| PRESIDENT’S LETTER

                 Dear Member,

UMMER IS UPON US and we can’t wait until you see what we have in store for you!
In addition to our annual summer holiday celebrations along with our golf and tennis
events, we have a lot more coming your way! We’re keeping the fun going—all year
long! Trivia Nights, Bingo (yes, Bingo!), Dueling Pianos, Lectures, a dinner show or two and
an afternoon with Medium Jeffrey Wands. Stay tuned, as we find opportunities to add more
new events and activities throughout the summer months, we will share the news.

                 As our tradition continues we hope you’ll join us in Grand Central for the first two horse races;
The Kentucky Derby on May 4, The Preakness on May 18 and then in Onyx Lounge
for The Belmont Stakes on June 8. Stop by to watch the race while enjoying specially
                 priced cocktails.

I look forward to seeing all of you Moms at the Mother’s Day Champagne Brunch on Sunday, May 12 in
Panache where we will be pampering each and every one of you. Reservations are still available by calling
483-6300. Chef Roger has a special menu planned— one you’ll not want to miss. However, whether you
spend it here or elsewhere, I hope you enjoy your special day surrounded by family and friends.

Our summer guest policies in the golf, tennis, fitness and aquatics departments go into full swing this
month! For complete details, please check the Club’s website, contact the individual department or speak
with a staff member in the Membership department and they will be happy to review them with you.

On a final note, a big CONGRATULATIONS to our Director of Tennis, John Joyce, who was recently named
the 2019 Sportsman of the Year for the Palm Beach County Grand Slam Tennis League. Please join me in
giving John a huge pat on the back the next time you see him. He continues to do a fantastic job at the Club
as well as for the local community.

I receive complimentary letters from members quite often but one recent letter really stood out and has stuck
with me. It was about our staff. How great the staff is, especially toward his wife who recently injured herself.
The employees go out of their way to assist her with whatever she may need while having difficulties getting
around; that has given he and his wife such comfort during a somewhat trying time. It’s wonderful to hear
that the staff is always so accommodating and this letter reminded me that our most important amenity is our
STAFF. How they make you feel while you’re here at the Club. It’s not always about what I/we say or what
I/we do—for the membership – it’s all about how we make YOU the member feel because that “feeling”
is everything!

I welcome and encourage your thoughts, comments and suggestions regarding your Club and look forward
to seeing you around!

Sincerely,

Matthew Linderman, CCM
President, COO & General Manager

PICKLEBALL WAS INVENTED IN 1965
ON BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, A SHORT FERRY
RIDE FROM SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
Three dads-Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum-
whose kids were bored with their usual summertime
activities-are credited for creating the game. In 2015,
pickleball was recognized by the Sports & Fitness Industry
Association (SFIA) as the fastest growing sport in the U.S.
There are two accounts as to how the name evolved.
According to Joel Pritchard’s wife (Joan), she started calling
the game pickleball because “the combination of different
sports reminded me of the pickle boat crew where oarsman

off with it. Others claim both accounts may actually be true. team scores points, until they lose the serve.
As the game progressed an official name was needed,
and “pickleball” was it. According to reports, an estimated 2.5 million

                      vs Pam
                      SATURDAY, MARCH 16
                      Boca West members were
                      treated to some exceptional
                      golf on Saturday afternoon from
                      Boca West’s own Nanna Koerstz
                      Madsen, LPGA tour player and
                      Pam Elders, Director of
                      Instruction. With over 100 golf
                      carts following, Nanna and Pam
showed the gallery just how good
                      they are. Pam admittedly nervous
didn’t show it as she matched
                      Nanna shot for shot. Pam
confidently rolled in a birdie putt
on the last hole to shoot 33 (3
                      under par.) Nanna gave the
                      members a sampling of her
                      abilities with impressive long
                      drives and exceptional touch
                      around the greens. Nanna excited
the gallery with an eagle on the
final hole to also shot 33 (3 under
par.) Nanna hit driver and hybrid
to within 15 feet on the 18th hole
of Palmer I before calming rolling
the eagle putt into the center of
the hole. Nanna’s game is ready
to take on the best on the LPGA
                      tour and commented that she
                      really enjoyed the 9 hole
exhibition as it felt like an LPGA
                      tournament crowd.
