He may be a rookie on the 2018 grid, but Charles Leclerc’s single-seater
credentials are impressive. GP3 champion in 2016; F2 champion in 2017; First F1® Race
2006 Australian Grand Prix
Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) member; F1® testing experience with Ferrari;

and F1® practice outings with both Haas and Sauber. Monegasque

Barely into his twenties, it’s fair to say Leclerc is firmly on the fast track to 16 October 1997
success. Hailing from Monaco, he was inevitably exposed to F1 at a young
age, especially as his late father Herve was also a racing driver.
Leclerc first got behind the wheel when he wasn’t even five years old.
He made the step up to single-seaters in 2014 in the Formula Renault 2.0
Alps series. Success came quickly, with two wins in his first year, followed by
three podiums in the more competitive Formula Renault 2.0 Euro series.
His rise continued apace in 2016, when got his first taste of F1 machinery – a
day’s testing at Silverstone with Ferrari and no less than four FP1 practice
sessions with Haas. More importantly, he carried on winning – three times en
route to the GP3 title in his rookie season.
That trend continued in 2017, when he triumphed seven times to secure the
F2 crown in dominant style at his first attempt. There were further F1 tests
with the Scuderia and another four Friday practice outings, this time with the
Ferrari-powered Sauber team.
With Sauber strengthening their ties to Ferrari with an Alfa Romeo title
sponsorship deal for 2018, Leclerc won his first F1 race seat. His debut in
Melbourne saw Leclerc finish a competitive P13.

Before turning five, Robert Kubica knew he was made for racing. It wasn’t
long after that he started kart racing and won six Polish championship titles First F1® Race
2006 Hungarian Grand Prix
in just three years. No one was surprised when he quickly made his way into

Beginning his Formula 1® career in 2006 with BMW Sauber, Kubica began 7 December 1984
as a reserve driver and participated in his first race at the Hungarian Grand
Prix. Just two short years later, he won his first race with BMW Sauber at the
Canadian Grand Prix in 2008. He finished that year 4th overall for the World
Championship.
In 2011, Kubica suffered a horrific accident at a rally race, where he suffered
fractures to his elbow, shoulder and leg, losing huge amounts of blood in the
process.
A mere two years later, the Pole sat behind the wheel of a rally car and made
a stunning comeback, performing well over the next several years. After
