A Message From Our Pastor, Father Patrick
GOSPEL REFLECTION ~ Jn 12:20-33
Fifth Sunday of Lent
I hope everyone is having a very prayerful, reflective and joyful Lent! It is
hard to believe that another Lenten season is quickly slipping away from us. It was not that
long ago that we began our Lenten journey together that introduced to us the three
spiritual disciplines of Lent: prayer, fasting and alms-giving! Hopefully, these three
disciplines have led us closer to the Lord! If not, there is still time left for us to change our
ways. There is still time left for us to seek greater conversion of heart.
Today we are beginning the Fifth Week of Lent, with Easter just two weeks
away! Th is m eans th at w e h ave ju st one w eek and a h alf to go befor e w e enter
a new Holy Triduum on Holy Thursday which leads us right into the Easter Mysteries and
Easter Celebration! We have exactly two more weeks to take this season of Lent more seriously if we have not done so
yet! There is still more time for us to prepare our hearts and souls in celebrating the greatest mystery of all time, one
that changed the course of history, the Resurrection of Jesus Christ! There is still more time for us to be drawn closer
to the Lord, who alone is the fulfillment of all of our hopes and longings!
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds the world that His Hour is up to glorify God’s name once and for
all. He is m aking it clear th at th e Hou r h as com e to take u p th e cr oss for th e sake of h u m anity, to be
lifted up on the cross for the world’s redemption. When we see Christ crucified on the Cross, we are reminded of the
depth of evil we humans are capable of, and the heights of love for which we are called. It is clear in today’s Gospel
that our Lord is faithful to God and to the Great Hour for which He was called. All the events and miracles that
occurred in John’s Gospel, beginning at the Feast of Cana, leads up to this Historic Hour.
Each Lent we are reminded that we have been called to glorify God. Each tim e w e r ecite the Lor d’s
prayer, we promise God that we will glorify His name. “Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name!” As
disciples of the Lord, we share in this Great Mission in honoring God in our thoughts, words and actions. We are
called to be children of the light. Lent drags us out of darkness and into the light; into the Easter Mysteries! Each
Lent we are reminded that we are all part of this Historic Hour that brought us and the entire world salvation! It is
clear from the scriptures that we are called to continue the work of redemption by showing the world the love that we
have received from God! There is no question that Jesus knew His purpose in this world. The question for us,
however, is do we understand our purpose and connection with Jesus and our role within the Mystery of Salvation?
This is our hour, our time and our moment, to join the Lord in glorifying God in all truth, wonder and understanding!
How are we doing?
PARISH UPDATE
I would like to thank everyone for your patience and understanding while the church is closed for
sanctuary renovations! I am h oping th at th e w or k being done in th e ch u r ch w ill be com pleted du r ing
Easter week so we can rededicate the newly renovated floor and installed altar rails. So far, I am happy with the
progress being done in the church. Before we open it up again, it is important that the work in the church be finished
completely, done correctly and cleaned properly. I am hoping that on Friday April 9th, during the Easter Octave, I can
bless the newly renovated sanctuary along with my brother priests at the 9 AM mass. Please stay tuned for further
updates during the next couple of weeks.
Finally, I am excited to inform you that we will be getting another seminarian for the upcoming
summer months! Seminarian Stephen Rooney, fr om St. Joseph’s Church, Garden City, will be in residence
with us from May 18th - July 25th. Stephen is going into his last year of studies next fall. With God’s blessings, He will
be ordained to the priesthood in June of 2022. Stephen is good friends with Deacons Joe and Dominik, and
Seminarian Jonathan. We are so blessed at Infant Jesus to be part of the priestly formation of incredibly special men
who will be of great service in our diocese in the years to come. Before Stephen officially arrives on May 18th, he will
be speaking at several of the masses on Good Shepherd Sunday (April 24-25th), promoting vocations to the
priesthood. Stephen will also write a column in the Mother’s Day weekend bulletin. Please continue to pray for these
men as they journey towards the Altar of God. Please continue to pray for Deacon Dominik and Deacon Joseph, who
will be ordained to the Priesthood this June. And because of the current restrictions at mass and with dispensations
still in effect, Deacon Dominik and I agreed that he will return to celebrate a special Mass of Thanksgiving at the end
of September! More details to follow in the upcoming months!Page 4 March 21, 2021

