FROM THE DESK OF OUR CEO...
Dear MVSL Residents, Families, and Staff
Have you found yourself sitting in your favorite chair or sofa more than normal? Have you heard others
laughing but stayed away? Do you know what is going on at dinner or are you staying in your apartment?
We have all felt this at times and it is common for us to keep to ourselves more as we age, however, if you
are finding that your happiness level isn't what it once was, you need to make a change and make it quickly
no matter your age or circumstance. We are responsible for our own happiness, and we should want to get
the most out of life as we can. This is not a dress rehearsal! Seize the Day!
How, you ask? Here are some tips:
• Make the Decision - Decide that you want to LIVE your life to the fullest and enjoy every minute of it!
• Set Your Alarm or Get Up When You Wake Up - I know it sounds silly, you are retired, or it’s your day off,
so why would you set an alarm. Setting an alarm will help remind you that YOU have a purpose. You
want to wake up and get going with your day!
• Shower as soon as you get up or when the Shower Team arrives for you. Don’t make excuses not to
shower. A nice shower not only feels great, but it gets your brain going and prepares you to accomplish
something.
• Go to the Dining Room or eat outside… Don’t eat alone in your room. If you go to the dining room to eat,
you will meet other residents and enjoy their company. Making friends adds so much to your happiness!
• Have a Positive Attitude - If you believe that you are happy, happiness will find you. If you smile at others
and are positive, people will recognize this and want to bring happiness to you, as well.
• Be Grateful for your Blessings - Always having an attitude of gratitude will bring you even more blessings.
• Let the ones you love know you love them - People love knowing that they have made an impact in your
life. You should let those you care about know how you feel. They, in turn will show you how loved you
are!
• Remember, YOU DESERVE to be happy!
We love you and want you to have the BEST life possible!
Warmest Regards, MelissaCAMPUS NEWS
Help us keep MVSL Beautiful!
You may have noticed the flowers popping up along our driveway, please
remember to look but don’t touch! We want the flowers to bloom tall
and strong for all to enjoy!

Go for the Green!
Green means lots of heart-protective potassium and Vitamin K,
which aids the blood clotting process. Green fruits and veggies
also help to maintain vision health and strong bones and teeth.
Dark green, leafy vegetables have the highest concentration of
antioxidants and fiber.
Make a practice of trying different fruits and vegetables
throughout the year. Remember fresh, frozen, canned, and
dried; it all counts towards your healthy living goals!

FROM THE DESK OF OUR
CARE CENTER ADMINISTRATOR
Greetings everyone. Happy April!
Just a few FYIs this month:
During our recent covid outbreak, a lot of resident belongings had to be moved,
while we always want our residents to feel at home and have their personal items
near, sometimes they can become cluttered. Increased clutter is a risk for falls,
and also creates difficulty for our environmental services department to clean.
The season change is the perfect time to declutter! It is the perfect time to take
home the bulky winter clothes and bring out the spring clothing. You can also
take clothing that is worn, no longer fits, or that the resident does not wear. We
also ask that any food items be stored and labeled properly in containers or bags.
If you require any assistance please do not hesitate to ask!
We would like to start our Care Center Family Council again. This is a perfect way
to voice concerns and to make suggestions to improve care. Please see me or
social services if interested.
Team members, we are welcoming any ideas on making MVSL a better place to
work. Please see the CEO, your administrator or your DON to make suggestions. If
you would rather remain anonymous just slip a note under our doors.
Residents are always welcome to drop by my office with any ideas they may have.
Remember it takes a village!

LIFE ENRICHMENT TEAM
Greetings Residents, families, and friends!
Happy Spring! Spring is my favorite season of the year. I can’t wait to see the beautiful spring
flowers bloom in the flower gardens and on the trees. With the temperature changing in
April, I think it’s the perfect month to go outside and enjoy the sunshine. Vitamin D is so
good for us and that’s why I’ve planned a few more outside activities on the patio this
month!
We’ve made a few changes to the calendar, so make sure you check the times for all of our
fun activities; Fancy Nails will be on Wednesdays, and rotate each week between 10:30am
and 2:30pm. Bingo will be every Tuesday morning at 10:30am, and every Thursday afternoon
at 2:30pm. We will continue to pass out a daily activities reminder, so that you can stay up to
date on what’s happening.
This month in the spirit of Easter we are going to have an Easter coloring contest, make egg
carton flowers and crafts, and dye easter eggs on the patio. On the 22nd we are going to have
an Easter egg hunt at 10:15am, our Easter party and Easter Church Service will be at 2:30.
Our Memorial Service honoring the residents we’ve lost from February to April will be on
April 27th at 2:30pm. We would love to hear about your favorite memories and stories about
our loved ones.
I want to say a big thank you to Kelly Montgomery for working so hard in helping me with
Activities. She’s doing such a wonderful job and I’m very thankful for her positive attitude
towards change. I also want to say a big thank you to Chef Robert Magdaleno with our
Culinary Partner, Forefront for always being willing to help us with our party appetizers.
We appreciate you!
Happy Easter Everybody!

