Charles Darwin School Headlines I would like to begin by saying how proud I am to be starting this term as the Headteacher of Charles Darwin School, and what a privilege it is to lead this fantastic school into the next stages of its growth and improvement. Over the past few days, I have been particularly impressed with the warm welcome I have received from students and staff and to see how much the students are enjoying their lessons. Over the coming months I will be setting out my longer term vision, which at its heart is about having high standards and expectations in everything we do, whilst creating positive and memorable learning experiences that will stay with our students for the rest of their life. I believe that every child has talent and that every child can achieve and I look forward to seeing their many talents being developed and discovered. As a father to two children, I understand how important it is that a school knows my child and can get the best out of them, whilst giving them a safe and enjoyable experience each and every day. With this at the heart of my educational belief I will be working alongside the experienced senior leadership team and colleagues to explore the curriculum and pastoral systems to ensure we are achieving these objectives in the best way we can. We have a number of exciting plans for the rest of this academic year and into 2022/2023 but we will limit the number of significant changes for the near future. I will be an approachable and visible Headteacher, and over the coming months I look forward to getting to know the views and opinions of parents, harnessing your continued support, in the best interests of our school. I look forward to working with you all. Aston Smith We have been made aware of an incident on the way home from school this week. Below is a reminder from Bromley Youth Police Team on how children can keep themselves safe in the community. Please talk to your son/ daughter about staying safe on the way to and from school. • Try not to walk alone – find a friend to walk with. • Do not walk down a lane or unlit road that isn’t busy with traffic or pedestrians for a short cut. Take a longer route which is safer. • Run, yell and tell. If you are approached by someone and don’t feel safe start to run, yell loudly at the same time and head towards where there are people such as shops. • Safe places include shops, schools, libraries, restaurants, take away shops, stations and bus stops where people are waiting. • Speak to an adult you know, if you have concerns about your safety. • Do not walk around with headphones in and a phone out on display. • Call police on 999 in an emergency. Access to Satchel: One If you son/daughter is having difficulty accessing Satchel: One since the holidays, for example if they have downloaded the APP on to a new or different phone or tablet, please see below the message that was in the Link just before the Christmas holidays: As you may remember from a previous Link, we have changed the login details for students to access Satchel: One so they can now use their o365.cdarwin.com e-mail address and password to access their homework account. All students should know their e-mail address and password and should have them written on the password page of their planner. This is also the e-mail address and password to access online learning through Onedrive/Microsoft Teams. The guidance on how to use these details to log in to Satchel: One is attached with this Link. If your son/daughter does not know their login details, they should e-mail their form tutor who will be able to provide it for them or can contact me on LKe@cdarwin.com. Parents wishing to access their children’s homework who have not yet set up an account can also contact me on the email above. Students who are currently accessing their homework through their parent’s account will not have full access, for example will not be able to complete quizzes or submit tasks, so should log in to their own account by following the instructions given.
