Thinking About DISAPPOINTMENTS, by Member Karen Stathakis I was thinking about disappointments after Covid hit three family members a few days before Christmas and, suddenly, all our family celebrations were canceled. The disappointment was great – for all of us; however, I didn’t want to stay in a place of disappointment too long. “Dis” is a negative prefix; it means not or none, opposite. I’ve learned over time that it’s not healthy or beneficial to dwell too long on negative thoughts or feelings. I can accept them for what they are, process them, and choose to have a mindset of thinking, speaking and living in a way that is positive, encouraging and beneficial to myself and others. For me, I chose to celebrate Christmas in my apartment by reading about the birth of Jesus in the Bible, watching an online church service, listening to Christmas music and watching a few Christmas movies. I loved watching some old family videos, especially the one acting out the Christmas story when my grandkids were quite young. I enjoyed sharing some time with family on FaceTime. Yes, disappointments happen! I pray as we process them, we will ultimately replace them with life-giving appointments and gratitude for each day we are given. Scriptures: Jeremiah 29:11; Psalm 34:18; Romans 8:28. Songs: The Hope of Christmas; God Will Make a Way. Annual holiday harp concert 15
