            Jerry Lokken Our recreation programs,
services, and facilities contribute to the quality of life for
people in our community. Our summer camps, open
gyms and recreation programs provide safe and super-
vised spaces for youth. Our recreation programs and
events provide social outlets and opportunity for people
to connect. Our programs and public spaces provide
opportunity for human interaction and contribute to
social equity because all citizens have access and oppor-
tunity to benefit from parks and recreation. Handi-
   capped-accessible facilities, affordable programming,
cultural and community events, social media presence
and direct mailed program guides are all examples East
Lyme’s effort to make our community a great place to live,
   work and play for everyone.

Looking ahead, the department is working on several
projects including the Darrow Pond Master Plan; rest-
room, water and playscape improvements in parks; and
capital improvements at athletic facilities, such as pro-
posed pickleball courts at Peretz Park at Bridebrook.

In the coming months, I hope to see you at one of the
many community events, programs, beaches, playing fields
   or in the Community Center.

   Yours in health and community,
   Jerry Lokken,
   Director

Beach Parking and Pavilion
                                          Rentals for 2023
We’ve made some changes to fees and rules for parking and pavilion rentals,
and we want customers to be aware so they can plan for summer 2023.

A major change for beach parking is our plan to have parking attendants on
duty until 7:00 pm each evening so seasonal or daily parking passes will be
required until that time. On event nights, the upper walk-in gate near the
VFW will allow attendees to walk into the park at no charge, starting an hour
before the event begins. Parking availability is on a first come/first served basis
and is expected to fill on concert nights.
