ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We acknowledge the palawa people who have danced across lutruwita for more
than 60,000 years and whose lands were never ceded.

We pay tribute to their Elders past and present, and to other Elders of First Nations
                                       people.

ASSEMBLY 197 is a meeting place of people, art and communities. Our home is in
the heart of Launceston, located at the meeting of the
    laykila/North Esk, plipatumila/South Esk and kanamaluka/Tamar rivers.

ASSEMBLY 197 is fortunate to make, perform and share art. It is a privilege that we
are able to bring communities together on this beautiful Country.

                                                                                   1

 EMMA PORTEUS + MARY SCOTT
 Exectutive Producer: Emma Porteus
 Lead Provocateur: Mary Scott

Year one will deliver a long-form interdisciplinary artist laboratory
and mentorship program led by Emma Porteus and Dr mary Scott,
alongside Tasmanian and interstate Artist Provocateurs.

The purpose of Year One is for artists to become knowledgeable
in socially relevant arts practice, and to develop project ideas in
consultation with the communities they live in. The artists will also
use this time to undertake consultations and interviews with locals
and community leaders and organisations to identify opportunities
 for creative engagement.

Year Two provides support for the lead artists to realise the
project ideas they have developed with and for their communities,
and in collaboration with partner organisations. The artist will be
encouraged to build teams of creative collaborators (other local
practitioners, video artists, designers, writers, musicians etc) and
they will source the relevant materials and resources within their
budgetary allowance. Steps here are dependent on the types of
projects to be realised; each of the nine projects will have different
focusses and intents, dependent on the community they are
 collaborating with.

SESSIONS
MONTHLY EARLY DEVELOPMENT SHOWINGS
Sessions will provide a creative space for artists to share work
early in development for critical feedback. Held once a month on a
Friday, artists will present a work in development, offering artists
and the community the opportunity to engage together in critical
reflection in a nurturing environment. It will catapult new Tasmanian
works and solidify Launceston as the home of Live Art creation in
Tasmania.

wishing to participate in dance classes on a casual basis and in a
non-competitive environment. In 2022 we will launch a series of new
classes from numerous artforms.

MAKE CHOREOGRAPHIC
INTENSIVE
MAKE is a platform for dance-makers to share and explore
choreographic practice. Led by an exceptional Australian
choreographer each year, it is a space to unpack and transform
choreographic practice and seed new ideas for the future. Previously
led by Jo Lloyd and Jenni Large, in 2022 we welcome Melanie Lane.
