Yungaburra Students shining at High School
Congratulations to Atherton State High School on your recent Presentation Evening.

Past Yungaburra Students from all year levels, were well represented on the night receiving various sporting, academic, merit and subject prize
awards.

At the beginning of 2018, 16 students from Yungaburra State School transitioned to ASHS as Year 7 students.

Of these 16 students:
 5 received an Academic Excellence Prize (25% of the total prizes given). Given that Yungaburra Students represent only 10% of total
Year 7 student cohort, this is an incredible result!
 11 of the 16 past Yungaburra students received a Merit Award.
 Special mention to the following past and present Yungaburra Students:
Our current Year 6 students, Sam Gould and Ben Howard – 2019 Year 7 ASHS Bursary Award Winners
Riley Vallance (YSS - Year 7 Student, 2014) – ASHS School Captain for 2019
Callum Irvine (YSS – Year 7 Student, 2013) – Outstanding School Based Apprentice Award
       Winner
Eliza Tolley (YSS – Year 6 Student 2014) – ADFA Long Tan Leadership Award Winner

2018 Leaders – TEEC
Congratulations to our School Captains who show cased all the wonderful work they have done in
their roles this year at the TEEC Environmental Centre on Monday.

Student Leaders from across our Tablelands schools shared their work and experiences with each
other.

Sprays Bad for The Reef
Some of you may have seen this week’s Tablelander with an article on page 4 about the research that Tessa Freeman is conducting about the
impact of chemicals found in sunscreens on the Great Barrier Reef.

Tessa (Yungaburra Year 5 student) will be presenting her important and fascinating work on Monday night at Atherton High School. Tessa has
been part of the Tableland School’s Science and Sustainability Enrichment Program conducted through TEEC. Well done Tessa.

Logan Brind-House will be participating in this program in 2019. Congratulations Logan.

Inclusive Education Update
Greetings parents and guardians for this mid-term update. Students have settled back into classes and are into
their weekly routines again while we head rapidly towards the end of the year. Support plan meetings will also
be happening in the next few weeks so transition goals can be discussed for next year. This term there has been
a new ‘Kit-Kat Club’ in my room in the library every Friday first lunch. This is where any students can ‘have a
break’ and construct model kits away from the noisy playground in a small group setting. I demonstrate and
supervise the building of plastic model kits which develops student’s skills at reading and following instructions,
helps their fine motor skills and also makes them build up their patience levels while having fun with this niche
hobby. They are finding building model kits a bit more challenging than the much easier and popular Lego kits!
Have a good weekend!