CAMPUS EDUCATION DIRECTOR
Hello all!
April brings a season of rebirth. Trees get new leaves, flowers bloom, tempera-
tures rise, and the natural cycle begins again. What a great month! To top it off,
this year the holiday of Easter lands in April. It seems so fitting that we will cele-
brate the Resurrection of our Savior during this month of new beginnings. I
hope you all have a very happy holiday!
The Training Center is in full swing with many opportunities for education. Our
next Dementia Training class begins Thursday, April 7, 2022. We are also hosting
a new Skin Care class. This class will explore the effects of aging on the skin, and
strategies for keeping the skin healthy and free of problems.
MVSL is committed to ensuring all employees have the skill and education
necessary to provide our residents with the best possible care. Through monthly
on-line in-services and in-person training, we try very hard to stay up to date
with any new rules or regulations, as well as new approaches, in providing that
care.

Happy Spring Everyone!
Interesting facts regarding this season: The spring and fall equinoxes are the only
two times in the entire year that the sun rises in the exact eastern point and sets
at the exact western point. In the North Pole, when spring starts so does six
months of daylight with no darkness. In the South Pole the complete opposite
happens and when spring starts, so does six months of darkness with no visible
sun.
I am thankful to be living in The Natural State during this season where we get
sunshine in between the spring showers. This month holds one of my favorite
holidays, as I always look forward to spending Easter Sunday with family and my
hometown church. I now have two beautiful nieces who will get to participate in
an Easter egg hunt, although one of them may do less hunting and more playing
since she just turned 10 months old!
We are excited to see the residents outside, enjoying the nice weather, and
participating in the new garden project ForeFront and MVSL are planting. We are
already seeing strawberries and can’t wait to see the rest thrive.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did
not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this,
suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In
their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men
said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he
has risen! Luke 24:2-6.FROM THE DESK OF OUR AL/ASCU

Spring is in the Air!
It’s such an exciting time of year and I love the energy spring provides! New
flowers and life everywhere.
We have planted our own seedlings and I’m looking forward to all the gardening
we will be doing! Our wonderful Sous Chef, Robert and Forefront provided our
residents with various fruits, vegetables, and herbs to plant, and we can’t wait to
enjoy the fruits of our labor!
National day of caring is this month. We have so many great volunteers and will
enjoy planting with members of the community!

Planting w/ VolunteersA lookback at March
April is Occupational Therapy Month!
To celebrate, here is a little information from AOTA about OT.
What is Occupational Therapy?
Your life is made up of occupations—meaningful everyday activities. These occupations can include
many roles, such as being a parent, a grandparent, an employee, a business owner, a golfer, an
artist, a cook, or a friend. We generally don’t think about our daily occupations until we have
trouble doing them. Everyone has occupations—from the grandparent who enjoys taking care of
grandchildren during the day, to the adult volunteer, to the caregiver who helps a spouse remain
independent. If you have a medical condition, your health status changes, or you are recovering
from an accident or injury, your valued occupations may be disrupted or limited. Occupational
therapy focuses on your valued occupations and integrates them into the prevention, wellness, and
rehabilitation processes. The goal of occupational therapy is to help you do what you need and want
to do in every day life.
Where Can I Get Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy practitioners work in a variety of settings—including hospitals, clinics, skilled
nursing facilities, community centers, and health care facilities, and they can even come to your
home.
Who Are Occupational Therapy Practitioners?
Occupational therapy practitioners are either occupational therapists or occupational therapy
assistants. They are skilled health care professionals who use research and scientific evidence to
ensure that their interventions are effective. With strong knowledge of a person’s psychological,
physical, emotional, cognitive, and social makeup, occupational therapy practitioners can evaluate
how your condition is affecting your ability to participate in life and provide ways to overcome any
barriers, using a holistic perspective.
Why Would I Need Occupational Therapy?
The aging process, accidents, illness, injury, or disease can change our ability to participate in daily
activities, but occupational therapy can help you stay active and live well despite limitations. For
example, during recovery from a joint replacement you may need new ways to dress, bathe, and
prepare meals. Pain from arthritis and other conditions can make it difficult to drive safely, walk
through a grocery store, or maintain favorite hobbies. Occupational therapy looks at you, your
environment, your needs, and your social supports to create an approach that will help you live life
to its fullest.
