AZIENDA AGRICOLA GIAVI (CONEGLIANO)
Named after Francesco Giavi who acquired the estate in 1914, Giavi has long been an ultra
reliable producer of DOCG Prosecco for us. The vineyards are located on the hill of Monticella
overlooking the town of Conegliano. Their wines have gone from strength to strength over the
last few years and they have now taken the positive step of introducing organic farming, so
there are more good things to come!

CANTINE RUSSO (ETNA)
The Russo family started winegrowing two centuries ago. Until 1955 they were only grape
growers. Then Don Ciccio decided together with Vincenzo, his son and the current owner of
the estate, to produce and bottle wine themselves. The vineyards are located on the northeast
side of Mt Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano. For their line of sparkling wine, they use only
native varietals and vinify them using the traditional Champagne method.

DOMAINE D'ORFEUILLES (LA-CROIX-BLANCHE, VOUVRAY)
Paul Herivault founded the estate in 1947. At that time, the Domaine was based in an old
outbuilding of a medieval castle, which, sadly, does not exist anymore. The current owners,
Bernard Herivault and his son Arnaud, cultivate 20 hectares of Chenin Blanc grown on clay and
limestone, with a high density of Silex. Their two sparkling wines are vinified in the traditional
Champagne method.

LIEBART-REGNIER
This family winery was founded in 1960 by the marriage of Lucien Liébart and Georgette
Régnier and the joining together of their two vineyards from different parts of the Marne
Valley. Now the third generation is producing Champagne from their homegrown and
handpicked grapes. While not yet organically certified, the domaine has been awarded the
Haute Valeur Environnementale certificate, one given to farms relating to biodiversity, pest
management, and water resources. These are hand-made, focused, elegant Champagnes.

DOMAINE SAINTE BARBE (VIRÉ)
Jean-Marie Chaland founded Domaine Sainte Barbe in 1999. He organically farms eight
hectares of Chardonnay in and around Viré-Clessé, achieving certification in 2006. There are
very old vines here, as 75% of his holdings are over 50 years old, with those in the “Thurissey”
climat being over 90. Jean-Marie is a terroir guy, making no less than four separate bottlings
of Viré-Clessé, all exceptional.

DOMAINE ST. REMY (WETTOLSHEIM)
Winemaking in the Ehrhart family dates back to 1725 and their vineyards now cover 23
hectares. They have farmed organically for two generations, and became certified organic in
2010. In 2012 they began conversion to biodynamic farming as well, and are now certified as
such by Demeter. Their wines have won numerous international awards, and more
importantly, Philippe and Corinne Ehrhart are two of the most delightful people in our entire
portfolio of producers!

CHATEAU DE RAOUSSET (CHIROUBLES)
Located in the village of Chiroubles, Ch. de Raousset dates back to the 1850s, and was noted
for its award winning wines as far back as 1869. Their 35 hectares of vines are spread over
the Crus of Chiroubles, Morgon, and Fleurie. All their cuvées are produced from individual
climats. All grapes are hand harvested, fermentation is semi-carbonic, and aging is done in
cement tanks in their temperature-controlled cellar. Truly distinctive wines here.

BEAUJOLAIS
PIERRE SAVOYE (MORGON)
A winery, which was handed down from father to son since 1852 and was always based on
the Côte du Py climat in the Morgon Cru. The Côte du Py, a land with a special soil rich in iron,
produces wines wines a wide range of flavors, and Savoye's wines are beautifully fruit-driven,
with the minerality and complexity for which this famed site is known.

CHATEAU COUTET (BARSAC)
An English fortress, built in the 13th century, Coutet became a wine producing estate in 1643.
Previously owned by the Lur-Saluces family, the property was home to Chateau d'Yquem's
horse stables, transformed in the late 19th century into a cellar. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson,
then ambassador to France, celebrated Château Coutet as the best Sauternes from Barsac.
"Opalie" is Coutet's dry white, very limited in production, only around 250 cases annually.

