Delegates Report
Introduction

It is my pleasure as Delegate for CSHP-NL Branch to bring you updates from the recent
board meetings and AGM in Winnipeg October 17th to 20th, 2018.

CSHP Projects & Member Benefits

Excellence in Hospital Pharmacy Program
  • The member and patient survey for the Excellence program has been completed. The
results were released in August 2018 and are available on the CSHP website. The
program is now in the process of developing stepwise targets for Excellence Priority
Measures. They will provide development tools and services to assist members in
     achieving these targets.
  • The excellence program has also released a new newsletter, the Excellence Express it
can be viewed on the CSHP website.
  • The Excellence Committee will be having two plenary sessions at PPC 2019.

Choosing Wisely
  • 184 statements were submitted by members, the Excellence Committee narrowed this
down to 17 drug based and 14 practice statements. A member survey was then
completed to choose the top 5 recommendations. From the survey there have been 7
proposed recommendations. The next step is to communicate with choosing wisely
    and make changes if necessary.

Upcoming Events
  • PPC will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2019. It will be held from February 2-5, 2019
at the Hilton in Toronto, Ontario.
  • New this year- the conference will be streamed by distance.
Publications & Communications

Advocacy
• There have been consultations with the Special Access Program - expect changes
  to make pharmacist duties easier!

into effect in 2019. CSHP has reviewed the draft regulations and has provided
  feedback.
• Medical Management Standards for Health Standards Organization (Similar to
Accreditation Canada) - feedback has been provided from CSHP board and its
  members.
Response to the opioid crisis
• As part of our commitment to the Joint Statement of Action to Address the
National Opioid Crisis, our opioid diversion guidelines are drafted and almost
  finalized.

Canadian Medication Optimization Briefing
  • These are two page peer reviews that are meant to be a quick reference for
    pharmacist.
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship was released in 2017 and two more are in
development (Cannabis and Opioids at transitions of Care). A webinar will be
    developed to accompany each release.

CSHP Operations

Finances
   • Budget from 2017-2018 closed April 30th, 2018. The planned deficit was $118,600 however the
actual deficit was $138,798, which was mainly due to decreasing membership.
   • This year’s predicted deficit is $310,000. This is again is due to decreasing membership and
decreased revenue from PPC. The board is working aggressively on program review and
membership strategy to try and maintain the budget.
   • The membership and recruitment strategy has been developed to increase membership. Four
working groups have been created to work on a marketing plan to promote member benefits,
welcome package for new members, developing a personalized approach to contacting
members who have not renewed, and investigating ways to ease the perceived cost of high
membership. This working group currently consist of board members; however general
members may have the opportunity to volunteer. Members can contact the delegate if they are
      interested.
   • The reserve target for CSHP is 50%. There will be a policy developed for setting targets for
branch reserve within the next year.

PPC revitalization & Strategic Program Assessment
  • The board is currently undertaking full strategic program assessment of all educational offerings
      and programs.
  • Investigating holding a joint conference APES (Quebec) in Montreal in future.

Strategic Plan Update
   • Strategic Planning session planned for fall 2019 for the 2020 strategic plan.

  • The Executive Director Position has been renamed to CEO.
  • CSHP appoints Jody Ciufo as CEO, as Myrella Roy has retired in December 2018.

Advocacy Corner

     CSHP provided feedback on the
regulations amending the Food and Drug
    Regulations with regard to serious
   adverse drug reaction reporting in
hospitals. CSHP members were invited to
    contribute their comments to this
     feedback. The feedback will be
processed and revisions will be published
  around June 2019. Common themes
   included concern around increased
workload, need for an efficient reporting
system, perceived value for effort, and
         option of a pilot project.
