Home learning guidance
     Year 7 and 8
Bluecoat Aspley Academy
Year 7 and 8 are expected to follow their normal timetable as closely as they can. It is important that
every day they include some exercise and time to relax. Below are some generally helpful websites that
will help with all subjects.
As pupils follow their timetable they can look at the section in this booklet from that subject and follow
what they are being guided to do by their teachers. It is also indicated what would be expected to be
learnt within that half term to help you know what should be covered in normal circumstances. For
some subjects work has been set on Go4schools e.g booklets, projects etc and some subjects have
google classrooms where they are setting regular work. For other subjects they have given ideas for
projects, reading, things to make and watch with links to helpful websites. Please select what best suits
you.

There will be weekly enrichment projects sent out as well. These can be used to help enrich pupils
learning if they would like to engage with them. Please send in evidence of completing the projects to
heads of year (no photos of names of pupils included on the picture) as they will be looking for pupils
that have engaged the most with their learning and rewarding this engagement while at home.

General Websites to support

content under the courses tab to see all the subjects that are available. Some subjects have classrooms
set up and teachers will set work and monitor. But pupils can also login and study any topic that they are
interested in.

These websites contain lots of information and you might also want to carry out your own research
project on a key event, King or Queen or what life was like during these periods. Focus on the 5 Ws as a
focus for your research: Who, What, Why, Where, When?

Try creating something:
   • Build a model of a castle or historic building and research why it was so important. Make it from
mud, play dough, card board or draw a plan.
   • Make a heraldic shield: research heraldic symbols, their design and their hidden messages.
   • Build a Medieval town. Retrieve your knowledge on medieval towns or use your revision guide.
Design your own town or a scene from a town in an old shoe box.
   • Design your own first letter of a medieval book. This was called an illuminated letter - letters
with an image linked to the content of the book.
   • Create your own doom painting. How big can you make it? Maybe you could draw it with chalk
       on the pavement?
   • Draw the scene of a day in the life of a peasant.

   • Your own VE day bunting.
• Create your own Evacuee Scrap book in which you imagine you are an evacuee. How would you
feel? How has your life changed? What’s the difference between living I the countryside to an
inner city? Draw and write about the experiences of these children.
Try reading historical fiction:
Try reading a historical novel which will improve your knowledge and understanding on life in the past.
Can you use your knowledge to work out what is historically inaccurate? Research this to check you are
correct. Here are some suggestions – some of these books may be available for free on Kindle (you can
download the app for free onto your smartphone):

                                                   Art
Art is a great way to relax. Painting, drawing, colouring, making models, take photographs etc.
During Summer 1&2 the year 7 students should be working on a wire sculpture project, where they
research the work of Tom Hill (wire artist who creates animal based sculptures). The students would
create drawings of fish and then translate them into wire.

The year 8 students work on a cultural patterns project, where they focus on Adinkra symbols and
African repeat pattern designs. This is a very practical project where the students use wax resist and
polystyrene printing techniques.

Unfortunately neither of these projects are very accessible at home, as they require specialist materials.
But pupils could research the artists mentioned above to continue with that learning.

Please find the home learning power point from Art attached this is the work that has been sent home
with year 7 & 8 students. There is a wide range of drawing based tasks and themes with the hope that
students would continue to develop their observational skills over the coming weeks. There are also
some artist inspired tasks and an analysis sheet to engage them.
