School resumes for students on Monday 1 February 2021.
Our office re-opens on Monday 25 January 2021.
To avoid long waiting times for parents, Bookshop and Uniform shop times are divided into 2
groups, as shown below: This will run from the Administration Office.
Surname A - M Thursday 28 January 9.30am – 2.00pm
Surname N - Z Friday 29 January 9.30am – 2.00pm
The State Government has fixed maximum parent contributions at $235 (see breakdown
page 5) for Lower School students. Contributions cover essential textbook hire, ingredients,
materials, equipment, bus hire and technology use as applicable. Contributions are
requested to be paid before the start of the school year.
Under the Education Act Regulations, all Courses for Senior School (Year 11 & 12) students
are considered to be charges thus compulsory. There is no established maximum charge,
however the school has endeavoured to keep costs to a minimum.
CREDIT CARD and EFTPOS facilities are available. Payments may also be made via Direct
Credit:
Bank: Westpac
BSB: 036 152
Account: 208390
Reference: Student Surname & ID
Schools rely heavily on parents meeting their commitments in respect of these Contributions
and Charges. Our capacity to continue to provide students with a quality Curriculum is
directly affected by your commitment to meeting these costs. Where parents cannot pay the
full amount; and are not eligible for Secondary Assistance Scheme (page 2), they
should see the Manager Corporate Services to organise a payment plan.
Please refer to Page 6 for information regarding possible additional expenses during the year.
Textbooks, equipment and resources covered by course contributions will be loaned during
the year to students as required. If school equipment is lost or damaged by your child, an
invoice for the replacement will be sent home to the parent or guardian.
Youth Allowance
Students eligible to apply for Youth Allowance should contact Centrelink, 52 Wittenoom
Street, (PO Box 327), Bunbury 6231, phone number 132 850 for application forms. The
Telecentre in Harvey is a Centrelink agent and can be used for free calls to Centrelink.
Assistance is available if required.
1Secondary Assistance Scheme
The Western Australian Department of Education and Training provides an allowance to
assist eligible families with secondary schooling costs.
The allowance consists of two components:
$235 Educational Program Allowance paid directly to the school.
$115 Clothing Allowance paid directly to the parent/guardian or the school.
Eligibility Criteria
Parent or Guardian must hold one of the following cards:
Centrelink Family Health Care Card (Parent/Guardian using family card only)
Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card (Student’s name must be on the card)
Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card (blue card only)
Card held must be current some time in first term (3 February– 9 April 2020). The only
exception to this is when a student holds his/her own Health Care Card and has been
declared independent by Centrelink. In this instance, a letter of confirmation from
Centrelink needs to accompany the application.
Students are eligible to apply for Secondary Assistance up to and including the year they
turn 18 years of age i.e. not eligible to claim if born in 2001 or earlier.
ABSTUDY
Parent/students in receipt of ABSTUDY through Centrelink are not eligible for this
allowance. However, parents in receipt of Abstudy are eligible for an additional allowance
of $79. To claim this allowance, parents need to fill out an application form through the
School Office. Abstudy payments are made to the parent/student for schooling expenses
such as clothing, textbooks, etc for the same purpose as the Secondary Assistance
Scheme.
Applications close on 1 April 2021
Processing of Payments
Once the form is completed by the parent/guardian, the school will forward it to the
Schools Resourcing and Budgeting Directorate for processing.
Education Program Allowance
Schools will receive the Education Program Allowance of $235 for Secondary Assistance
recipients. This amount is paid directly to the school to reduce the contributions
payable by the Parent/Guardian in Years 7-10 and the course charges in Years 11&12.
Clothing Allowance
The Clothing Allowance of $115 will be paid to the parent/guardian unless you indicate on
the application form that you wish it to be paid to the school. The Department of
Education will not be making payments to parents by cheque. Bank account details must
be provided. Please ensure you bring your bank details in with you.
2General Information on Contributions and Charges
The following Voluntary Approved Requests and Other Optional Charges are a ‘per
student’ cost which will appear on student’s Contribution and Charges statements.
Chaplaincy
The school is privileged to have a Chaplain as part of its pastoral care team five days a
fortnight. The Chaplain acts as an advocate for students and liaises with parents, staff
and external agencies to support positive outcomes for students. As the Chaplain is not a
teacher, some students may feel more comfortable in approaching the Chaplain when
they need someone to talk to.
It is not Department of Education policy to pay the salaries of Chaplains. The school
contributes to the cost, along with funds raised through parent donations. We would be
grateful if you could donate $10 or any amount you think appropriate to the Chaplaincy
Fund as this will assist in maintaining this valuable service.
P&C Donation
The P&C is a committee made up of parents run on a voluntary basis who help the school
by fundraising much needed funds to purchase items not outlined in the School’s Budget
requirements. A donation of $5 or any amount you think appropriate would be
appreciated.
Library Charge
This $20 optional extra charge is to assist with keeping up to date software, games,
books, magazines and other resources for students to use and refer to.
Printing Charges
The $20 optional extra charge will provide an allowance for student computer printing up
to 200 copies. Non-payment will result in students being unable to print. (A smaller
amount can be paid and topped up during the year). Students with credit remaining in
2020 will have it transferred across to 2021.
Stirling Magazine Year Book
The cost of the school magazine is $20. You will be asked if you would like to order one
at the time you pay your child’s Contributions and Charges. The magazine is printed and
distributed at the end of each year and contains photos and events from the current year.

CERTIFICATE COURSES – EXTERNAL PROVIDER AND RTO
Students receive advice of acceptance into Certificate Courses before the end of the previous
year. Some of these Certificate Courses attract a high cost, compulsory enrolment charge.
Parents should refer to the enrolment documentation provided by the Recognised Training
Authority (RTO) for these charges, which will be invoiced by the school.
To secure a student’s enrolment in these courses, parents are requested to begin making $500 to
payments toward these courses from December of the previous year. $6000
On 31 March of the following year, payment history will be reviewed at which time, those parents
who are identified as making regular payments, will be rewarded with a subsidy of 50% of the
certificate course cost up to a maximum of $1000, paid by Harvey Senior High School.
