Retention / Promotion Decisions
Middle School: If a middle school student is being reviewed by the Retention Placement
Committee (formally Grade Placement Committee) and is at risk for being retained due to not
meeting the YES Prep Middle School Promotion standards guardians will be informed by Friday,
June 11th.
High School: High School Promotion, Placement and Retention decision will be made by the
campus and communicated to parents/guardians by June 11th. High school student who has
failed 1 or more semesters of a core class may be required to enroll in Summer Credit Recovery
to be promoted or placed into the next grade level. If successful completion of Summer Credit
Recovery is required for the student to be promoted or placed, a second parent/guardian meeting
will be held at the start of the 2021-2022 School Year to communicate final Retention and
Placement decisions based on successful completion of Summer Credit Recovery.
High School Credit Recovery: The YES Prep Credit Recovery Program is for students currently
enrolled in 9th – 12th grade and is designed to help students regain credits, persist, stay on-track
to graduate and go to college. Most core English, Math, Science, and Social Studies courses will
be offered. Foreign language courses will only be offered to Juniors and Seniors. YES Prep
Summer Credit Recovery will be offered virtually through the Edmentum PLATO Platform with a
YES Prep Staff member assigned to support your student virtual through Teams. Due to the
implications of COVID-19, this summer we will waive all Summer Credit Recovery fees and it will
be offered free of charged to students. Students must successfully complete the program by the
last day, June 25, to receive credit for the course. Failure to finish or earn a passing grade will
result in the student retaking the course next year and possible retention. More information will
follow for students that are registered.
• Date: Monday, June 7 – Friday, June 25
• Time: Office Hours provided by Credit Recovery Teachers will be communicated at the
start of the Program

AP Calculus Summer Assignment
1. I have added each of you to a new class on DeltaMath called 2021-2022 AP Calculus
and I have officially assigned the summer assignment.
2. The summer assignment will consist of four “Rounds” of skills-each Round contains
between 6 and 10 skills, and you can earn up to THREE points on each skill.
3. Completion of each Round will be worth an assessment grade; therefore, the whole
summer assignment will be worth FOUR assessment grades. Trust me, this is a
significant amount (25%) of your first semester grade! The assignment is due on the first
day of the school year: Monday, August 16th.
You should expect to spend a significant amount of time working on this assignment over the
course of the entire summer. Each “Round” will likely take you several hours to complete.
Please do not wait until August to work on this. I will be in touch throughout the summer to
check in. I will also be monitoring the completion on DeltaMath.
A.P. World History Summer Assignment 2021
Welcome to APWH! If you work hard during the next year, you will develop a sophisticated
understanding of the world’s history.
Who am I?
Hello everyone, I’m so excited to have you in my class! My name is Mr. Martinez and I will be
the World History and AP World History teacher next year. This will be my 2nd year teaching
and my 1st year teaching an AP course, so I promise to do my best to prepare you for the AP
World History exam.
A little bit about myself: I am originally from Galveston and graduated high school in 2016. I
then attended the University of Chicago where I studied political science for my major. My
previous jobs include working for political campaigns across the country, working in
immigration law offices, and tutoring English second language students. I have also gotten thechance to live in France and Mexico while attending university, so I have been lucky to say I have gotten to see parts of the world! Please feel free to reach out to me at any point this year if you have any questions about the assignment or about the class. I will be on teams but you can also reach me at jesse.martinez@yesprep.org Why summer work? There are three main reasons why I am assigning summer work: (1) To give you a chance to refresh the source analysis skills that you will need for next year, (2) To review key topics from world geography that are also covered in A.P. World History, and (3) To prepare you for the rigor of an AP course. AP classes are a great way to get college credit, but they are also more advanced than your average classes. You will be expected to put more work into this class, but you will also get a lot out of it! When is it due? TUESDAY AUGUST 17th Please reach out if you are having difficulty with technology or have another obstacle to completing the assignment and we can work together to find a solution and move the deadline if needed. Why should I do this assignment? (1) In order to remain registered for AP World History, you must complete the summer assignment. Failure to complete it means you will be enrolled in regular World History instead (2) It counts for a grade (3) It will help you be successful in the course (Most important reason!) I know summer work can be tedious, but the expectation for an AP course is for you to complete your assigned work. This shows me you are committed to the class and will be able to keep up with the work over the next year. What do I have to do? You only have to complete the tables provided. DO NOT WRITE FULL ESSAYS ON ANOTHER PAPER. Instead annotate the sources and fill out the questions. What do I do if I have questions? Email me at jesse.martinez@yesprep.org or send me a message on Teams. How long should this take? It should take about five hours. Please contact me if you have spent seven focused hours working on it and have not finished (Focused hours do not include doing work while watching T.V.!) Click on the this link for assignments.
