1. Vaccination update
Over 90% of border and MIQ frontline staff have received their first vaccination dose and
20% have already received their second dose.

The government agencies working on the border response and indeed all New Zealanders thank you for
your commitment to safeguarding the supply chain and the health of all Kiwis. Thank you also for
providing details of your household contacts. At the moment we have over 18,000 household contacts in
the system and some have already received their first dose.

Attached to this week’s update is a pack for employers to help engage with staff who are still unsure
about receiving the vaccination. This will help workers see the benefits associated with the vaccine and
address some of the misinformation being spread within the community.

We’ve had reports that some workers have refused the vaccination as they feel there are others in the
community who should receive it before them. While this is an admirable stance, we urge everyone who
is eligible to receive the vaccination, to take it up when offered. Once the vaccine is taken out of climate
controlled storage to the vaccination centre, it has a relatively short life before it has to be discarded so
please make sure you get your first and second dose of the vaccine.

If you haven’t received an invitation to receive a vaccination and believe you should have, call Healthline
 on 0800 28 29 26.

Remember, continue to wear PPE and undergo regular testing as well as practice physical distancing
where possible and continue to disinfect your hands and sneeze/cough into our elbows. Being
vaccinated does not mean COVID-19 is something we can forget about.

If you have any questions, please send them to MNZCovid-19@maritimenz.govt.nz. These can include
any challenges or barriers to staff getting vaccinated that you are aware of.

For more information go to the Ministry of Health website at https://www.health.govt.nz/ or the Unite
 Against COVID-19 website at https://covid19.govt.nz/.

The Maritime Industry Update is issued weekly, usually in the second half of the week. However,
publication days might change when there is a need to provide a quick update.

If you have any questions about updates, or suggestions for what you would like included, please
contact Maritime NZ by emailing MNZCovid-19@maritimenz.govt.nz.

2. Important vaccination roll out
    information
The initial rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine is for all border and MIQ workers covered by the
current Required Testing Order, and their household contacts.

This applies to all workers currently undergoing mandatory COVID-19 testing as part of their work.
If you or your employees are not part of this group, please do not present yourself for vaccination at this
 point.

If you are part of the priority vaccination group for border workers, please ensure that you are compliant
with your testing obligations under the Required Testing Order.

There is a vaccination roll out plan in place and you can visit covid19.govt.nz to find out when you will be
 vaccinated.

3. Changes to the MIQ system
There are some changes taking place within the MIQ system.

As announced on 2 March, The MIQ fees for temporary entry class visa holders will increase with effect
25 March, and will be raised from $3100 to $5520 for the first person, $950 to $2990 for an additional
adult and $475 to $1610 for an additional child.

The MIQ fee for foreign maritime crew entering New Zealand on a temporary visa for the purpose of
a crew change, and requiring a stay at a managed isolation facility will not increase from its current
 rate.

In addition, from 1 June, the length of stay that New Zealanders must be in the country to not be liable
for MIQ fees will extend from 90 days to 180 days.

From 25 March, any New Zealander who is returning to New Zealand for more than 90 days (if they arrive
before 1 June), or 180 days (if they return after 1 June) will continue to not be liable to pay fees for their
 MIQ stay.

Please contact Maritime NZ on MNZCovid-19@maritimenz.govt.nz if you require clarification on any of the
 information above.

4. Updated PPE guidance
Maritime NZ is working with the Ministry of Health, including the Infection Prevention Control
team, on the updated PPE guidance document.

It will outline how to take reasonable steps to minimise an outbreak and spread of COVID-19 by wearing
the right kind of personal protective equipment as well as directions on how to wear it correctly.

It is anticipated that the guidance will be published in early April.

5. COVID-19 port signage
A few weeks ago, we mentioned that signage would soon be available for a ship’s master
to display when the vessel is under isolation or quarantine.

The signage will help people at the port clearly identify which vessels are still in isolation or quarantine,
and which vessels may safely be approached. This signage must be clearly visible and secured at the
place where the ship is berthed.

Maritime NZ, the Ministry of Health and New Zealand Customs Service have been finalising the signage
required to be displayed and this has just been approved by the Director General of Health.

The government agencies working at the maritime border will then look to distribute the signs to the ports
 once they have been produced.

The Ministry of Health is also reviewing who will be responsible for placing and maintaining these signs
and more information will be available soon as to who will fulfil this role.