Chateau Puy Servain and Chateau Calabre are two wine estates of Daniel and Catherine
Hecquet. We've known Daniel and have been importing his wines since the very early days of
Robert Kacher Selections. He is a meticulous farmer and has long provided us with honest,
tasty wines at ridiculously low prices.

CHATEAU LE TERTRE RÔTEBOEUF / ROC DE CAMBES (ST. EMILION)
Tertre Rôteboeuf has existed since the mid-18th century, but it was just called Le Tertre until
1978, when François Mitjavile and his wife inherited it from her father. They changed the
name to “Le Tertre Rôteboeuf”, what means “hill of the belching bullock”, wanting his
property to be unique, which is fitting as François himself is a true original who makes wine
like no other in the commune. The wine is always tremendously scented, spicy and opulent
with the ability to age for many years. Roc de Cambes was acquired by the Mitjaviles in 1987.
Though it is only a Côte de Bourg, the terroir is very similar to that of Le Tertre Roteboeuf, and
is considered by most critics as the leading estate in the Bourg.

A family estate from Burgundy for many generations, which is now cultivating 20 hectares. In
1988, Martin took over the estate with his sister and his nephew Pierre is running the business
together with them. The soil management is very traditional and gentle, as they work with old

GABRIEL BILLARD (POMMARD)
The esteemed Claudie Jobard (discussed later) is the 8th generation of her family to be
caretaker of the Billard domaine. It was was run for 20+ years by Claudie's mother (and
mentor) Laurence, and aunt. With only two hectares, there's not much of any wine. Most
years there are just a handful of barrels of each. But what expressive wines they are.

The family has been making wine in Meursault for seven generations. Michel's son, Jean-

SÉBASTIEN DAMPT (MILLY, CHABLIS)
The Dampt family have been vignerons for more than 150 years. After gaining a lot of
practical experience in Sancerre, Nuits St. Georges, and even Australia, Sébastien took over
seven hectares of the Chablis vineyards from his father, Daniel Dampt, in 2005. He connects
the traditional winemaking with modern equipment, such as thermo-regulated tanks and a
new concrete “egg” – in which he vinifies his Chablis 1er Cru "Beugnons."

CLAUDIE JOBARD (DEMIGNY)
As mentioned above, Claudie manages the family vineyard in Pommard. Not only that, but
she is also the winemaker at the fine négoce Remoissenet Père et Fils. It is her eponymous
domaine though, that is her baby. She began farming 20 hectares of Rully in 2002. Both her
Rully Blancs and her Rully Rouge really deliver tremendous value. She is able to make
Burgundies both transparently mineral, and fruit driven. We always buy the maximum
quantity available.

GILLES LAFOUGE (AUXEY DURESSES)
Gilles Lafouge has for many years been quietly producing some impeccably made Burgundies.
Gilles is related by marriage to Jean Baptiste Bouzereau, and perhaps if he were located in
neighboring Meursault like his brother-in-law, instead of in the difficult to pronounce village
of Auxey-Duresses, he would have more fame. There are lots of old vines here, and minimal
use of new oak; and as Auxey’s microclimate is cooler than its neighbors, the wines generally
have healthy acid levels and an old school charm.

FRANÇOIS LAMARCHE (VOSNE ROMANÉE)
Since 1797 their vineyards, on the prestigious terroirs of Vosne-Romanée and Clos Vougeot,
have offered the wines their precious fruit. From these terroirs, spreading over 11 hectares,
they produce fourteen different wines, including the supernal La Grande Rue, a monopole of
the estate, one of the greatest Grand Crus in Burgundy. Nicole Lamarche has been in control
of the winemaking since the 2007 vintage. She has taken the estate from having what was
already a fine reputation to that of the very top echelon of Burgundy producers.

SYLVAIN LANGOUREAU (GAMAY – ST. AUBIN)
Sylvain Langoureau took over this domaine in 1988. Though he own vines in Puligny and
Chassagne Montrachet, and Meursault, it is Saint-Aubin where he has established his bona
fides, making no less than seven different cuvées. We tend to stick to our favorite two 1er
Crus, and also adore the honest lightness of Sylvain's Haute Côtes red.