A.P US History Summer Assignment Welcome to APUSH! If you work hard during the next year, you will develop a sophisticated understanding of the history of the United States. Why summer work? There are two main reasons why I am assigning summer work: (1) To give you a chance to refresh the source analysis skills that you will need for next year, and (2) To review key topics from world history that are also covered in A.P. U.S. History. When is it due? The summer assignment is due on Monday, August 23rd. Please reach out if you are having difficulty with technology or have another obstacle to completing the assignment and we can work together to find a solution and move the deadline if needed. Why should I do this assignment? (1) It will help you be successful in the course (Most important reason!) (2) It counts for a grade What do I have to do? Click on this link for assignments. AP Biology Summer Work 2021-2022 Welcome to AP Biology. You are registered to take or are interested in taking AP Biology next year and that’s why you are receiving this letter. Don’t worry. This may look a lot worse than it is. I just wanted to get you all the information you’ll need and address some common questions. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at sarah.stanley@yesprep.org. I hope you have a wonderful summer break!!! I know what you are thinking….why a summer assignment? AP Biology is a vigorous, yet manageable and rewarding class. In order to meet the demands of the curriculum it is necessary for you to complete some work before you come back in August. The College Board Objectives outline for AP Biology is broad and deep. We have the months of August-April to complete the curriculum. The AP testing is in May. In order to cover the entire curriculum we must dive into our learning during the summer months.

http://www.yesprep.org/student-handbook
The YES Prep Student Handbook includes all policies and information for students and families that is consistent from campus to campus across
YES Prep. It’s crucial that all YES Prep students and guardians are familiar with the Handbook and the information contained within it.
Individual Campus Supplements: Each campus will create their own Individual Campus Supplement to the YES Prep Student Handbook. This
supplement contains specific information to the campus your student attends. These supplements will be available on your campus’s website at
yesprep.org.
2021-22 Student Fees
Legal guardians should expect to pay various student fees throughout the year depending on the student’s participation in special programming. YES
Prep has worked to standardize student fees across campuses and ensure fees being charged to students are aligned with compliance expectations
and YES Prep philosophy.
These are some general parameters applied to student fees:
• Students will not be charged for materials that are required for class.
• Students will not be charged a fee for items that have no cost.
• Students will not be charged a fee for items or services that benefits staff members.
• Cost inflation should not be variable for items with a fixed cost. i.e. ID badges should cost the same at all locations
• Maximum cost formulas may never exceed base price + 2%.
• Student fees for specific activities may change from year to year because they are based on a percentage of cost. Campuses will communicate
specific fee amounts based on the parameters above as cost for items and programs are finalized.
These are some fees families should plan to pay throughout the next school year. Exact amounts will be shared with campuses as they are finalized.
This list is not exhaustive, and there may be fees not included below:
• Advanced Placement test fees (for 8-12 grade students taking an AP exam)
• Trip fees (may include day trips and/or overnight trips)
• Athletic fees (applicable to students who participate in athletic programming)YES Prep Atlas and Other Reading Materials The YES Prep Atlas is the scope of books, novels, short stories, and other readings students will be assigned to read each year in English classes. Skyward Family Access Login (https://skyward.iscorp.com/YESPrepTXStu) Dress Code YES Prep Public Schools believes in the power of community and school pride while also deeply valuing a student’s right to express their individuality without the fear of unnecessary discipline, body shaming, or the confines of gender norms. Students have the right to be treated equitably and dress code enforcement at YES Prep Public Schools will not create disparities, reinforce or increase the marginalization of any group, nor will it be unfairly enforced more strictly against a student because of racial identity, ethnicity, gender expression, sexual orientation, cultural or religious identity, household income, body size or type, or body maturity. The YES Prep dress code allows for individuality building and also allows for community building through optional campus-specific shirts and outerwear.
