WELCOME LETTER
Dear colleagues,
This year, the congress will not be like the ones before. The Covid pandemic, the unprecedented financial
crisis and recently the catastrophic explosion of the port have impacted our lives in ways we haven’t
experienced before. If we are somehow managing to deal with the financial difficulties and the challenges
associated with COVID, we are still mourning the destruction of the heart of Beirut and the human
casualties. Many of our colleagues, nurses and hospitals have been severely impacted and our hearts and
thoughts are with them.
Despite this unprecedented situation and the psychological and physical challenges, we decided to
continue to drive life forward and hold the congress in 2020, with the cooperation of the AFU, EAU, AUA and
AAU and the support of many pharmaceutical companies.
The congress this year will last for two days, beginning with the « journee francophone », with topics and
symposiums treating the everyday practice, followed the second day by EAU and AUA lectures, and a round
table on prostate cancer. A pediatric Urology session will be also presented by two lebanese pediatric
urologists.
As you would expect, the congress will be somehow original this year with COVID. We will meet face to face
in Beirut, of course with social distancing and all the sanitary and hygiene precautions. Some international
speakers will give their presentations virtually with live transmission. Others will be with us here in person.
I hope this congress will play a role in bringing us together and reinforcing our will and hope for a better
tomorrow.