STEPHANE MAGNIEN (MOREY ST. DENIS)
Situated in the village of Morey St. Denis, Magnien's vineyards cover 4.5 hectares. This small
family estate has respected traditional viticultural methods for four generations. The family
house and the original cellars date back to 1789. Stephane's winemaking is traditional and he
eschews the overuse of new oak, preferring to let his wines show their stuff unadorned with
toast and vanilla. From the nearly century old vines in his Chambolle Musigny AC to his top-
notch 1er Cru parcels in Morey and Chambolle, to his pitifully small Grand Cru holdings in Clos
St. Denis and Charmes Chambertin, Stephane certainly has enviable real estate on which to
work his prodigious winemaking talents.

CHÂTEAU DE LA MALTROYE (CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET)
Jean Pierre Cornut took over the estate from his father in 1993, and we began working with
him not long after that, so more than 20 years now, something we are quite proud of. The
domaine is located in a gorgeous 18th century Chateau in Chassagne-Montrachet. The 14
hectares covering vineyards are spread out over 10 different Premier Crus and one of them is
their monopole vineyard, the "Clos de Château." This vineyard is planted equally to Pinot Noir
and Chardonnay, but the grape varieties are not separated in different parcels, they are mixed
up with few rows here and there. Jean-Pierre, who took over this estate from his father in
1993, cultivates the vines organically, but keeps the right to do a treatment against rot at the
end, if necessary.

ALAIN MICHELOT (NUITS ST. GEORGES)
Located in the heart of Nuits-Saint-Georges, the Domaine Alain Michelot cultivates 7.5
hectares of vineyards over Nuits-Saints-Georges and 0.5 hectares over Morey-Saint-Denis.
More than half of their vineyards are Premier Crus. The property dates back to the end of the
19th century. It is now the fourth generation leading this winery and the fifth generation,
Alain’s daughter Elodie, is now making the wines. She makes forceful, ageworthy Nuits,
always slow to unwind, and always worth the wait.

ALBERT MOROT (BEAUNE)
This venerable estate began as a négoce in 1820. The winery was always handed down to the
next generation – to daughters, as well as to sons. Since 2000 Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry and
his wife, Marie-Odile, have run the domaine. The vines have an average age of 40 years, some
significantly older. After some experimentation, Geoffroy began the conversion to organic
viticulture in 2009, and became certified in 2015. These are classical, expressive Burgundies
that reward cellaring every bit as much as far more expensive examples.

DOMAINE PARENT (POMMARD)
Anne and Catherine represent the twelfth generation at their family’s estate and the first with
a woman in charge. "The new French revolution," as Anne calls it! Anne makes the wine while
Catherine handles the commercial side of the winery. Anne is a big believer in organic
viticulture and the winery was certified organic in 2013, and also follows the rules of the
biodynamic agriculture. Domaine Parent itself was founded in 1803 in the heart of Pommard,
but the family can trace its winemaking heritage back to the beginning of the 17th century. In
fact, in 1787 Etienne Parent established a friendship and working partnership with a certain
wine lover named Thomas Jefferson, then Minister to France, thus becoming a precursor the
exportation of Burgundy wines to the US.

PAUL PERNOT (PULIGNY MONTRACHET)
Paul Pernot is one of the grands chefs in all of Burgundy. He took over the estate in 1955 and
is gradually turning over the domaine to his two sons, Paul and Michel. They cultivate vines
over 20 hectares, of which 15 hectares are in Puligny, including Premier Crus and Grand Crus.
With so much land, one would think there is a lot of wine available, but they still sell about
80% of their grapes to fortunate negociants. The other 20%, which they bottle themselves,
comes only from the very best parcels. Still not enough to satisfy the global demand, sadly.

