooking,
sports and general socialising, as well as supported volunteering and work experience. We also arrange a variety of day trips outside of the local
area for any museums, theatres or theme parks.
Once a referral to our project has been made – this can be by a parent, carer, the young person themselves or a professional – we arrange a home
visit to meet the family and have a chat about our Project and what we can offer.

A minibus service is also provided to accommodate for long distance trips. All activities for the project do take place on weekends, usually on
Saturdays with the occasional Sunday and weekday evening.

There is no obligation to attend all activities; parents and carers are free to register their young person for as many activities as they would like.

Sunday 7th April: Join Hampshire Youth Project Enterprises (HYPE) for this fantastic opportunity
to learn and gain experience within a working environment. The Weald & Downland Living
Museum provides the public with a wide knowledge and understanding of historic living. We
will be working within a 40-acre site, full of a fascinating collection of historic buildings and
helping the museum’s staff with their daily activities ranging from customer service, displays
and general maintenance. A certificate will be issued at the end of the placement which could
be used to enhance your young person’s CV and provide an interesting talking point in future
interviews. This forms part of a 12 hour placement on the following dates: 5th May (Spring
Show event involvement), 30th June and 21st July (celebratory event). It is preferred that young
people attend all four sessions but not compulsory.

PORTCHESTER
KARATE CLUB FOR ALL ABILITIES…

Saturday 13th April: Karate, a Japanese developed martial art, is much more than the art of
self-defence. The practice of karate develops self confidence, self discipline, a sense of respect
for self and others and is an excellent developer of character. The physical exercises and
regular training develops body stamina and strength and helps to maintain good health. Karate
is suitable for most people and at Portchester, their members range from 6 to 80 of all abilities
with opportunities to attend more often if you like this taster session. Come along and give it a
try!
