range of stellar Named Lectures and Panel Presentations, cutting-edge Scientific
Sessions, unique hands-on and didactic learning opportunities, and discussions
Dr. Neumayer

access to your peers.
The Clinical Congress 2018 program addresses essential clinical and nonclinical content.
Eleven Named Lectures will be delivered by renowned faculty. Fifteen Didactic Courses and
14 Skills Courses will be offered. More than 115 Panel Sessions will be offered. The Scientific
Forum will include exciting surgical research presentations and e-Posters. Video-Based Education
Sessions will showcase important surgical procedures. Also, Meet-the-Expert Sessions and Town

Stop the Bleed®: Bleeding Control Basic and Instructor Course
Monday–Wednesday, October 22–24
Studies have shown that the help given by an immediate responder can often make the
difference between life and death, even before professional rescuers arrive. The Bleeding
Control Basic Course gives participants the necessary tools to become an empowered
initial responder.
This course is designed to train individuals on what to do as an immediate responder in a
bleeding emergency and covers the ABCs of bleeding as a method to stop an active bleed.
The course includes a class presentation and hands-on skills demonstration on tourniquet
application, wound packing, and pressure application. At the conclusion of the course, participants will receive tips on how to present
the materials, and ways to
provide a positive learning experience when teaching a Bleeding Control Basic course will be discussed.
The course will be held during the following dates and times:
Monday, October 22: 2:30–4:00 pm and 4:15–5:45 pm
Tuesday, October 23: 8:00–9:30 am, 9:45–11:15 am, 2:30–4:00 pm, and 4:15–5:45 pm
Wednesday, October 24: 8:00–9:30 am and 9:45–11:15 am
How the Government Is Impacting the Practice of Surgery and Your Bottom Line
Monday, October 22 | 1:15–2:15 pm
The session will provide an in-depth analysis of the key economic issues that impact surgical practice being debated
on the federal and state levels. Issues such as reducing administrative burdens and regulations and the payment policies
for Medicare and private payors will be discussed. This session will be moderated by Gary L. Timmerman, MD, FACS,
and co-moderated by Brian J. Gavitt, MD, MPH, FACS.