PHILIPPE PERNOT-BELICARD (PULIGNY MONTRACHET)
Philippe has worked for his grandfather, the famous Puligny legend Paul Pernot, for many
harvests, but has now branched out on his own having the further good fortune of marrying
into a family of winegrowers with holdings in both Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault.
Philippe and his wife farm over 6 hectares of them in 9 different climats. In the cellar,
Philippe likes to use 4 different barrel coopers, finding favor in the variety of flavors that they
bring to his wines. Stylistically they are different from the wines of grand-père, quite sleek
and with piercing minerality.

DOMAINE SAINTE BARBE (VIRÉ)
Jean-Marie Chaland founded Domaine Sainte Barbe in 1999. He organically farms eight
hectares of Chardonnay in and around Viré-Clessé, achieving certification in 2006. There are
very old vines here, as 75% of his holdings are over 50 years old, with those in the “Thurissey”
climat being over 90. Jean-Marie is a terroir guy, making no less than four separate bottlings
of Viré-Clessé, all exceptional.

hidden corner of the region, providing us a source of great values, including the formerly
obscure AOC of Saint-Bris, the only Sauvignon Blanc produced in Burgundy.

Dominique Naudet is a meticulous farmer and makes wines that demonstrate why Sancerre is
so beloved and has such far-reaching popularity. Always fresh and aromatic without

Verdigny, and several other villages that make up the Sancerre AOC. Perhaps that's why his
wines seem so classicly Sancerrois.

DOMAINE DES CORBILLIERES (OISLY)
Founded in 1923 in the village of Oisly, the Domaine des Corbillières has been a family estate
for four generations and is currently run by Dominique and Veronique Barbou. As they are
members of the sustainable agriculture network “Terra Vitis”, they avoid chemical fertilizers,
use only organic matter and keep their yields very low through strict debudding.
Sauvignon Blanc covers two-thirds of their 28 hectares, the rest planted with Gamay,
Cabernet Franc, Côt (Malbec), Pinot Noir and Pineau d'Aunis, the latter being used for their
very fine Rosé.

DOMAINE D'ORFEUILLES (LA CROIX BLANCHE)
Paul Herivault founded the estate in 1947. At that time, the Domaine was based in an old
outbuilding of a medieval castle, which, sadly, does not exist anymore. The current owners,
Bernard Herivault and his son Arnaud, cultivate 20 hectares of Chenin Blanc grown on clay and
limestone, with a high density of Silex. Their two sparkling wines are vinified in the traditional
Champagne method.

Domaine des Aspras is located in the Provençal village of Correns. What makes Correns unique
is that the entire village is BIO. It was the first village in France to become so, which means
that everyone farms organically and the community has agreed to pursue sustainability in
everything they do. Proprietor Michael Latz is also the Mayor of Correns. Michael’s parents,
Lisa and Gottfried established the winery in the 1960’s, and they now farm 25 hectares.

father and son, began domaine-bottling their wine. Nearly three decades later, with Albert
retired, Philippe is running the domaine and his son Guillaume is being groomed to join the
family business. Robert Parker has written that Belle “has long been one of my favorite
estates since I first tasted their wines.” We have been importing Belle's seriously good
northern Rhônes for over 25 years.

DOMAINE DE FONDRECHE (MAZAN – VENTOUX)
Sébastien Vincenti first apprenticed under Châteauneuf master André Brunel, and his first two
vintages were made in Brunel's cellar. Sébastien is developing into a near legend himself, and
his domaine is, for most critics, the gold standard for Ventoux wines. The vines are grown on
a plateau that flanks Mount Ventoux. It really is a prime location for the growing of grapes,
especially Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.” Early on, Sébastien became interested in the
principle of sustainable farming. He farmed organically and adopted many of the ideas of
biodynamic farming. Not one to conform, he recently withdrew his organic certification after
becoming officially certified in 2009. We've heard many customer comments about their QPR
too, always a plus.

