Introduction to DyffrynGardens
From forlorn to fabulous, an ambitious
Edwardian garden revival
A peaceful oasis on the outskirts of Cardiff, Dyffryn Gardens covers more than
55 acres. The Edwardian gardens are undergoing an ambitious garden revival
project to restore them to their original splendor. With year-round seasonal
highlights the gardens feature the best woody collection in the National Trust.
Discover intimate garden rooms including the Pompeiian garden, Paved Court,
Reflecting Pool, and Mediterranean garden. The enormous great lawn is
bordered by seasonal bedding and a croquet lawn. There is also a large
glasshouse, statuary collection, and arboretum featuring trees from all over
the world.
Within the gardens, Dyffryn House, a grand Victorian mansion, overlooks the
key aspects of the gardens. Parts of the ground and first floors have been
restored and are unfurnished.

Things to see and do
Explore the gardens
The gardens at Dyffryn cover more than 55 acres. With intimate garden rooms, formal lawns, and an
extensive arboretum, there’s plenty for you to explore throughout the day. Over the next few years
the gardens are undergoing an ambitious revival to restore them to their original 1920s splendor.
Discover the house
Dyffryn House stands at the heart of the gardens and is a National Trust house with a difference. No
original belongings remain in the house, which has given us a great opportunity to do something
different. A few of the rooms have been furnished but with a twist. The family friendly house, with its
spectacular fireplaces and grand features, has been designed to be touched and has several
interactive elements.
Browse the books
We have two popular bookshops, where you’ll find a large collection of quality second-hand books.
All of the proceeds go towards vital conservation work in the house and gardens.
Shopping and plant sales
Pop into our shop to take home a beautiful or delicious memento of your day at Dyffryn. And of
course, browse our selection of seasonal plants, some of which were grown at Dyffryn, so you can
take a small piece of the gardens home with you.
Enjoy a taste of Dyffryn
A large portion of our produce comes directly from our Kitchen Gardens to be used in our cafes. We
have two cafes on site, which each have different seasonal opening times. Our opening times for all
areas of site can be found within this Guide, or just ask a member of our team.
