 District Director’s Notes:

Wow, I can’t believe we are already getting into March, the third month of 2021! It seems
like an eternity since last March when we started hearing about this virus that has changed
our lives. Vaccinations are here for some and coming for others, and the state is opening up
a bit more! Your district team is working hard to plan great activities for you this year. We
want to announce a new activity, the Gem State Ride-In scheduled for July 17, 2021 in
Challis Hot Springs, ID. The fun will be in the ride there and the companionship after you
arrive. You may choose to come early and camp both the 16th and 17th and leave the 18th,
but we will plan to socialize on the 17th and depart on the 18th. See the flyer for details and
reservation information. You won’t need to RSVP if you plan to ride-in and depart all on
the 17th, but we hope you will plan to stay at least one night to meet others in GWRRA.

In addition to our new Idaho Bingo, the district is also planning an Ice Cream Trail Ride.
Details will be out soon as we are still constructing the trail. The trail ride will be open from
April to October, 2021. If you visit at least 4 ice cream locations on the trail, you will earn a
free special commemorative pin (both riders and co-riders who are GWRRA members in
Idaho are eligible). Get your camera, motorcycle and appetite ready!

Don’t forget to get in your reservation for accommodations for the Idaho District Rally –
HOT AUGUST NIGHTS, August 13-15 in Kamiah, ID. See the details in the flyer in this
newsletter and on our district website www.gwrra-id.us
Hope to see you with the sunny side up!

 NOTES FROM DISTRICT
 RIDER EDUCATOR
 District Educator’s Notes
Where did February go? Hopefully your chapter is busy planning
the 2021 ride schedule. The district is busy making plans as well.
We are hosting our first District Ride-in. What is a ride-in? Well,
the fun is the ride to the destination site and the friends you meet
along the way and while you are there. We hope this is one of many
more to come and hope to plan them around the state so every
chapter can take turns with a shorter ride versus a longer ride to the
destination. Our first ride-in will be in Challis Hot Springs, ID on
July 17, 2021. Please see the flyer in the March Newsletter or on the
 website for details and information.
Our second ride-in is our Idaho District Rally. For this event, we
hope you will arrive on August 13 and depart on August 15. The
district committee is making plans for a great time. We will have
some rider education available as well. We do have a Road Captains
course planned and hope you will take advantage of this course
while it is being offered. If you have not taken it, you and your co-
rider will learn a lot of information on group riding. Please be sure
to sign up on you registration form or contact me If you already sent
in you registration but forgot to sign up for the course. The cost is
$5 to pay for the patch you will receive upon completion. The cost
applies to your co-rider as well if they want a patch.
If you have interest in any other rider education classes, please let
me know. I am hoping to get a Medic First Aid or first aid/CPR
 class scheduled soon as well.
 Please ride safe!

 Notes From
 Idaho District Ride Coordinator

Hi, everyone, hope this finds all of you safe and healthy. I’m
looking forward to a fun 2021. Last year was a year of
quarantine, social distancing, and face mask.
This year I hope for some wide-open spaces, proper bike spacing
on the road, and maybe a little less mask time. In addition to the
rides planned by your Chapters, we have a Gem State District
Ride planned for the weekend of 17-18 July at Challis Hot
Springs Campground. I’ll be there the evening of the 16 th for any
who want to come early. I have a camp area reserved, so if you
want to spend the night Friday or Saturday, it will cost you $10,
which includes use of the hot pools, per night. If you’re just
planning on riding in to visit for the day and not use the pools,
there’s no charge. There are no planned rides scheduled, your
ride from home to the Hot Springs and return will be the
adventure. If you plan on staying the night, there’s a fire pit for
us to sit around and swap a tale or two.
August 13th-15th will find us at Kamiah for the 2021 Idaho
District Rally. There will be some organized rides Friday and
Saturday, with a light parade through Kamiah Saturday night.
We’ll have some classes, drawings, auctions, food, and fun. Hope
to see you on the road, ride safe and keep the shiny side up.