STEPHANE PICHAT (VERENAY – CÔTE ROTIE)
What a fortuitous decision it was to begin importing the wines from this "young Turk“ several
years ago, just before all the enthusiastic reviews started percolating among Rhône
cognoscenti. Domaine Pichat, though relatively new and unknown to a wider Rhône drinking
audience, has certainly gained a glowing reputation. Before Stéphane began making wine
from his family’s vineyards, they sold to the local co-op, to the likes of Guigal and Chapoutier.
Though Stéphane still sells a few barrels to the Perrin family, most of the production is now
domaine bottled. With only four hectares, the estate produces less than 2000 cases annually,
including the two Vin de Pays bottlings.

Tour de l’Isle’s Robert Rocchi has been involved with the wines of the southern Rhône for over
30 years. In 1991, he and his wife purchased a portion of his uncle’s vineyard, opened a retail
wine store and an old-fashioned wine bar, and the Tour de l’Isle brand was born. As their
retail business thrived, they decided to focus on expanding the brand, so they sold their
vineyard. Robert works closely with a few carefully selected producers that bottle cuvees for
him. 100% transparent, he lists each producer’s name on the back labels, and the wines come
in boxes marked by each individual producer.

Having purchased Domaine de la Petite Cassagne in 1998, Diane Puymorin changed the name
to d’Or et de Gueules, the local dialectal “red and gold”, a reference to the Puymorin family
crest. With the help of her husband Mathieu and their five daughters, she creates charming,
spicy reds, as well as vibrant rosés and whites from Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre,
Cinsault, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Rolle. The vineyards cover 50 hectares in the
southwest of Nimes in between St. Gilles and Générac. She has embraced organic farming
and is in conversion to organic certification. Diane has truly helped elevated the image of the
Costières de Nîmes with her intensely exuberant wines.

Welcome back, old friend! Wine industry vets may remember the days when we represented
the Robert Kacher Selections portfolio. The Costières des Nîmes was one of its great strengths
and Mas des Bressades was among the finest of the bunch, (as was d'Or et de Gueules
above). Cyril Marès is at the helm, having taken over from his father Roger in 1996 after stints
at Chalone Vineyards in California; in Chile working for Bruno Prats; and with the legendary
Paul Pontallier at Château Margaux. We're thrilled to say the Cyril's wines are now back in the
fold at The Wine House! Here are classical, beautifully made, fruit driven examples of the
classic Rhône varieties, red, white, and pink, and a sublime Cabernet-Syrah blend. Cyril has
been farming organically for many years, and though the labels don't yet show it, the estate is

FAMILLE ARBEAU (FRONTON)
Vignobles Arbeau is run by Anne Géraud Arbeau and her brother Géraud. It was founded in
1878 by the siblings’ great, great grandfather, Prosper. It was his grandson, Pierre, graduate
from the Superior Commerce School of Toulouse, who grew the company by expanding both
wine activity and that of the family’s distillery. The property, the impressive Chateâu Coutinel,
was acquired in 1920 and has been in the family ever since. The winery and the vineyards are
based in the AOP Fronton, a 20-minute drive north of Toulouse. The estate has become a
reliable source for us of wines from the southwest, and particularly for their specialty, the

AZIENDA AGRICOLA GIAVI (CONEGLIANO)
Named after Francesco Giavi who acquired the estate in 1914, Giavi has long been an ultra
reliable producer of DOCG Prosecco for us. The vineyards are located on the hill of Monticella
overlooking the town of Conegliano. Their wines have gone from strength to strength over the
last few years and they have now taken the positive step of introducing organic farming, so
there are more good things to come!

ERNESTO PICOLLO (ROVERETO, GAVI)
The Picollo family has been making wine for three generations, currently farming close to 8
hectares of vines in traditional fashion. The estate is located on the tiny slope of Rovereto,
which is within Gavi DOCG in southern Piedmont. Its proximity to the Ligurian Sea keeps
things cool at night bestowing the Cortese grapes with their lively acidity levels. The vineyards
face south and west and that goes a long way in getting the fruit ripe and in seamless balance.

