State of Shine
6 March - 12 June 2021
When we think of Queensland, we think
warm weather, beaches and blue skies.
But as we know, Queensland is much,
much more. It is a place of contrasts and
extremes, and a state of mind.
The Jewellers and Metalsmiths Group
of Australia (Queensland Chapter) have
set out to capture what it means to work
and live in the Sunshine State. Drawing
inspiration from its history, people and
landscape, these artisans capture the
essence of Queensland.

something we all do - and we all do it
differently.

how did people sleep in the past? Why did

the modern comforts we have today?
From sleepwear to chamber pots,
nightcaps to coconut mattresses, discover

and how people might sleep in the future.

Our newest continuing exhibition Going Away captures the beginnings of our beloved
Bribie as a tourist destination, taking its design inspiration from the ‘Twelve Apostles’-
colourful weatherboard holiday huts which once lined the foreshore at Bongaree. The
exhibition tells the stories of holidays spent on Bribie; what people did for fun, where
they stayed and why Bribie was and continues to be a popular holiday spot.
