GUIDE TO OUR SERVICES AND MERCHANDISE
Cemeteries are where lives are commemorated, deaths are recorded, families
are reunited, memories are made tangible and love is undisguised. The cemetery
is homeland for family memorials that are a sustaining source of comfort to the
living. A cemetery is a history of people; a perpetual record of yesterday and
a sanctuary of peace and quiet today. A cemetery exists because every life is
worth remembering - always.
The Hamilton Municipal Cemeteries offers an everlasting tribute. It is a final
resting place; a place to visit, to reflect, and to cherish memories.
Hamilton Municipal Cemeteries offer several beautiful location options to
suit individual and family preferences. Select one of our 69 Cemeteries
across the Greater Hamilton area to be the final resting place.

Prices in effect January 1, 2021. HST is not included. HST #889323218RT001. Non-Resident
rates require an additional 25% assessment on all property sales. Care and Maintenance Fees are
included in our prices. H.S.T. # 88932528RT001
Care and Maintenance
Care and Maintenance Fees are included in all property purchases. Care and Maintenance Fees for
monuments and markers are additional.
Care and Maintenance Fund: As a requirement under the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act,
2002 and Ontario Regulation 30/11, 40% of the purchase price of all graves and lots, 20% of the
purchase price of all crypts, 15% of the purchase price of all niches is contributed into an irrevocable
trust fund - The Care and Maintenance Fund. Income from the Care and Maintenance Fund is used to
provide general care and maintenance of the Cemetery in perpetuity.
Payment Options
We accept Visa, MasterCard, Debit or cheque. We do not accept cash payments. Finance options are
available for pre-need options (12 and 24 months) interest free. For all at-need purchases, payment is
due in full. Prices are subject to change without notice. Prices listed do not include HST and are those
in effect as of January 1, 2021.
Personalized Burial Packages If burial is your choice or the choice of your loved one, you have many options when you choose Hamilton Municipal Cemeteries. Our caring professional staff will work with you as you select the merchandise and services that are right for you or your loved one. Not all options are available at all cemetery locations. Traditional Burial and Cremation Interment Traditional Burial and Cremation Interment sections: Each grave is suitable for up to four (4) interments in any one of the following combinations: Two (2) Traditional Burials and Two (2) Cremated Remains - or One (1) Traditional Burial and Three (3) Cremated Remains - or Four (4) Cremated Remains Veteran Section – Field of Honour: One person (Veteran) per grave – either traditional burial (with mandatory outer container); or One Cremated Remains. Veterans and their Spouse – Two interments only: either one traditional burial and one cremated remains or two cremated remains.

gardens, outdoor columbarium niches, and ground burial.
All of our Cemeteries offer a place with
special meaning. Families planning their
cremation estates with us have a variety
of options available for the interment of
cremated remains including Cremorials,
Columbarium Niches, Cremation Benches,
Urn Gardens and Private Family Estate
Niches. Cremation is not a disposition, but
rather a method of preparing the remains
for memorialization.

An alternative to cremation scattering and ground burial, people can now have the ashes placed in a convenient location or a place with special meaning, with the cremated ashes of their loved ones placed in a cremation urn protected by a permanent memorial bench. The Natural Burial Section is specifically designed to permit human remains to be returned to the earth, as naturally as possible, while creating and maintaining a natural ecosystem. The area’s habitat and ecosystem will be enhanced over time. The Natural Burial Section at Mount Hamilton Cemetery offers burial, cremation and scattering interment options using eco-friendly alternatives such as biodegradable containers, caskets, shrouds, urns and eco-friendly embalming. A centralized memorialization is used rather than individual monuments or markers. The City of Hamilton is responsible for the ownership and maintenance of over 69
sites,varying in size from large municipal cemeteries to small family burial plots.
Many cemeteries now under the care of Hamilton Municipal Cemeteries receive protection as a
result of the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act 2002 which mandates a municipality to
assume responsibility for any burial site that is not being maintained or is abandoned.
