How does Pope Francis invite us to enter into Lent?
In his message for Lent 2021, Pope Francis call us to “renew our faith, draw from the ‘living water’ of hope,
and receive with open hearts the love of God, who makes us brothers and sisters in Christ.” He reminds us
that our Lenten pillars of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving “make it possible for us to live lives of sincere
faith, living hope and effective charity.” Fasting helps us to grow in faith by allowing us to let go of
distractions and “opening the door to the One who comes to us…’full of grace and truth.’” Prayer allows
us to experience hope by letting it “[illuminate] the challenges and choices we face in mission.” Lastly,
almsgiving “enables us to view those in need as members of our own family, as friends, brothers or
sisters.” May this message give us encouragement as we continue our Lenten journey.
¿Cómo nos invita el Papa Francisco a entrar en Cuaresma?
En su mensaje para la Cuaresma de 2021, el Papa Francisco nos llama a que "renovemos nuestra fe,
saciemos nuestra sed con el ‘agua viva’ de la esperanza y recibamos con corazón abierto el amor de Dios
que nos convierte en hermanos y hermanas en Cristo." Nos recuerda que nuestros pilares cuaresmales de
ayuno, oración y limosna "nos permiten encarnar una fe sincera, una esperanza viva y una caridad
operante.” El ayuno nos ayuda a crecer en la fe, dejando ir las distracciones y abrir nuestro corazón a
Aquel que viene a nosotros ... 'lleno de gracia y de verdad.'” La oración nos permite experimentar la
esperanza al dejar que “[ilumine] los desafíos y las decisiones de nuestra misión ". Por último, la limosna
nos permite ver al necesitado “como un miembro de nuestra familia, amigo, hermano." Que este mensaje

Mary Leads Us to Jesus Even in Suffering
When God created Adam and Eve, all was in harmony. The first man and woman
were “very good” and in perfect union with God. And then the fall happened. Sin
entered the world and along with it, suffering. If suffering entered the world as a
consequence of sin, it might be expected that Mary, conceived without sin, would
experience life without it. But like her son Jesus, she willingly took on suffering
knowing that it was a necessary part of God’s plan for salvation. When she said
“yes” at the annunciation, she not only said “yes” to bringing the Son of God into
the world, but to all the sorrow that would come along with it. The sorrow of seeing her Son bear the
weight of the world’s sin even as the world mocked Him. But eventually this sorrow turned to joy, as her
Son redeemed humanity from the sin that breaks our union with God, making every “yes” worthwhile.
Now from Heaven, she continues to give us her Son. The gift of the rosary allows us to see Him through
her eyes. To contemplate the memories she kept in her heart of Jesus coming into the world, teaching us
His perfect ways, sacrificing His life on the cross, and defeating death at His resurrection. She invites us to
unite our own lives, including the suffering in it, to His so that we may also experience the joy of the
resurrection. During Lent, when we especially focus on Christ’s suffering, let us meditate on the Sorrowful
Mysteries and Mary’s Seven Swords of Sorrow, and accept the grace God wants to give us even in the
midst of difficulties.

Given by the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Brigid and traditionally prayed on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Introductory Prayer: My God, I offer you this rosary for your glory, so I can honor your Holy Mother, the Blessed
Virgin, so I can share and meditate upon her suffering. I humbly beg you to give me true repentance for all my
sins. Give me wisdom and humility, so I may receive all the indulgences contained in this prayer.

A Reflection from Mother Teresa
From a message to the Missionaries of Charity
“’I thirst,’ Jesus said on the Cross when Jesus was deprived of every consolation,
dying in absolute poverty, left alone, despised and broken in body and soul. He
spoke of His thirst - not for water- but for love, for sacrifice.
Jesus is God: therefore, His love, His thirst is infinite. Our aim is to quench this
infinite thirst of a God made man…
…Jesus wants me to tell you again…how much is the love He has for each one of you - beyond all what
you can imagine…Not only He loves you, even more - He longs for you. He misses you when you don’t
come close. He thirsts for you. He loves you always, even when you don’t feel worthy…Do you believe
it?...Why does Jesus say ‘I thirst’? What does it mean? Something so hard to explain in words -…’I thirst’ is
something much deeper than just Jesus saying ‘I love you.’ Until you know deep inside that Jesus thirsts
for you - you can’t begin to know who He wants to be for you. Or who He wants you to be for Him.”

