The Newsletter of the Granite State BMW Riders

An independent club based in New Hampshire for people who are interested in
BMW motorcycles. You don’t have to own a BMW or be a resident of New
Hampshire to join us, but expect to be surrounded by people who own and enjoy
                              BMW motorcycles !

Well, I missed sending out some comments in January. I lapsed be-
cause in the distant past, when I first joined the club, newsletters were
not sent out in January and it takes a while for me to catch up some-
times. As it is February, that means the start of the Chinese New Year.
This is the annum of the Pig, so what better time to think about riding that
Hog!

Having said that, the Board will be meeting in March to schedule this
year’s locations to meet, greet and eat. So, stay tuned.

Oh, for those of you who don’t me, I’m Vince Chase and I just became
President of the Granite State BMW Riders, our good ol’ GSBMWR. I
live in Winchester, NH and I have two Beemers ,,, a 1995 R100R (the
last of the Airheads) and a 2004 R1200CLC (because I like to stretch out
my legs on a long trip and I’ve become addicted to cruise control).
Besides GSBMWR, I belong to Airheads, International BMW Riders and
Chromeheads. So, here’s a pic of me with my normal R100R, just to
ease the angst
of them who
believe that
Chromeheads
are those awful
folks with the
slightly flashed
anti-Beemer
Beemers and
those annoying
loud pipes.

For those who missed attending the BASH, we had an exciting presenta-
tion Jim and Bev Seipel were presented with Lifetime Membership to
the Granite State BMW Riders. Jim and Bev have performed a great
number of services for the club, especially putting together and bringing
the food for our Annual Picnic for many years. Therefore, it was an honor
for the Board to vote at the last Board Meeting that Jim and Bev should
become Lifetime Members with all the privileges that go with that nomi-
nation.

On a national note, the BMWMOA is a holding meeting in March in Sara-
toga Springs, NY for the Northeast regional clubs, particularly to discuss
the interactions of the MOA with local clubs. Louise Bendix and I will be
attending. Of the issues that were presented to the MOA, the one that is
of high important to the GSBMWR is the rally the MOA has recently
scheduled in Vermont on the same date as our Purity Spring Rally.
Feedback will be coming after that meeting.

As well as being President, I am also the Secretary. The Board dis-
cussed putting together the Membership Directory, which will, of course,
fall to the Secretary. The Membership Directory will most likely be a PDF
file. So, be sure your email address is up to date as the Membership
Directory should be sent out right after the membership renewals are
completed at the end of June.

In finale, 2018 was the 25th Anniversary of the Granite State BMW Rid-
ers. The Board has been thinking about a small memento (probably
wearable) for the occasion. The cost of fabrication and, also crucial,
distribution is being discussed. We’ll keep you appraised of how this de-
velops. But, most importantly will be the members getting back to the
Secretary (even if your membership is not due for renewal in 2019) so it
can be assured that the mementos are sent to the proper mailing ad-
dress, if it is decided to move forward with this effort.
WOW! Only 6 more weeks to Spring. So, keep that battery charged!

Happy Motorrading!
Vince

Tales From the Roadside
Late January is time for the club’s winter bash at the Red Blazer Restau-
rant in Concord, NH. It was a great time to visit and talk about club
ideas and riding plans for the 2019 season, share some good food, and
laugh over the annual Yankee Swap!

Jim and Bev Seipel were recognized for their many years of dedication
and support for the Granite State BMW Riders Club. Shown here is Jim
Seipel accepting the award from Louise Bendix.

The Yankee Swap always entertains, and shows a variety of gift-
wrapping styles.

There was no re-appearance of the dreaded “Mr. T”, but Chris Benda
illustrates that there are still surprises in store when the gang gets to-
gether! Maybe he will consider camping in Tennessee?

The 2019 BMWMOA rally is going to be held in Lebanon, Tennessee
and it is going to take place JUNE 13-16! No word yet on who is going,
but the proximity and timing makes it seem likely that we will have a
number of folks riding there—and avoiding at least some of the Laconia
rally crowd here in NH. BMWMOA has a special Early Bird price until
February 15—register (2) adults for only $99, but you gotta hurry!