 March 2021 Newsletter
 The Counting is All Done
Yes, we are done with 2020 finances and reporting, well almost, as there are a few
things to clean up yet, but for this column, let’s get on to what we joined GWRRA for –
RIDING – and finding riders to ride with, and places to go together.
I’ve started receiving registrations for “Hot August Nights”, the Idaho Rally in Kamiah,
this coming August 13-15. Our District Director, Lori, is trying to find ride leaders for
our time there, and she asked me to consider doing that, too.
That got me to looking at roads to ride, near Kamiah. I’ve been through there, a number
of times, but only riding US Highway 12, which is beautiful in itself, as it follows the
Clearwater River and climbs over Lolo Pass into Montana. This is a spectacular route,
both to ride, and to enjoy scenery.
But there are other equally great roads in the area. I have also ridden Idaho Highway
13, from Grangeville to Kooskia, just upriver from Kamiah on US 12, and this is a fun
ride with major elevation change. But there is also the Nezperce Loop, and the Greer
Grade to Weippe – both of these routes have significant elevation change, too, and you
know that means roads made for motorcycles, and roads with fantastic scenery. You
may also want to consider Idaho Highway 14 to Elk City, which follows the South Fork
of the Clearwater much of the way. The weather in this area is generally good for
 “traveling outdoors” in August.
Send in your application, make your reservations, pack your bags and come to Kamiah!

ID-B is still active and we have seen a few new members to join in the
last couple of months. We welcome the new members and look
forward to getting to know them and them us.

Yes, we have snow and some ice here in the Valley this week so the
bikes are stuck in the garages. We all are looking forward to spring
and some good riding. We have been working on a ride schedule and
will working on completing the district Bingo Card. We would like to
be the first chapter to win one of the prizes.

We have one member talking about going back to Wing Ding this
summer. If anybody else is going back, please get in touch with me so
that I can tell our member. I am sure he would like somebody to ride
 with.

We had our meeting on the 6 of February. We had 11 members
present. Our ACD gave more of his presentation on accidents and
what we need to do when we come up on one. We are looking forward
to his presentations and what we learn from them.

We will keep this short this month. Keep the rubber side down and be
 safe out there.

 GWRRA IDE
 Newsletter March 2021
March is here, and Spring is just around the corner. If you haven’t
done it already, it’s a good time to start looking at your gear. Check the
armor in your jackets. Time isn’t always kind to these and finding out
they’re dried out and falling apart right before a ride can be a little
annoying. Many helmets have removable liners and cheek pads,
pulling them out and cleaning them now means you can start your
riding season with a clean, fresh smelling helmet. Was the oil changed
before your ride was put away for the Winter? Start the season with
fresh oil and fluids as Goldwing's thrive on clean quality fluids and use.
Make sure your electronics are working, cords are in good repair, and
the radios are doing their job. A bit of attention now means you’re
ready when Naurine calls and says she’s ready to go on a ride.
Chapter E held it’s first meeting of 2021, and we had a pretty good
turnout. A big shoutout to Jean Spencer for posting pictures, it’s much
appreciated. Thanks to Naurine Cook and Tom Edwards for another
fine ride schedule. Shoshone Falls should be great, there’s always our
seafood rides, and this year we have a District ride to Challis Hot
Springs and the District Rally in Kamiah.
We look forward to seeing everyone again, stay safe and well.

 Chapter T Information
Like most other chapters in the country, COVID has affected our
attendance and participation. As vaccines are becoming available, we
hope to start seeing more familiar faces as well as new ones at our
gatherings. We did hold our breakfast meeting at Golden Corral on
Saturday, February 13. Since Valentine’s Day was so close to our
monthly gathering, we scheduled a dinner meet at the restaurant on
Sunday, February 21. As always, we enjoyed the fellowship. We did
have visitors from Kentucky, Mike & Lori’s family was in town and
joined us for our dinner gathering. We did have some fun and good
 food.

Our new chapter ride coordinator is busy pulling together our 2021
ride schedule. We can’t wait for warmer weather to start riding. As I
write this article, we sit with inches of snow on the ground here in the
 Nampa/Boise area.

 Enjoy your ride!