María Nos Lleva a Jesús Incluso en el Sufrimiento
Cuando Dios creó a Adán y Eva, todo estaba en armonía. El primer hombre y la
primera mujer eran "muy buenos" y estaban en perfecta unión con Dios. Y
luego ocurrió la caída. El pecado entró en el mundo y con él, el sufrimiento. Si
el sufrimiento entro al mundo como consecuencia del pecado, cabría esperar
que María, concebida sin pecado, experimentara la vida sin él. Pero al igual que
su hijo Jesús, ella asumió el sufrimiento de buena gana sabiendo que era una
parte necesaria del plan de Dios para la salvación. Cuando dijo “sí” en la
anunciación, no solo dijo “sí” a traer al Hijo de Dios al mundo, sino a todo el
dolor que vendría con él. El dolor de ver a su Hijo cargar con el peso del pecado del mundo incluso
cuando el mundo se burlaba de Él. Pero finalmente este dolor se convirtió en gozo, ya que su Hijo redimió
a la humanidad del pecado que rompe nuestra unión con Dios, haciendo que cada "sí" valga la pena.
Ahora desde el cielo, ella sigue dándonos a su Hijo. El don del rosario nos permite verlo a través de sus
ojos. Dejándonos contemplar las cosas que guardaba en su corazón de la llegada de Jesús al mundo,
enseñándonos sus caminos perfectos, sacrificando su vida en la cruz y venciendo a la muerte en su
resurrección. Ella nos invita a unir nuestra propia vida, incluyendo el sufrimiento, a la de Él para que
también podamos experimentar el gozo de la resurrección. Durante la Cuaresma, cuando nos centramos
especialmente en el sufrimiento de Cristo, meditemos en los Misterios Dolorosos y las Siete Espadas de
Dolor de María, y aceptemos la gracia que Dios quiere darnos incluso en medio de las dificultades.

Oración para Iniciar: Dios mío te ofrezco este rosario para tu Gloria, en honor de tu Santísima Madre, la Virgen
Santa, para compartir y meditar en su sufrimiento. Te ruego con humildad que me ayudes a arrepentirme de
corazón de mis pecados. Dame sabiduría y humildad para que pueda recibir las indulgencias contenidas en esta
oración. Amen.

Reflexión de Madre Teresa
De un mensaje a las Misioneras de la Caridad
“’Tengo sed’, dijo Jesús en la Cruz cuando fue privado de todo consuelo,
muriendo en la Pobreza absoluta, abandonado, despreciado y roto en cuerpo
y alma. El hablo de Su sed - no de agua - sino de amor, de sacrificio.
Jesús es Dios: por tanto, Su amor, Su sed es infinita. Nuestro objetivo es saciar
esta sed infinita de un Dios hecho hombre.
Jesús quiere que les diga de nuevo…cuanto es el amor que Él tiene por cada una de ustedes - mas allá de
lo que anhela por ustedes. Él las echa de menos cuando no se acercan a El. Tiene sed de ustedes. Él
siempre las ama, incluso cuando no se sienten…¿Lo creen? ¿Por qué dice Jesús: ‘Tengo sed’? ¿Que
significa? Algo tan difícil de explicar con palabras…’Tengo sed’ es algo mucho mas profundo que si Jesús
dijera simplemente ‘Te amo.’ Hasta que no sepan en lo mas profundo de su interior que Jesús tiene sed
de ustedes - no pueden empezar a saber quien quiere ser Él para ustedes. O quien quiere Él que ustedes
sean para Él.”
Al continuar con la segunda parte de la Cuaresma, escribe tus propias
reflexiones. ¿Qué te está diciendo Dios en oración? ¿Cómo le está dando
sentido al sufrimiento que experimentas en la vida diaria y por tus sacrificios
personales de Cuaresma?