AURELIO SETTIMO (LA MORRA, BAROLO)
In 1943 Aurelio's parents settled in the hamlet of Annunziata in an old farmhouse, built at the
end of the 19th century. They sold all their grapes to local wineries until the late 1950s, when
they started to bottle some wines themselves, and by 1974 they were completely estate
bottled. Aurelio's daughter is the seventh generation running the estate. The wines are made
traditionally, with lengthy fermentations on the skins, and aging in 2500 liter botte as well as
cement tanks. The single vineyard Rocche dell'Annunziata bottling of Barolo is a wonder; one
of the great wines of the region.

A chance meeting at a trade show a couple of years ago brought these wines to our attention,
and with one taste of their brilliant Ortrugo, it was only a matter of time until they got here.
After a visit to the winery last fall, it was a done deal. Cantine Bonelli is located just about
half way between Piedmont and Lombardy, in the Emilia-Romagna region of northeast Italy.
The family has been making wines since the 1940s. They produce a variety of white, red, and
sparkling wines, and we've begun with four of our favorites. They farm sustainably, and are in
the beginning phases of conversion to organic viticulture. Lovely wines, which show typicity of
both varietal and place.

CA' LOJERA (SIRMIONE, LUGANA)
Ca’ Lojera is located at the south shore of Italy’s gorgeous Lake Garda, west of Verona in the
Lombardy region. The winery grows 18 hectares of vineyards, planted with Turbiana,
Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Franco and Ambra Tiraboschi have been growing
grapes since the 1980s. They are a perfect partnership of opposites but united in bringing
attention to the quality of Lombardy wines.

TORRE ZAMBRA (VILLAMAGNA, ABRUZZO)
We just got lucky. We weren't looking for a producer from Abruzzo, but our primo Barolo
producer, Tiziana Settimo, was friends with a grower that she thought we would find
compatible with the others in our portfolio. She made the introduction, we tasted a thrilling
set of samples, and there was no looking back. The picturesque hills of Villamagna, with their
clay and limestone soils, are blessed with a unique microclimate, with both sea and mountain
influences. Beyond that, the winemaking is serious. Native yeasts, a combination of cement
tank and tonneau aging, dedicated farming. Gorgeous fresh whites, an irresistable quasi-
rosato Cerasuolo, and a series of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo that range from intensely
slurpable to gloriusly complex. Bravo!

TENUTA PIERAZZUOLI (CAPRAIA E LIMITE, CARMIGNANO)
The Pierazzuoli family has owned these two estates since 1970. They farm a total 200
hectares of olive groves and vineyards on the Tuscan hills between Florence and Vinci. The
vineyards, between 10 and 35 years old and spreading over 30 hectares, are planted with
mostly Sangiovese and a small part with Merlot and Syrah. A few years ago, they added one
hectare of Colorino to enhance a historic Tuscan native grape variety. Their newest bottling,
the "Il Fondatore," represents an impressive, though not unforeseen, leap in the level of
excellence of this fine estate.

CANTINE RUSSO (ETNA)
The Russo family started winegrowing two centuries ago. Until 1955 they were exclusively
growing grapes for others, then Don Ciccio decided together with Vincenzo, his son (and
current owner of the estate), to produce and bottle the wines themselves. The vineyards are
located on the North East side of Mount Etna, Europe’s largest active volcano. The different
volcanic substrata vary from one vineyard to another, which has an impact to the different
wines. We are particularly impressed with their white wines and their Champagne-like
sparkling wines, produced from the local varietals.

PORTUGAL
QUINTA DE SANTIAGO
Acting on a tip from Paolo Saturnino of Quinta do Alqueve, we first became acquainted with
Joana Santiago at a massive trade show in Germany, at which dozens of Viñho Verde
producers poured their wines. Guess which estate we liked best? The estate has been in
existence since 1899. They originally produced wine, olive oil, grains, and fruits for their own
consumption, and in 2009 they began to commercialize their wine production. They are
located in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço, where the pebbley clay-loam soil is
particularly well suited for the Alvarinho grape. These are wines with expressiveness and soul
and we are thrilled to be among their first US importers.