Garden of the Sacred Heart of Christ
Brick Engraving Offering Available Again
The Knights of Columbus Joan of Arc Council 1992 is once again opening the Garden of the
Sacred Heart of Christ to those who wish to place an engraved brick in the garden patio. We
thank all those who donated in the past and who helped restore the century old Statue of the Sa-
cred Heart of Christ to make this garden a prayerful and reverent place. To date, there have
been well over 400 personalized engraved bricks placed in memory of loved ones, prayers to
specific saints and blessings to the Parish. This Spring, you will see new permanent benching
placed on the patio along with seasonal plantings. Please see the Parish website for detailed
information on how you can have an engraved brick placed in the Garden of the Sacred Heart of
Christ. Orders will only be accepted until April 18, 2021. We anticipate all bricks to be installed
by Memorial Day weekend.
Your donation of $125 per engraved brick placed in the garden allows the Knights to upkeep
this garden along with supporting Parish projects, Seminarian vocations, Religious Education
programs, Right to Life programs, and other charities that promote traditional Catholic values.
As an example to our commitment to the Parish, in early summer 2021, Joan of Arc Council will
be replacing the wooden cross in front of the Church due to the wood showing decay.
Thank you for your continued support of this project.
***If you have ordered a brick in the past and have found an error in spelling or an omission, please let
us know by contacting the Joan of Arc Council at Kofc.JoanofArc1992@hotmail.com. Someone will
contact you to make the necessary corrections.***Page 6 March 21, 2021
Giving, Not Giving Up, It's a Lenten Thing!
Lent is o en thought of as a me of sacrifice. It is a me to "give up" things such as candy, bad habits, and today, maybe even the
internet. These challenges help us prepare for larger sacrifices in life. But Lent does not have to be a me of "giving up." Rather,
we can make it a me to "give" and add something posi ve to our daily lives.
When it comes to almsgiving or helping the poor, the Church makes it easy for us. We at Infant Jesus are asked to contribute
alms-gi s through our Giving, Not Giving Up Program.
During the five Sundays of Lent, everyone is encouraged to bring their alms-gi s before Sunday Masses and placed in the area
designated by the Knights of Columbus. This act of generosity is a tangible sign of our Lenten efforts to feed the hungry and
clothe the naked.
The Knights of Columbus will be assis ng the Parish Outreach this Lent for this program.

“Lent is a favorable season for opening the doors to all those in need and recognizing in
them the face of Christ. Each of us meets people like this every day.”
Pope Francis
Dear Friends:
During the special Lenten season, please allow me to share a special request with you. If you
have never contributed to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, or if you haven’t contributed in a number
of years, please consider making this the year that you join with me and other members of our
Parish family to make a donation to the 2021 Appeal.
As you may already be aware, 100% of all the money raised is restricted to support the objectives,
programs, and mission that serves more than 600,000 people each year, and our parish shares in
the money raised to use for our own local needs.
These programs include services to people in need; affordable housing for senior citizens; people
with disabilities and our veterans; respect life initiatives; and formation of our priests, deacons, lay
leaders, and young people. These are just a few of the programs that help make our church and
this Island a vibrant and wonderful place to live.
But to help ensure that we can always serve those who come to us for aid, support and spiritual
guidance, we need help from you!
If 100 of our parishioners who have not supported us in the recent past made a $25 contribution
this year – think about how many more people we could help! If that amount is more than you can
manage, consider $5 or $10.
Every gift counts and makes a difference in the lives of others! THANK YOU!!
Pledging just got easier!

HOPE HOUSE MINISTRIES
Our Mission
The Mission of Hope House Ministries is founded in the spirit of St. Louis de Montfort,
who had a commitment to the poor and the courage to do what no one else had the
courage to do.
Hope House Ministries provides compassionate, comprehensive and competent care for
the poor, the marginal and the wounded among us. This commitment is woven in the
Gospel vision that all life is sacred and every human person is unique and has the right to
be respected and protected. Specifically, we are committed to young people and families
in crisis, pregnant women and mothers and babies in crisis and all other wounded people
within our society, who are seen as abandoned and neglected. Thus, we seek to be men
and women of hope in a world of shattered dreams.Page 12 March 21, 2021
